*****THE OFFICIAL "SPEC ME" THREAD*****

BUDGET:£200-400

Processor: Yes
Motherboard: Possibly
Memory: Yes
Graphics Card(s): Yes

I'm currently running:

Processor: AM2 4200+ x2
Motherboard: Asus M2n-X
Memory: 2gb ddr2
Graphics Card(s): Nvidia 8800gs 320mb
TV Card:
Hard Drive(s): 500gb Seagate
Optical Drive(s):
Cooling:
Water Cooling:
Cable(s):
Sound Card:
Controller Card(s):
Case:
Power Supply: 500w

Keyboard:
Mouse:
Headset:
Speakers:
Monitor(s): 1 19" Widescreen set to 1440x900
Operating System: Vista

Basically i'm looking into upgrading my rig for both work (graphic design) and gaming (FarCry2). I'm looking for a combination of both processing power and graphical quality preferrably built around AMD and ATI products, I am willing to look down all avenues though. Ideally I would like to go cheap, but without sacrificing quality. I'm also unsure as to whether my current board would support a Phenom x4, so a new mobo will most likely need to be factored in.

Thanks a lot.

Edit: Placed an order today so no spec needed :)

If i was to scrap the idea of getting a monitor and any peripherals, could you make the system any better. I'm a little bit of a newbie when it comes to building a system, in fact a total newbie.

So if anyone could give me any advice and spec me a good sytem, i would be a happy man. I want something that will run all new games and i like my music so itunes must run nice and smooth.

I can stretch to £1000 aswell, i suppose.

Thanks a bunch

Hi all.
I'm thinking about selling my big 17" laptop and moving back to a desktop PC since I don't seem to be taking my laptop anywhere. I haven't been building PCs or reading about computer hardware for about 2-3 years now, so I am a bit behind. Any help would be appreciated!
I would like this build to last quite a while and be easily upgradable.

BUDGET: £800-900

Processor: Yes
Motherboard: Yes
Memory: Yes
Graphics Card(s): Yes
TV Card: No
Hard Drive(s): Yes (atleast 200GB)
Optical Drive(s): Yes (DVD-RW)
Cooling: Yes (120mm fans. Effective but quiet if possible!)
Water Cooling: No
Cable(s): Yes
Sound Card: No

Controller Card(s): No
Case: Yes ( I like Lian-Li cases, 120mm fans:) )
Power Supply: Yes

Keyboard: Yes
Mouse: Yes
Headset: No
Speakers: No
Monitor(s): Yes (20"+)
Operating System: Yes, Vista.

Uses: It will be used for some gaming, a bit of video encoding/processing and will probably be used for graphical design using programs like AutoCAD in the future. Also used to watch DVDs/movies.
Overclocking: I won't be overclocking unless I need to (so hopefully atleast 2 years or so?)

Uses: will be sat in my front room hooked up to my 1080 TV. Needs to function as a media centre (added 2x 1tb HDDs to spec, 1 as backup drive). Everything will be going through PC: music, TV, cable, DVDs.

Am a fairly keen gamer, If it could also play cod4/5 at a reasonable level would be a bonus.

finally: quiet!! My current PC is a dinosaur overclocked p4 2.8 that perma runs on air at 3.6ghz. unfortunately the air in question is circulated by lots and lots of fans. With this build I would like to barely know the PC is in the room - if this includes extra components or hardware to quieten things down ill happily pay the extra.
