***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Can't say I'm impressed so far, game crashed 3 times in under an hour.

Performance seems mediocre at best at 1440p on a 7900XT.
I hope your sig (CPU) is outdated? The 7900 XT won't get out of second gear with that CPU.
Shouldn't people wait for an actual balanced comparison/benchmark test?

In a lot of games, a 12700k Vs 5800x3d Vs a 7950x3d will make little difference, even at 720p. It's not like they are running a 7th gen i3 or something.

Sure, Starfield could be one of the few exceptions, but I'd be amazed if the difference was worth a whole new system and a £650 cpu ...
Yes, by all means, I never said they shouldn't. However, I did say that the CPU might need to be upgraded if you want to avoid weird situations like FSR showing no performance benefit. You are in effect running a lower resolution with FSR enabled, so if you are CPU limited then lowering the resolution (by activating FSR) is not going to increase FPS. However, maybe he has some other issue with his system/driver and he's not CPU limited. But that is usually the cause if FPS do not increase by lowering resolution which was why I provided three examples showing that performance does scale on my hardware. I get your point btw.

EDIT

Optimised for AMD but runs better on Nvidia cards
I have both and can say the 7900 XTX and 4090 both run the game well, with no issues. However, the 7900 XTX is slightly faster, but not by much. My 4090 is overclocked to silly high clock speeds too. :)

Combat is simplistic but enjoyable so far and graphically it is quite good if not ground breaking. At least it doesn’t rely on RT to get decent effects then call it “progress”.

I have settled on all settings ultra except DoF off, motion blur off and render scale 75% with FSR2 enabled. As an Nvidia 4080 owner I don’t see the hate for FSR2 as it looks fine and does increase FPS with render scale set to an appropriate number. I like that you can dynamically adjust the render scale to your own liking rather than presets.

Maybe it’s because I don’t read any preview hype or any gaming sites ever, but to me this is a very good game, RPG elements seem good so far and the exploration is perfectly good for an RPG centred game. I don’t care about transitions from space to surface etc and even BG3 had transitions between maps and I don’t recall any of the “negativity”.

I don't really like the weapon sound effects, they are a bit weak but I wonder if it's supposed to be resembling sound through a space suit. Wanted some meaty firing sounds.

3 crashes in under an hour?, i envy you, i'm now into double figures crash wise & ive only been playing for around 2 hours, ive spent so much time trouble shooting it's taken me that long just to get off the planet.

Not a bad start considering some people won't be playing until the 6th *and* this doesn't include GamePass of course:

Wasn't Reddit and Twitter going to boycott this for some reason?

For the love of God, please do not let this become like the GPU thread. It's the worst e-place on earth.

It was the same in the BG3 thread (and that's an Nvidia sponsored game). People are entitled to like/not like a game and are welcome to post their opinions. Though I do find it funny that the usual suspects are happy to even tell blatant lies to try and fit their own narrative. "ooh it's not doing well, ony 7/10 avg reviews", checks avg score on metacritic and it's at 88/100. I don't even care about the actual score as I am enjoying it, but do these people not realise telling lies that are easily debunked, just makes them look stupid?

You need a faster CPU, as FSR increases frame rates nicely on my 4090 when paired with a 7950X3D. I can hit up to 150-160 FPS in these areas and I'm still GPU limited, even with FSR running at 50% of the native 4K resolution.

Time to upgrade that 12700K to allow that 4090 to stretch its legs properly. :)

7950X3D + 4090

No thanks :p I'll stick to the 12700KF :D

Also keep in mind I am playing native, and was using FSR with 100% res scale and VRS off etc as noted by someone else earlier, so effectively just using FSR for AA, which still looks poor around mesh areas of fences or grated floors due to FSR's inherent nature of artefact issues.

I'd rather stick to native res only in this and have a clean and stable image.

Can the game recognise 5120 x 1440 Ultrawide? I cant find how to do this??? on 3840 x 1440 (or something) with black bars on the side.

Otherwise, game auto-detected max settings for my 7950 X3D RTX 4090 64 GB DR 5 ETC.

That is what I've done.

I am literally talking about arguing about GPU's in this thread. Nothing to do with the game itself.

Ah, your original post only stated that FSR lowers performance with no further explanation. Thanks for clearing it up. I didn't realise you were in effect not using upscaling at all so that's why you see no performance gain.

Tbf no one is arguing about GPUs Noxia, it only got brought up by you.

This place hasn't changed one bit. :p

Respectfully Matt, I'm not someone who constantly gets suspended for bringing AMD vs the world into everything. Are you seriously denying you have been talking about GPU's in here (as well as cpus).

On topic:
Tell you something, spoons have a great value to mass ratio, 35 credits for 0.05.
