right, I've completely messed up my arc.. long story that involves getting it as a freebie, rooting it then doing a factory reset which seems to have gotten it part of the way done.

it functions, texts, goes on marketplace etc but if you go into the camera it crashes, the home button doesn't work etc.

So I figured just like with my galaxy S and S2 I could just reflash it back to stock, stock kernel etc etc but noooo... I plug it into my pc and it keeps throwing up MTB and MTP errors, S1 boot drivers not installing etc etc..

Is there anything out there that will flash it right back to stock? Pretty easily?

I have to say its way way easier to play with Galaxys, I've never managed to brick one of those with numerous flashes, even with my S2 on the nightly CM7 builds it breaks then works again and anytime I want it back to stock I can ...

HELP! This thing is half fine, half mental so I can't use it or sell it!

On the X10 you can do a repair via Sonys update tool, can you not do the same for the arc ?

IIRC you can unbrick it with Omnius remote flash

There is also a guy on XDA who does remore stuff and in the thread ppl have said he fixed bricked Arcs.

Omnius is a cost option now.

Xperia flash tool should work fine. IIRC Its very hard to brick the current Xperia line. However, if you have re partitioned the nand on a 2011 handset I think that will cause a few problems.

I just checked for SEUS and it just points me at the pc companion which I've got? argh!

EDIT:

Awesomeness! I had another browse around, XDA suggested you download SEUS anyway even though the SE site says its not compatible, run it as the administrator and it sees the phone and offers a wipe and update option... thank god its back to normal!

Right, time for CM& lol!

This is epic news!

http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/wp/2011/09/28/sony-ericsson-supports-independent-developers/

Karl-Johan Dahlström, Head of Developer Relations at Sony Ericsson, has just posted a very interesting post over on the SE Developer Blog. He has just confirmed that Sony Ericsson has been assisting the FreeXperia developer team, beyond what we’ve seen from most other manufacturers.

If you’ve been following us for a while now you’ll know that the FreeXperia team over at xda-developers have been providing custom ROMs for the Xperia X10 initially and branched out to all other Xperia phones. One of the problems that has always been difficult to solve is the proprietary work that Sony Ericsson has undertaken on the camera side of things.

Well apparently the hard work and passion shown by the dedicated FreeXperia team caught the attention of Sony Ericsson. They have worked hard to assist the team in making a CyanogenMod custom ROM for the Xperia range of smartphones. Sony Ericsson has given around 20 handsets to the team and even provided “debugged and rebuilt camera library binaries”. These libraries will made available to all under a special EULA license shortly to further assist developers.

So what does this mean? Well it shows that not only are Sony Ericsson delivering timely Android updates, but they are now actively helping the developer community not only in unlocking the bootloader but providing solutions to get custom ROM’s to the people that want them. This is some superb news and hopefully long may it continue.

Being a builder my X10i is coming to an end, the screen is cracked(but still works) its getting rather slow and I am looking to upgrade but dont know what to get. Arc, Arc S or Ray.
What are your thoughts please as you seem to know what your on about :D :P

PS does the arc have a louder speaker when in calls I mean. the X10 was always quiet for me.

The Arc has no problems in terms of loudness from ether in-call or loudspeaker, infact I think its one of the loudest phones I have used in a while.

I believe the current Arc has or is going EoL shortly. So that would leave the Arc S and the Xperia Ray.

It basically boils down to what handset you think will suit you best. The Xperia Ray would be more pocketable but lacks the HDMI output. However, if its media orientated phone with HDMI output id go with the Arc S. Other than that I believe they have the same feature set and specs.

Also its worth noting that SE's new flagship handset will be due March 2012, so it depends if you can wait that long.

so I'm having a go at unlocking the bootloader and I'm getting the same issue, everytime I connect the usb whilst holdimg menu (phone off) it tells me I need an S1 Fastboot driver which neither windows or I can find.

I've downloaded some fastboot drivers, usb flash drivers etc and pointed device manager at them and its just not having it.. any suggestions?

well, I thikn I managed it then when I went to do the getvar version thing it just sat there doing nothing.. could I have an unlockable version?

Seems odd as its as vanilla as it gets, I was given it by SE directly so its unlocked, unbranded and exactly as they intended it?

Any help gratefully received.
