How's the flight model on the 737 pmdg ?
I used to be an avid fan of fsx but since spending a lot of time playing Dcs a10 and it's sophisticated flight model now any realism for me in fsx is spoilt for me by the flight models (3rd party included) which dont seem a patch on the a10
Price of many addons now seem fairly overpriced considering something like a10 which is fully modelled aircraft and a full game sim Is <40 quid ?

Does anyone know a good tutorial for using a plane that's got a map screen view in the cockpit? Basically I would like to know how to get a display on it, as of now I'm using the GPS. Also the autopilot in this plane is slaved to the map screen so I can't really fly anywhere in this plane at the moment. Thanks.

Pretty much. I have the aircraft casting shadows on itself but too be honest you don't really miss the ground shadows unless you look for them. Also from 36,000' you cant see any shadows anyway
When your on the takeoff or approach to land your generally too busy to worry about shadows so for me its not a problem.That approach in the fog looked great!

Indeed that was a great approach, Cat III auto land and the Hugs Systems a winner
I can't get enough of the autoland lol! I'm finding it fascinating to watch. Still I can do some difficult ones myself as well. When I post the next batch of pictures you will see a short field and mountainous approach that I had to do the old fashioned way Rex is great, I keep forgetting to change the theme! Probably one of the best scenery addons bar none. I used to use the HiFi simulations active sky stuff but Rex 2.0 HD + Overdrive is amazing. I might play with the texture size and drop from 4096 to 2048 and see if the difference is noticeable and if it gives a performance boost.There's a bit of bitching going on on the PMDG forums on avsim about why autoland etc. But I like to watch the tech work
I'm going to get the Saitek Yoke and throttle quadrant along with the pro combat rudder pedals then I will most likely do a lot more manual landings. the MS Force Feedback 2 Pro is good but its not for airliners

To be fair its a completely different sim from A10 and the objectives are very different. I love DCS A10 and Black Shark. Ones a low level combat sim benefiting from significant advances in technology. The others a general flight simulation catering to many types of flying except combat and is arounf 5 years old. In software development terms that's several generations behind state of the art.
Comparing the two is a little harsh.
Obviously A10 benifts from the new tech and approach to building a game world. FSX on the other hand was released at a item when Multi threaded applications were rare and the GPU's were not too stunning either. Still its not bad and its as good as it gets for just now. Here's hoping that when MS releases MS Flight it will be comparable. The videos are encouraging.
Imagine what people like PMDG could do with Flight if the engines like the DCS one!

What you see is what you get in the game I run FSX at 1920x1200 and the only thing I do is save the files as a .jpg using ms paint to upload to imageshack at 1024x768 as they are too big at 8Mb+in the original .bmp screenshot format.

We're (me and a group of VATSIM mates) are half way through our second would tour.
1st tour took place in 2009/2010, flying a leg every 4 weeks or so. Starting at EGBB and heading east. Took in some picturesque and challenging approaches.
We're currently at FMMI, Madagascar, on our 2011 tour. Started at EGBB and headed north. We crossed the true north pole on the second leg:
Here's my latest screenie, en-route from EKCH to EGGW at FL340. I like how you can see the reflection of the land below at the rear of the fuselage:

The only one I have post here so far has not been photo shopped. I have made a short youtube video of the same island & its just as vibrant I have turned the detail down a little bit as fraps makes it lag a little.
It's one of my 1st youtube videos as I only signed up 2 days ago to show a friend what FSX looks like on my system. So there is zero flying skills to been seen as I only bought FSX a few weeks ago.
