well, I thikn I managed it then when I went to do the getvar version thing it just sat there doing nothing.. could I have an unlockable version?

Seems odd as its as vanilla as it gets, I was given it by SE directly so its unlocked, unbranded and exactly as they intended it?

Any help gratefully received.

if its unlocked it will go Blue, if its locked it won't.

Id be careful unlocking the bootloader, as it comes with a few caveats. It removes the DRM content from the phone so a few applications will no longer work and also updates by SE will no longer work.

The SE update problem has now been fixed by a member on the XDA forum, which is a simple file which resets some flags on the handset.

I believe the PDA Net has drivers for the SE fast boot, have you also downloaded the Android SDK?

IIRC this only applies if you unlock the bootloader via the SE official method.
If you follow the XDA forum method, then the DRM is still intact.
I may have got the wrong end of the stick, but that was how i read it, but avoid SE official unlock as they will have the phone registered as such anyway.

Vodafone need to approve the update before its released on SUES or OTA.

Just debrand the handset with the Generic UK image, you do not need root to perform this as its a simple flash.

I've looked at various methods of doing this and they all frighten me!.. plus would it mean I'd need to put all my data and apps back on when I've finished???...

I used to do this with my BB-Bold9700 but it don't look as easy for android!! :(

GOT IT!!!!.. :D

not had a play with the new functions yet (hope Voda left some goodies in!!)... Well apart from the 'Screengrab' function!!

:)

Got a problem with the usb port on my xperia arc, anyone else had problems?

The phone connects to the computer and then disconnects, repeating this for all the time it is connected, also charging is problematic!

The usb connector on the phone is a square hole and the connector is a standard micro usb so it is a sloppy fit and I assume this has caused the problem.

Hmmm. Not Happy rite now!!..

Just found (well yesterday) a hairline crack in the housing just above the sensor, reading a thread on XDA seems to be a comon fault with the 'Midnight Blue' version of the Arc!.. :(

Worst still Sony are nearly coming round to the fact it 'might' be a build quality fault, but they've not passed this onto the service providers (especially in the UK) so it 'might not' be a warranty repair/replacement...

I dunno if it will get worse, or effect the performance of the phone!!.. and I'm tied into my Contract till some time early 2013 :(

Quick heads up, the Arc is now £199 from that Jersey store.

Just got one myself, so it better be a good Andy :D

Is Sony Ericsson stuff being sold off in preparation for Sony branded mobile phones?

It'll be interesting to see what they put out at CES/WMC next year. I'm betting it'll be Sony branded handsets with much greater SEN/PSN integration (a match for iTunes/Zune) and a fairly stock ICS UI :)
Shame Sony can't execute with new hardware this release, the S3 snapdragon will be a year old by then (and it's already a bit lacking compared to current Exynos/OMAP4 SoCs)

Oh, here's some freebies for current owners.

Free 50GB cloud storage from Box for all xPeria owners.

My £199 Arc arrived! :)

Really lovely design (apart from that silly 3.5mm jack placement and fiddly power/camera button)
It's surprisingly good to have real physical back/home/menu buttons again (not having a search button is a pita but ICS should sort that out)
