***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Well i'm having loads of problems on pc, Win 10, RTX3070, 9700K @ 4.7Ghz, and nothing but ctd's, ive not even managed to leave the planet yet as the best ive managed is about 5 mins of play time before it ctd's, ive rolled back 3 gfx drivers to 536.67, dumped all the options to low, the game looks janky as hell now, & i still can't get it to behave. I'm well & truly baffled.
That sounds like a Bethesda game alright.

If it continues to CTD, I'd wait until they release a major patch before playing again.

I personally wouldn't want to experience the game this way and that is why I'm going to wait a few months. Not as if there are no other games to play between now and the end of the year :).

Played about an hour, character name, Greta Goodhead.
Going to have another quick hour now, too many errands/ granddad things to do until later tonight

Look forward to an inventory mod, you can tell it's been designed for consoles.

Also lol, installed DLSS mod, game won't launch. PC modding in a nutshell.

Edit 2: My fault for not reading description, PEBKAC.

Ok so the lols that is FSR is indeed true as mentioned earlier

Enabling FSR results in LOWER framerates. I am playing with everything maxed, DRS off, render scale disabled or 100% if using FSR.

Game runs flawlessly though and the image is more stable with FSR off due to FSR2's weird artefact noise on stuff like grated fences/floors/walls etc so I prefer the cleaner image of native.

There is no fullscreen option so cannot use DLDSR without changing desktop resolution which as most will know, I CBA doing because principles.

There is no way to change the FSR mode, so not sure if it's in FSR Quality or whatever, doesn't matter either way since FSR is trash and is best left turned off anyway.

The GFX settings are severely lacklustre IMO compared to other games with superior GFX settings and an actual preview of what they do etc.

in terms of performance, did an RTSS benchmark during the first firefight which seemed the ideal place to run those numbers and got:

Starfield.exe benchmark completed, 5787 frames rendered in 68.750 s
Average framerate : 84.1 FPS
Minimum framerate : 75.2 FPS
Maximum framerate : 99.5 FPS
1% low framerate : 56.8 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 47.6 FPS

Before the firefight section I ran a long bench which lasted 224 seconds which covers indoors as well, that got:

Starfield.exe benchmark completed, 43703 frames rendered in 224.281 s
Average framerate : 194.8 FPS
Minimum framerate : 62.6 FPS
Maximum framerate : 1533.7 FPS
1% low framerate : 78.0 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 19.8 FPS

My immediate annoyance was that dark areas that SHOULD be black are instead a faded tone, I guess this is Bethesda's MO though, this makes the game entirely pointless on OLED, it's a space game, you kind of expect inky blacks... I'll see if this changes once I get into space though, areas like this are just faded black which looks a bit pants. I recall Cyberpunk being faded black too at launch but they later sorted the colour tones and now it uses proper black shades which look good on OLED:

Oh yeah, my guy:

There are no CPU optimisation issues, the CPU is basically walking along and all threads are healthily being utilised at all times which is nice to see. No stutters observed so far, as far as performance goes it's hit it out of the park really.

Edit*
Oh yeah look at the VRAM and RAM use, the textures are low enough quality than you could run this with a 6GB GPU at native 1440p lol :p
Wtf were they smoking with some of those system requirements?
You need a faster CPU, as FSR increases frame rates nicely on my 4090 when paired with a 7950X3D. I can hit up to 150-160 FPS in these areas and I'm still GPU limited, even with FSR running at 50% of the native 4K resolution.

Time to upgrade that 12700K to allow that 4090 to stretch its legs properly. :)

On a 3060ti and 8700k it ran well in medium at 1440p.

The quests thing was annoying- hope that has some sort of upgrade/fix.

The inventory feels like it's not finished, either.

Enemy AI is dumb.

I quite enjoyed the hour or so I played last night. Not excellent yet, but will give it a dozen hours in game before I judge it.

I've downloaded the standard edition on gamepass, but I've now bought a 7900 xt which is arriving today (yay!). Should I uninstall the gamepass version and re-download the game using the codes I'll get?

Starfield 4K Max Settings on a 7900 XTX. Game runs great for me on the XTX and the 4090. Very smooth and no bugs that i could see.
Early testing indicates the XTX to be similar or slightly faster than my 4090.

Going to wait for either Nvidea to release a driver update or the devs to release a patch that allows Nvidea GPU's to perform as they should in this game. Going by Daniels testing equivalent AMD cards are getting 20 -30% better FPS. Ultra settings seems to be broken on some Nvidea cards.

@LtMatt

Poor form quoting yourself unless you’re trying to win an unwinnable argument in the GPU forum. ;)

Hope my 5950X doesn’t hold back my 4090FE too much when I get a chance to play on Wednesday.

Finally downloaded the preload at least.

Pretty bold of him to tell someone to upgrade their CPU/whole system, when we have no actual benchmarks to test if it would be even worth it/make a big difference.
