The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Er... doesnt mention he's dead in the article though? Hope theyre ok :(

EDIT:

Daily mail said:
Eyewitnesses describe a dramatic rescue attempt by dog walkers, who jumped into the water and pulled the pilot out. It's not clear whether he managed to eject or not.

But BBC is confirming he's been killed :(

Recently started FSX after a few weeks of not playing and when the game loaded it was in windowed mode, I put it into fullscreen and the screen went black, there's still audio, I then put it back into windowed mode and the visuals came back, any ideas how to fix this?

This is something I encounter now and again, but it doesn't really bother me as I run in windowed mode. But I think it might be to do with something active on a second or third monitor conflicting with FSX, as when you run FSX full screen, it turns the rest of you monitors black.

Better off running in Full screen window mode anyway. Much faster FPS etc. Its a known issue.

I used to think this, then made a startling discovery. I'm a bit OCD with stuff like having a tidy desktop, running small icons on the taskbar, etc, but I recently found out that vista/7 users can kill thier frame rates using small icons in the taskbar due to the start button overlapping the game window. I'd recommend anyone using small icons to switch to normal sized task bar icons. For me, my frames at least doubled. Try it and see how much it kills your system in windowed mode! Now I'm running with normal taskbar icons, the difference between full screen and windowed FPS is minimal.

Full screen window mode? You mean where you can see the window border?

Full screen: You cant see anything but FSX on your monitor, additional monitors turn black.
Windowed mode: You can see the task bar and other stuff on other monitors.

Alt + Enter to cycle between the two.

@Soya - smashin' pics mate, especially love the last AIC one. Looks truly lifelike!

Maybe it's set at the wrong resolution for your screen?

Quick question - is anyone still using the ENB Series light thingy? And if so - which one and where;s the best place to get it (I see GTA 4 versions etc...)

Currently on a Rome to Dubai flight in an A321 - might need to make an emergency stop off for fuel en-route!

Cheers,

Rich

Just a note on Alt-Enter to switch between views - apparently for many users this can cause problems. It is recommended to toggle between fullscreen by selecting the option on the top menu instead.

I used ENBSeries in the past but it caused issues switching between screen modes. Not everyone gets these problems though. It is trial and error really.

Ok well having had a little bit of a detour around the Antipodes, Im back on track and heading to VHHH from RPLL Manila. I've got some sorting out of quite a few pics and will post them during the week assuming you all want to keep seeing them :D. I'm still massively enjoying flying around the world in this aircraft and getting used to her quirks. Ive had a few technical issues with scenery and CTD's from FSX but I've reduced my texture size down to 2048 to see if that helps and so far its looking ok. REX 2.0 with overdrive and addon scenery is a bit of a resource hog! Still seems to be ok now :D I'm going to have some fun flying around the America's shortly so that will be interesting :D

I discovered this little addon :D http://www.juergentreml.de/programming/fsx-google-earth-tracker

In conjunction with Google earth its a cracking piece of software :D Its surprising how accurate FSX is. The position of the aircraft on the runway etc is pretty much exactly matched in google earth:D A fun piece of tech if you have 2 displays :D Would have been good if I'd had it at the start as you can save the routes flown. If I can find out if it saves alt and speed with heading etc that would be cool. Need to read the website and learn lol.

There is an excellent flight planning add on for FSX/FS9 called Plan-G. That also uses Google Earth but it overlays data from FS to show SIDs/STARs, airspace etc. It was written primarily for GA so I'm not sure whether it has all the air corridors on it. Get it for free from tasoftware.co.uk

Some of the airports in FSX are quite far out, although probably less so with the major ones. Kemble is dreadful. These discrepancies are easy to spot with the UK photo scenery installed as you can see the real photo runways away from the ones FSX draws.

Indeed Plan g is very nice but its mainly for VFR flying. Therefore at the moment it does not appear to support Sid's or Star's There's a new planner due from the chap that did TOPCAT. It looks like its will do it all :D

Can anyone spec me a decent twin prop freeware aircraft for FSX? Anything up to ATR42, Saab2000 etc size. Looking for one with a half decent VC, panel, all animated parts and so on. I remember there being quite a popular one a few years back, cant for the life of me remember what it was though. Beechcraft maybe?
