thanks for the advice chimerical i think that's is the way foward, im glad that i asked now instead of going with what i thought was good!, probally a stupid question but with that dfi lan mobo can i run 2 of those g cards if i wanted to (in the future that is).

I currently have and overclocked DFI ULtraD Opteron (Single Core) with 2GB of Ram.

Looking for a Motherboard , processor and ram upgrade budget is £450.

The important thing is the CPU and the motherboard are as overclockable and stable as possible.

I currently know very little about modern hardware but i am familier with AMD overclocking of the past.

Will a corsair HX520 be up to the job to power this ?

I dont want to answer my own spec me thread but can anyone improve on this?

IMO dont get the raptor, but thats your ultimate decision, i would get the 320GB Samsung F1 and add a sound card (X-Fi Xtreme Gamer)

Ok took the spec that was done for me above for £300 and had a play around have made a spec myself but I need some advide on the mobo please:

I have vista64 and a 22" dell widescreen monitor, I just cannot decided which mobo to go for any advice please?

shaffaaf27 said id recomend the ASUS P5Q pro, but as its out of stock the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3

Ok ready to order but.....

The Asus P5Q pro is back in stock, but I have a little more money now so I picked the Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCS Extreme 1024MB card I also see that the Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard is also available.

Help

do you need dual GB lan, and Esata, if so pay the extra, if not stick with the P5Q PRO.
1GB 4850 seems good, esp for only, though i would get the 512 and get a better cooler (Arctic Cooling Xtreme)

Hi guys,

Need some quick advice on a spec. I need help with the best mobo and HSF for this CPU and RAM (does this ram 'work' with this cpu)

GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon EVO ONE DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GE24GB1066C5DC)

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

Very very new to this malarky and would be thankful for some advice.

Chez.

whats your buddget?

Not sure, just looking for a 'good fit'. Don't want to go stupid money but at the same time don't want to go bargain basement.

Does upto £200 sound about right?

Cheers

P.S Going into Antec 1200 with this GFX, Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

BUDGET: as close to £700 as possible.
What I'm after: gaming PC, to utilise my 19" TFT, so I'll be sticking with 1280x1024 resolution.

Is there anything which is an obvious mis-match, or overkill?

I don't keep much in the way of "media" - a bit of music, that's about it; would I be better off getting the 74GB 10K disk for OS, games etc, and a second 7200rpm HDD for documents, music etc? (I currently have a two-HDD setup like this, and prefer it for keeping data seperate)

One other question - do I need any cables, or do all the parts come with the cables required?

Thanks ;)

EDIT: I don't know anythig about overclocking, but I'd like to be able to, in the future, if I wanted to....

Ditch the Thermaltake case.

Buy an Antec 1200 instead, if you want awesome cooling power for that 4870X2.

Plus, why have you specced two different monitors? Don't you want identical ones?

I've just seen this sticky and thought it would be quite useful, as I'm looking to build a new system soon.

Although I've started to make a list of components for myself from the OCUK shop, I thought I'd use the expertise here to help me out and put me on the right track, as I can't seem to keep up with the latest CPU's MB's & GFX cards etc! :o

BUDGET: Up to £2000

Processor: Yes (Quad Core)
Motherboard: Yes
Memory: Yes
Graphics Card(s): Yes
TV Card: No
Hard Drive(s): Yes
Optical Drive(s): Yes (x 2)
Cooling: Yes
Water Cooling: If thought required
Cable(s): Yes
Sound Card: Yes (w/front bay - looks like the Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro is my only option)
Controller Card(s):No
Case: Yes (I can't have one thats height is more than 475mm due to height limitations with my desk)
Power Supply: Yes

Keyboard: Yes (Wireless)
Mouse: Yes (Wireless)
Headset: No
Speakers: Yes (Not needing Surround Sound - had my eye onCreative Gigaworks T40 2.0)
Monitor(s): Yes
Operating System: Yes (Vista 64 bit as well as XP Home to run older apps )

Uses: Main uses will be games (FSX & FS9), audio editing & mastering in Sound Forge & CD Architect, plus some photo & /FS texture editing in PSP 7 & 11, and occasional video editing from a Sony DV cam. (Basicaly I want the best CPU/RAM/Motherboard combo for the buget, as these are the most important bits if I'm to run FSX to it's full potential).

Overclocking: If thought benificial.

Cheers

Hi all. I hope you guys can give me some advice. My machine is beginning to look a little long in the tooth now and I would like to upgrade it to give performance a boost. Haven't been on the boards for quite a while and in my absence it seems that Intel is now the new AMD! Totally confused over their processor range hence seeking advice if this the way to go over AMD.

The pc is mostly used for general web surfing etc including running a lot of web based Java apps. I occasionaly play online games such as COD2 and would like to give COD4 a spin.

My budget is £200- £300 and as a starter I am thinking of new mobo, processor and memory if this would give a decent performance boost over my current setup. Poss a new graphics card as well.. possibly 8800GT? The only real requirement is to have a reasonable upgrade path for later in the year, ie maybe a better processor. Am willing to do some basic overclocking to get better performance. A tall order I suspect!

My current spec is as follows:

AMD 3700+ San Diago core - overclocked
ASUS ASN 8 SLI SE motherboard
1GB Geil value ram
XFX 7800 GT graphics card
Pioneer DVD
Lian Li AO5B case
Tagan PSU (500w - I think)
Samsung 500gb SATA drive
Running Windows XP

Thanks!
