The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Name of those panels mate? Can't think they'd be cheap lol.

The autopilot panel in front of the large screen is this one:

In the little red bubble-wrap bag is one of these modules for tuning the comm and nav radios, I need to fabricate something to mount it to the side console.

Rudder pedals are MFG Crosswind's

There is also a Buttkicker Gamer 2 mounted underneath the seat

And my Samsung tablet which I use for browsing navigation charts, or using Roccat power grid when I play Elite Dangerous.

Hmm. My GTX 670 died, so I sent it off for RMA. In the meantime I'm using an AMD R9 380, which I figured should be an improvement, but I'm getting less FPS?

Same settings, and I deleted the cfg so it would generate a new one.

Any ideas?

Nvidia cards have always had better performance with the FSX line of flight sims; general consensus is that the poorer AMD performance is driver related.

If you look on the tech support pages at Avsim you will see that Nvidia is recommended over AMD pretty much 100% of the time.

you could also try deleting the shaders.

Yeah, I knew that was the case but didn't think it would be this bad! I've managed to get it to a similar FPS with some tweaking (lower AA/AF settings than before) but it's still not as smooth.

Ah well, hopefully MSI won't take long in replacing my dead 670 with a newer NVIDIA card, I'll get this sent back.

It's a bit quiet on here these days I guess more and more are moving over to P3D. well because of all I've got invested in FSX I'm staying where I am for the foreseeable future. However I have upgraded to win 10 and I've got FSX+acceleration on and running but I'm now looking for advice on the best order to do the rest.

FSX and all the below will be installed on an SSD separate from the OS which is on it's own SSD

Thanks in advance and here’s the list

FTX Global Base
FTX Global Vector
FTX Open Landclass
Various Airports from UK2000 and ORBX
Pilots FSX Global MESH
Active Sky Next
Radar Contact v4.3
GSX
Rex Essentials plus OD
Various 3rd Party Aircraft PMDG/Aerosoft/Majestic/Real Air/A2A
FS2CREW for all of the above
Ultimate Traffic 2
DX10 Fixer
FSUIPC
EZDOC

Regards
Brian

I still use FSX and you've got a good list of software there Brian.

I also use:

Vatsim with VPilot client software
Scenery Config editor to easily remove scenery you don't need for a fly, therefore freeing up VAS.
Aivlasoft EFB for IFR Flight planning

I use a network setup and offload my maps, weather and comms to a second PC.

I am also learning the ins and outs of XP10. The IXEG 737 is lovely and the third party scenery is getting there. My big gripe so far is not being able to 'undock' panels to drag to my other monitor; so I'm not using it for Vatsim at the moment.

And awesome stuff ghutchison14078.

Thanks !Bluetonic!, I've also got EFB and and scenery config but only one monitor. I did have ASN and EFB on my laptop but kept getting problems with ASN dropping out mid flight so I gave up on that. Do you recommend installing the scenery in any particular order or do you think it will find it's own level?

Install the landclasses first and then the airports. What ever you install last will end up on the top of the config file, so use Scenery Config Editor and you can easily change the order of scenery.

I'll be showing off my virtual piloting skills (again) at this year's Weston Super Mare Helicopter Museum's "FSC Weston".

23rd - 24th July 2016

I'll be with the Vatsim/SevernAir team who will be demonstrating all sides of Vatsim.

I have a dual headphone/mic setup for those that want to fly on Vatsim with my virtual (and actual) hand holding if needed.

The helicopter museum is fantastic and well worth a visit. They'll be lots of like minded geeks in the same area and a drone show too.

Normally, PC Pilot, the Virtual Red Arrows, IVAO, Mutley's Hanger, RAFSim are all in attendance. Keep an eye on the website for news.

[PS I have no affiliation or relation with the museum or the event organising team.]

Over my home county... Devon using Horizon GenX woth P3D3.3.5. RevolutionX Autogen, PTA shader mod and REX.

Looks great redline.

I've been playing with my new 1070.

Using Rex Textures Direct w/Soft Clouds, I've bumped up all textures to 4096 where applicable.

It's not the answer to everything and some settings have to give, but we're all good.

And I hate saying it, but XP10 looks awesome with the new card.

I also purchased FSX Frankfurt V2.0 with the discount from upgrading from the previous version. This looks lovely. Screenshots soon.

I did a flight from there to Gatwick and will repeat and tweak until I'm happy having spent that money on that card.

There's a few lines that need smoothing gfx wise after the change of GPU, but here's a few:

Departing Frankfurt V2.0:

Thank you BrianT :)

And now I've sorted out the anti aliasing on the new card; it's a case of getting the NVidia control panel to 'force settings' in the application(FSX) and then un-ticking the anti-aliasing in FSX.

Well the upgrade to windows 10 wasn't as plain sailing as I would have hoped nothing to do with windows 10 but more a problem with a failing motherboard that 'd had my suspicions about for sometime. So....
I now have a much thinner wallet but I do have a i7 6700k and a GigaByte GA-Z170X-UD3, as well as 32gb of DDR4. so currently grounded or "gone technical" I believe is common parlance. but looking forward to getting it all built and up in the sky

Has anyone else's FSX:Steam gone boobies-up in the last few days? I'm running Win10 and up until the other day, I've had no issues. But it seems FSUIPC is causing some issues and it crashes the game after about 5 seconds. At first it was a little weird where Shift+E wouldn't open the doors, and I could change the standby COM/NAV frequencies but not switch them to active, both in default and add-on aircraft. Now it just crashes after 5 seconds. (And it's not recording any errors in the event log).

I did a complete re-install of FSX and it seemed better until I reinstalled FSUIPC and it started crashing again. So I updated to the latest FSUIPC from the site last night but it's still happening. I'm wondering if it's a Windows update or another issue but only FSX seems affected so far.
