The official Sin episodes thread

Not overly convinced by this as yet, although I haven't been playing it very long. The graphics are distinctly average in places, particularly the indoor sections, and worst of all I'm getting quite a lot of stutter. I'd forgotten how annoying the whole "LOADING" thing from HL2 is, and sometimes it's in stupid places like when there is an enemy right round the corner, so you load up an autosave to find an enemy shooting at you  There's really no excuse for having such small levels, OK so it might help those with under a gig of RAM, but it interrupts the flow of the game too much.

The source engine does do a good job of making fairly dull outdoor environments look quite realistic, but at times it feels like there's a lack of definition, making it hard to spot enemies at a distance and also which doors/entrances etc can be opened. Looks like I might need to start messing around with powerstrip or my driver control panel just like I have to with HL2.

I played this for a bit the other day but it really didn't do it for me (which is a shame because I expected a lot from it). That said, I was pretty hungover...maybe I should give it another go :)

Does the gameplay compare to any other modern FPS games? I mean in terms of 'feel' rather than story/etc.

Can anyone post a couple of screens maybe?

Trying to buy but steam seems to think my card maybe fraudulent. Haha.. Yeh, ok, seeing as im the only one who has ever touched this card!!

Try futzing with the address that you put in, there are some oddities with the way that steam expects the card address to be entered - there are some other threads in here about it.

Agreed.

I finally managed to order something by ignoring the 2nd line completely and just entering my flat and street address in the top line.

I'm quite enjoying it at the mo - headshots are really satisfying and the game gives you stats on how you are doing with graphs and everything :D

Sounds good :) I'll fire it up again in a day or two...

I can't even get that far. As soon as I click purchase I get an error, which looks like an IE error, but in the steam window.
It's harping on about some security settings which I've changed to what it suggested, but to now avail. Looking round the internet it looks like I'm going to be enjoying learning about port forwarding and setting up static IPs for my router. Joy.

Tried it again and I just can't get into it. Perhaps it's the hideous headaches/motion-sickness it keeps giving me. How far into it before you get to fight "bio-monstrosities"? ;p

Got my copy and finished it all within a few hours, which is disappointing for a game I really looked forward to. Graphics are great when maxed, gameplay however is below average. As someone mentioned, it feels too arcade-like. The game is laid out for you to play, there are no side options. The fights are sometimes challenging when difficulty is maxed (apart from the heavily overused SinTEK Heavy Gunners and annoyingly huge monsters), the game overall isn't.

The game also has a handful of bugs (god knows how some of the obvious bugs got through) though a patch is being released pretty quickly by the devs. Plenty of complaints down at Ritual's forums though :p

Reinstall Steam. I suspect it's barfing at the steam:// URL that gets passed through. Someone else had this exact same problem on the boards - have a search.

I nearly did this the other day, but was concerned about the games already installed. What happens to Half Life 2 when you log back on to steam, can you unlock it again? Provided it's the same account of course.

If it's the same account then you can download and play the games as many times as you like (and indeed on any number of computers) once you've logged in. (if all files are removed, after reinstalling any games you've bought will be available for you to download and install again).

If you bought HL2 on a CD you might need to run the installation program from the CD first - not sure about this though.

Since HL2 is many gigabytes to download, backup your GCF files first to save time and bandwidth.
