The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I'm not famliar with Flight sims at all but love the look of them, are they difficult to get to grips with, do you need all the joysticks and stuff and once you have the game do you have to buy the planes to fly them like an add-on, is all very expensive as it seems?

Honestly guys it is the best thing I've ever seen for flight sim. I did a sim ride in the real 737s at Heathrow and never since then have I experienced anything as realistic!

PMDG 737NGX addon for Flight Simulator X

Hi fellow simmers,

I'm starting this thread for all the flight simmers who may purchase this new addon which was released earlier today. PMDG got hit by a DDoS attack just after release so everything was delayed badly.

Below are some initial screenshots which I took earlier. I haven't even programmed up the FMC yet or changed any of the various 'customer' options but she really is a beauty.

There are so many cool things that I like about it but we will leave that for now. I am more than willing to help anyone else out with this addon as I have been following it all pretty closely.

For general flight sim stuff please see the main FSX thread:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18172358

My post from that thread:
-------------------------
This thing is a must buy. She is so smooth, so easy on FPS, modelled so well, handles so well. It's a dream.

When flying at night you see all the amazing lighting. You can see the strobe flashes from the flightdeck and the light reflections are just stunning. I'm in love!

More to follow except I have to go out tonight. Just typical when you get a new toy!

I love this one - you can even set the runway conditions in the takeoff ref pages.

Its on my list :D Back end of next week or I won't get some work Done!

The iFly one was pretty good and from what I've seen so far this does the usual PMDG thing and blows the competition away :D

I've bought pretty much all of PMDG's stuff over the years so I wont be changing the habit :D

When PMDG releases a new plane, you can be guaranteed that any other addon of the same plane will be gone within a short amount of time. :p

That probably explains why the rumours suggest that iFly are to blame for the DDoS attack!

I haven't bought any PMDG stuff since the 747-400 although it wasn't really all that good. It was a real resource hog but at least there was good functionality.

This one though is just special. You can even look in the passenger windows and see through to the other side. They aren't just painted on!

I had a quick play earlier on the ground with all the lighting and that kept me amused for a good ten minutes. All the panels light up beautiful along with the backlighting on the display units.

There are tons of configurable options for preferences which you set through the CDU. In previous addons all these things were accessed through a menu but now you can request ground power, change panel preferences, open doors all through the CDU without a reload. Awesome.

I had a quick test flight without any FMC settings entered about from some basic takeoff reference stuff. Sitting at the end of the runway you can see the strobes flash so realistically - you couldn't believe the difference from the standard aircraft. The sounds as you give it some power are just gorgeous, as are the gear up, flaps, dial rotations and switch clicks.

I haven't looked near the tutorials yet but I think I will print them off and have a browse. I'm fairly confident that I won't need to look up too much for normal ops but I'd like to get a better understanding of what all the systems involve. There is quite a bit of new stuff in the FMC so will need to brush up on that.

All in all first impressions are amazing. Best £40 ever spent on flight sim. I don't think I will ever fly anything else... (well until the Dash 8 and 777 are released by PMDG).

Just stop reading this thread and buy the bird.

lol, NO! not until next week or I wont get stuff done :D

I was sold when I first heard about it.

I've waited 3 years a few days wont hurt :D

Ok so they will but I have stuff I need doing lol.

Sigh. I'll have to wait until I qualify in 2013 before I'll ever be able to afford a decent enough PC for flight simming. I had the PMDG 747-400 and the Level D 767-300ER for FSX, but my old E6600 rig could barely cope with everything on minimum settings. Buying anything else now would be pointless.

You are welcome to start another thread but considering its an addon plane not a complete stand alone sim plus it probably would interest other simmers who might be thinking about this addon, to keep your and other folks experiences with this new 737 addon to this thread, after all, it will provide good background reading for folks who might read this thread months or years from now. But I really don't mind personally.

On the Sale Side of things, I just bought a bunch of things at the Flightstore Pilot shop who are doing a grand Summer Sale. Many good bargains to be had including their entire software/hardware range on FS2004 & FSX. Do browse and choose carefully as many items (all boxed and will be send via mail) are pretty old pieces of software/addons and the level of quality/performance is much higher nowadays with quality addons like PMDG's 737 etc.

I ended up getting Horizon's VFR scenery (had most of them apart from Ireland & Scottish Isles, couldn't see the other volumes on Scotland though, anyone seen them anywhere else?) plus I got JF's Comet & Constellation & 70th Battle of Britain anniversary (these are practically half price compared to JF's website!). All in all I save @£80 :).

Site is here http://www.flightstore.co.uk/

If you are not sure what is or what isn't a bargain, feel free to list here what you are perhaps thinking of buying. IMO all of Horizon & Earth Simulations scenery is a bargain plus Just Flight & PMDG aircraft are a great bargain too.
