***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Come on, there are areas that are seriously washed out and the textures are laughable. No HDR or even a brightness/gamma toggle.

Just the basics, really.

Lack of HDR is a problem but I was literally just marvelling at the crisp high resolution textures in one of the moons and the bases at the early part of the game.

I've installed an FOV mod already and will be looking at options for Reshade. It's not even day 1 yet as that's officially September 6th. :p

Yeah I have never really bothered with reshades but looks like might be forced to here.
Such a contrast with textures etc, some ground ones were awful, but then city looks good.

Some areas yeah, others look great. I was playing Quake2 last night so guess graphics aren't a major blocker for me.
I don't think it looks bad at all, I just don't see why it's apparently so demanding to run for the fidelity offered. Or well, as was said above in the things, I do have some inkling of performance limitations like were mentioned there, I think I'm just fed up of this engine and all the NPCs looking like they're related :p.

Just started playing at lunchtime. Struggling though as I'm working off about 2hr sleep and i'm hanging, I need a power nap! Really want to play but I've got stuff to do unfortunately. Gonna have to either come back to it this evening or just have a good nights sleep and write off tomorrow to a monster session on it.
So far very surprised how well its running, got it cranked up pretty much all the way at Ultrawide 1440, It does look very nice. Cant speak too much to gameplay yet only just got off the first planet/moon thing, far too early to tell, initial thoughts are positive though.

Some folks need new eyeballs it seems :p The game does not look great at any resolution or setting (photo mode doesn't count), the depth of field is too artifical as well, very few games actually get this right. Everything is washed out and highlights are blown out mashes of pale hues. It's immediately clear that something is not right about the colour and brightness to those who are used to decently calibrated games and displays in general but should be very obvious to basically everyone. Cyberpunk had the same issue and it was fixed months down the line.

Careful selling stuff to the machine vendors, if you make a mistake you're SOL lol.

Edit, I lied, there is a buyback.
Also be careful they don't run out of credits as it doesn't seem to warn you and just let's you keep selling things for zero credits.

Found that out the hard way when offloading junk.

Is anyone using the DLSS mod and does it make a difference? basically is it worth downloading?

Thanks

If Bethesda games were sold on their graphics,New Vegas would have sold no copies. New Vegas looked jank at launch and was a bugfest - Starfield is far better in this regard. You might not believe it though! :p

I agree on the washed out look but at no level are the textures laughable. I get crisp high resolution textures everywhere I look.

Performance, textures fine on XSX, but I also don’t get the filter/gamma issue. I’m looking at the dark side of Mars that should be, well, dark and glorious on my OLED, yet it’s all washed out. Some places aren’t like that, but those that are don’t make sense.

On another note, we should be able to cancel the ships boost by pressing the boost button again! We can’t, you have to throw it in reverse.

The recent System Shock remake looks a lot better IMHO at the higher resolutions and works for me in ultra-wide out of the box, far better game play too.

Beginning to wonder what all the hype was about now?

Well have people forgotten the orange tinge on New Vegas which gave it a "unique" look? Fallout 3 had a green tinge! Bethesda games studio.....never changes!

New Vegas isn't a good example, it was and still is incredible when it came to it's choices, dialogue and RPG systems. Obsidian also only had 18 or so months to make it, this was a limitation put on them by Bethesda, that the game was in the state it was on release was a fantastic effort considering the scope of it.

But yeah, it was a mess to begin with!

$400 million game in 2023 doesn't even have AUTO HDR support, let alone native HDR support. Then the stupid "they/them" pronoun selector, I have 30 minutes of game time left before I lose the ability to refund.

This washed out look is nasty, need more fps. Can anyone give better instructions on adding DLSS? I followed the instructions but it wasn't clear to me, normally I do this stuff but for some reason I can't work it out.
