*****THE OFFICIAL "SPEC ME" THREAD*****

What difference would I see if the gfx was:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

hardly any, the 4850 doesnt see any (maybe 2-3) frames difference with 1024MBs as it doesnt have the power to push the res (1920 above) with AA/AF that need that.

but if you feel like it would make you better then go ahead.

also both cards have custom coolers, both are quiet.

Hi all,

I current have plenty of time (due to my girlfriend getting up and leaving different story thou!!) so time to up my gaming a little.

My sorry little system at the moment is:

LG W2234S 22" monitor (keeper)
normal run of mill advent speakers (keeper)
gaming mouse and keyboard (Keepers)

CASE: Jeantech micro titan
PSU: Blue storm II 500W (Keeper)
Drives: 2 SATA hard drives and a Emprex DVD drive (Keepers)
PCI cards: (i)Belkin wireless card (Keeper)
(ii)x-Fi card (Keeper)

CPU: Celeron 2.53GHz
MOBO: VIA P4M800-M7 (mATX)
GFX: Radeon X1650
Memory: 1.5GB Generic RAM

Wish List

BUDGET:£300-400

Processor: Thinking of the E5200 (OC it to 3+GHz)
Motherboard: Yeap Please
Memory: Yeap Please
Graphics Card(s): Yeap Please
TV Card: No
Hard Drive(s): Already have
Optical Drive(s): No
Cooling: Yeap Please
Water Cooling: No

Operating System: Already have

Uses: Casual Gaming
Overclocking: If poss. i'd like to try!!

How easy is the E5200 to overclock safely? i have no experience of this.

Thanks

so i had a look for myself and i came up with:

Gainward GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

Lian Li PC-C37B Muse HTPC Chassis - Black

Asus P5E-VM HDMI Intel G35 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

You forgot me

right, i will strongly advice a new case aswell:

ok, im happy with the overall spec, just a couple of points for clarification:

Why dual core over the quad core? If I go quad core I can get the asus board that comes with 1080 on board and also futureproof myself a bit more?

If its simply a question of doing this to stay in the budget i set i will raise more cash.

also, thanks for taking the time :)

id recomend the ASUS P5Q pro, but as its out of stock the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3

also for OCing a quad, id go for this:

Rusty Lee, gimmie a sec.

Zildjian

the E8500 is much much better

specs very nice, but go for this card

Samfau2 give me 15 mins, and ill get to you after rusty.

Squidward (love the name :D)

the higher clocked dual core will be much better than a slower quad.

to get the most out of the 4870 its better to have a 3GHz dual/quad core CPU. the quad will easily clock to 3GHz, but a tower case would be a better idea for OCing a CPU.

the 4870 will blaze through games, its quiet, and supports full 1080p rendering, with 7.1 surrond sounds and DTS audio encoding, its superb :)

the higher clocked dual core will be much better than a slower quad. NOT REALLY FOR GAMES IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE APART FROM THE QUAD WILL DO WINDOWS TASKS a lot BETTER AND GIVE YOU 0 PERFORMANCE DECREASE IN GAMES

- AS LONG AS YOU GET A 1024MB VERSION FOR CRYSIS FULL BLAST AT 1080P OR AN X2 VERSION

- AS LONG AS YOU GET A 1024MB VERSION FOR CRYSIS FULL BLAST AT 1080P OR AN X2 VERSION

it does make a difference, there is an article about it by legion hardware.

very informative, just google CPU scaling with a 4870x2, and you will see.

yes you need a goo cooler, and to use a good cooler you need a bigger case at HTPC cases are not high enough to support good high end coolers, and do not shift enough air for a 4870 AND an overclocked overvolted quad core.

the E8400 is very cool and uses little power aswell, and under stock voltages will hit 3.3GHz even if he does want to OC.

you realyl think on a desktop that a quad and dual core are different.... the difference on windows tasks would mainly be due to a slower HDD if anything, as the desktop uses very little in the way of CPU and power. also define windows tasks.

the 1GB makes little difference unless you are slapping on AA/AF at higher res, or insane AA at lower res.

4-5 frames at most. you will not be able to tell that on crysis, it will easily handle cryssi at 1080p maxed out, no aa/af 30+ FPs, and if you dont look at the FPS, then really you wont notice any slow downs IF there are any.

also next time no need to shout, please use the capslock key effectivly :D
