*** The Official Sony Ericsson Satio Thread ***

It really does seem like SE are going the way of Motorola in terms of overall quality. I liked both the SE phones I had, but I'd be reluctant to own another one now considering that every major handset they've released since has been fraught with issues.

To be fair to SE, most recent smart phones have had their fair share of problems. Just look at the N97 and its still go major problems at the moment. There is a firmware update due within the next 14 days or so which i have been informed "should" fix all the phones little niggles.

Other then that its a good phone, when it works. :D

This is starting to get a bit worring now.

They've temporarily stopped selling the phone until Sony Ericsson offers a solution to the many customers who have complained to the two stores about the problems, which include random powering-down and slowness. Unfortunately the problem can't be fixed by issuing a firmware upgrade to the handsets, so the faulty handsets must be recalled, resulting in angry customers and a lot of paperwork for Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U.

Sony Ericsson's Senior Marketing Manager, Richard Dorman, told The Times that "Sales of the product have been very strong and we expect them to remain strong once the problem has been fixed," however there's a chance that being withdrawn from two key shops before Christmas might damage Sony Ericsson's sales, made worse by the over-enthusiastic advertising of the Satio, which shows several cheerful people bouncing about on spacehoppers taking photos of each other on the Satio.

I'm glad that you managed to sort out your insurance. If at any time you do wish to cancel, you can do this by giving us 30 days notice. Although I think you have made a very wise decision by taking out insurance for this handset as it would be costly to replace if it were lost/stolen. I'm very pleased to hear that you are enjoying the handset and I hope your satisfaction continues. :D

I hope that you have managed to get the navigation working on the handset. If you are still having difficulties, please feel free to contact us at -

I'm disappointed to hear that you did not get your handset delivered on the day that it was expected. Was the delivery successful in the end? If so, I hope that you are enjoying using the handset.

Jobey292-

360 is not available on the Satio at present and I do not have any further information on this happening.

Have you managed to get hold of the handset yet?

Nuvpal -

I understand your frustration at the change of delivery dates. Have you managed to get the handset yet?

All the best

Yup recieved and been in full use since, with only a couple of erm "niggles" none of these problems ive been hearing about

As i have had the phone now for just over a day, i thought id add some comments about the phone :)

Where do i start, first of all compared to my Nokia N97 i am now able to make / receive calls at home with no problem. The phone its self is very impressive, it’s very quick and snappy. However, one little grumble i do have with the phone is the Vodafone software on it. To start with i found the phone a little clunky with the Vodafone standby menu active once i swapped this back to the Sony Ericsson one the phone is fine and very user friendly. So i think this is a must for all Satio users. Texting with the phone is excellent the on screen qwerty keyboard is very good. The touch screen even though the phones screen is based upon resistive technology is surprising very good. Ids go so far as to say it is as good as the one on the iPhone.

So far ive been unable to get the navigation to work on the phone, as it look like its trying to get to a webpage to download the software and all i am getting HTTP 503 errors (HTTP Error 503 - Service unavailable) Is this a problem with the page its trying to contact or is this a problem with the Vodafone branding?

Multimedia wise this phone is fantastic its a complete dream to use for playing MP3 / Videos. Once i am up to speed with the software it will be replacing my iPod.

However, as i said earlier i believe the phone would be much better IF it didn’t have the Vodafone software branding.

Andy

Hi Andy,
Great that your loving the Satio!

Just to let you know, that the navigation feature is currently not available yet for the Satio. The link on the phone, should prompt you to input your details. This will then contact when the service is available

Best Wishes.

Shame you havn't read all my other comments about the phone.

Thankfully that should be fixed very shortly by de-branding of the phone, no more crappy Vodafone software. :D

New firmware is out for Satio! Havent checked mine yet will do asap

The new firmware has been confirmed as R1CA037 :D

However, if you have a Vodafone handset they wont give any details on times scales for firmware relases which is very poor customer service. Speaking to SE direct, you seem to get more answers it should be due to release on a Vodafone branded flavour in 2/3 weeks

The sooner a debranding is service arrives the better, DaVinci is coming very soon i believe. Ive also found a SE Tools but it requires hardware in order to use it.

Hi everyone,

As andyd has mentioned the software update for Vodafone has now been released and can be downloaded here -

www.sonyericsson.com/update.

Issues with the ringtones have been corrected, the Vodafone Roadsync app is now more stable and improvements have been made to make the handset more reliable.

I hope you all notice an improvement.

All the best,

Are people still happy with this, have the problems with it been ironed out? :p

How is the Mp3 player? And web browser? (in your opinions!) :D

There was a update for the Satio on the 24 Nov, which fixed most of the major problems with the handset. However, it does have a few little niggles with the handset. There is another update due Jan. Its a new smartphone on the market so there are going to be teething problems to start with.

I have had no problems with the MP3 player, as i use this rather then my iPod now. The web browser is not bad IMO, it does all i ask it to do which is good enough for me.

However, the Satio major selling point is its camera which is simply fanatic for a camera phone.

Thanks Andyd.

Another question if I may - how is the screen to use, I heard some mentions of a stylus being used, I really really dont want that! :p

Ive had no problems with it personally. The was a bit laggy with the orignal firmware on the device, now its been update i have no problems.

The phone is great but I'll be selling or swapping mine with something that's got WM6.5 w/ sense or android...
The symbian just doesn't cut it for me anymore, other than that it's all great, especially the music quality on earphones and the camera is just amazing for a phone.

It looks very neat too, at least the black version.
