The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Got to say I'm very tempted by Prepar3d, even at the pricier Pro version. Is there any reason you went for that on vs the academic, out of interest?

I produce lots of videos and content using Prepar3D for the virtual airline I fly with, so I didn't want to risk any potential EULA breaches.

The vast majority of people just get the $60 Academic license; it's identical in every way to the Professional one expect for a tiny "Academic Version" watermark in the top right corner of the sim.

Please bear in mind that my screenshots above contain almost exclusively 3rd party add-on content; Prepar3D will not look like that out of the box. The only default elements shown in my screenshots above are the sky textures (not the clouds) and the water texture, everything else is payware add-on content.

Ahh makes sense...

I was watching Froogle's p3d vid on youtube where he had a straight out of the box just downloaded version, and it looked very tasty as was.

Thanks for the reply.

Few more pics from P3Dv3.1

Ryanair 737-800 out of Edinburgh. Had to return to Edinburgh shortly after take-off due to left pack failure.

What addons are you running bud?

I'm currently running ORBX Global, Vector and OpenLC, along with the UK sceneries, My Traffic 6, Majestic Q400, Aerosoft Airbus Bundle, Aerosoft Twin Otter

I use many of the same addons.

I tend to fly mostly IFR commercial flights with the PMDG NGX and Majestic Q400 in Europe; for that I use FTX Global, OpenLC and Vector, with FreeMeshX. Along with pretty much every European airport currently on the market that works with P3Dv3. (UK2000, Aerosoft, Taxi2Gate, FlyTampa, RFScenerybuilding etc etc)

And I fly VFR around the Caribbean region when I fancy low, slow and nice scenic flights.

For that I currently use either the A2A C182 or the RealAir Turbine Duke.

I use REX Soft Clouds with P3D default sky textures.

Hardware wise, I have an Obutto R3volution cockpit with my 40" 4K screen and TrackIR. Thrustmaster Warthog flight stick, Elite King Air throttle quadrant, MFG Crosswind pedals, Virtual Avionics 737 MCP and JetMax NAVComm1 unit for the radios.

And a Buttkicker attached underneath the Obutto seat, excellent for takeoff rumble!

So i know in theory that Nvidia are the cards of choice for FSX, but I'm looking at moving over to Prepar3d in the near future and was wondering how the AMD cards held up, or if Nvidia is still the preference?

Out of the loop

Hi guys,

I used to be into FSX in a big way years and years ago. I was having a look as some of the great shots on this thread to see it has appeared to progress significantly. Then I looked into this P3D thing that I had absolutely no idea about. This all looks great and is making me want to get back into it.

I know this may have been asked before but a quick reply would suffice.
What would a good starting point involve to get back in? I have a old boxed version of FSX and a few addons FSX Global. Would I be best going over to this P3D.

I used to fly mostly medium haul, would like decent traffic / atc as that was always quite ropey in FSX. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

I have a 2500K @ 4.6ghz, 980ti

Do all add ons like PMDG, active sky, orbx and more work with steam edition or am I better off picking up a standalone copy? My current standalone copy has got scratched :(

I have the PMDG 737. Should I go Active sky or rex for weather. I think rex is the only one with textures though isn't it.

Also, whats the best way to get good global coverage but really concentrate around the England/Europe area for accuracy and realism?

Yea, pretty much all good add-ons are updated for FSX Steam, so just go with that.

ASN recommended for weather, as you'll get proper weather radar in suitable products (PMDG, Majestic etc)

Really enjoying the Sim Skunk Works Tornado PA-200. Can't beat bombing around the British Isles with terrain following set to 200ft :D

Will definitely be getting the advanced version in a couple of months that adds functionality of the backseater.
