***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I don't know where some of you got the info that I wasn't enjoying the game. I am playing it under the same conditions as I did with Cyberpunk at launch, appreciating the good bits, but observing and sharing the bad bits, both games had a lot of bad bits to post about whether GIFs, screenshots or otherwise :p

All I've said so far is that I would not have paid £65 for premium had I known that the PC version was so lacking of PC centric mechanics/features and technologies that other games ship with as standard! I think it's a fair cop at £25, but not beta test and pay for the privilege! At least Cyberpunk didn't go down the premium route and had more comedy to post

At least with Cyberpunk V actually talks, in this it's just outbound text to click which is less immersive lol. Still, the weapon sounds are amazing in this and the way they change pitch and impact depending on where you are in the area is impressive. If you have hifi speakers on your PC then definitely make use of the audio fidelity this game offers for audio. It one-ups Cyberpunk in that area for sure.

As for the sharpening, I see no difference adjusting the in-game sharpening values when DLSS is being used, I also see no real difference settings a DLSS sharpening value outside of the 0.7 in the upscaler ini file. I tried 1.0 and saw no difference, for example. If there is a difference then I wasn't seeing it at 200% zoom looking at the screenshots afterwards in the one indoor scene with computer keyboards and screens in the BG.

I actually prefer silent protagonists, means I don't instantly dislike a character or whatever due to voice (like most of the BG3 companions, noting they aren't protagonists)

Finished the main story earlier, 2001 a space odyssey vibes.

Will have another playthrough of the game :) doing all of the side missions etc :) which I avoided for the most part on my 1st run.

Looks like it was the right decision based on what I'm seeing on twitter.

The voiced protaganist in Fallout 4 had some whoppers.

@mrk The community demanded Bethesda games studio go back to a silent protagonist. Apparently voicing a protagonist limited role playing options.

You stuck to mainline story only on this run? How long did it take to complete? :)

I prefer unvoiced also I think. For voiced it needs to be great writing and great voice actor to boot. Hard to get both right and even then what the voice actor says may not match what you were thinking.

Keep in mind part of the reason this engine came about is because it allows them to do things other engines didn't. The sheer customisation and interaction with items in the game world. It was never designed for the best image quality.
And hence this is why have mods.
I think this says it all:

TW3 is now quite old and a pretty open world, but I suspect that most are not mods as figuring that out without a creation kit? Good luck!

We all know there is plenty wrong with Bethesda's engine technically. However, I suspect that most users of Elderscrolls / Fallout mods are mostly concerned with NPCs, scripting and AI. Texture mods are popular but while a huge effort goes into them, technically they don't really need engine updates.

What's the recommended reshade mod people are using? I see there's a few on the mod thread and also the LUT option?
Cheers

Fallout 4 had a voiced protaganist but all the RPG fans thought it wasn't immersive for some reason,so they dropped it for Starfield. A bit of a shame, because the sarcastic lines were pretty funny.

I could have coped with having two pre-made voices in Fallout4, but two pre-made characters was too much.

In Gothic 1/2 or The Witcher 3, having your character being forced to utter Nameless Hero's / Geralt's words became tiresome for me. (In defence of Gothic, the character was infamously curt especially in German which as another reason to play in German beside Gothic 1's awful English voice-acting.)

Unless we get extra emoticons we can chose from for each piece of dialogue (say this in a sarcastic voice, say such in slow sardonic style, etc.) and voice actors to record all those variations, we will always have this problem.

Maybe when AI voice synthesis gets really really but it also requires a model of your character: if you keep acting as jerk, the game notices and gives you suitable replies. A very long way away?

They expanded the number of lines using AI in this mod:

But the voice actress for Nora didn't like what they were doing,so they removed the original version. But you can find the older one with the synthesised voice. There was also a very well done voice mod which added far more lines to Serena from Skyrim but the mod author removed the whole mod.

The voice actress for Nora was pretty great IMHO.Courtenay Taylor has done some great characters in other games too.

Heres an interesting little "tip" I just heard for those who are looking for good loot, if you load into an area with the difficulty set on Very Hard, then lower the difficulty to Very Easy. All the mobs change to being very easy but their loot and the loot in chests all stays at Very Hard loot levels of drops

The Neutral-LUT mod which isn't a reshade, is all that's needed to sort the washed out look out really.
Looking in that mod thread, which would you say is the best out of the Neutral LUT one and the Decent one? They seem to basically do the same thing, so wondered if one is better than the other

If you're going to that much effort to cheat you may as well just use the console to give yourself what you want.

I guess for people who do it they still sort of feel they are doing something to "earn" the loot rather than just spawning the items (if you can do that with the console)

Beats me, I play all my games on their hardest difficulty levels and dont lower it even if it ends up getting to a point where I cant continue anymore :D

DEBUNKED

Which is ironic really because I found Horizon Zero Dawn extremely boring, I've tried 4 cracks at Horizon from the start and each time I get bored at around the 5-6 hour mark. Witcher 3 was ok in its day but I tried it again recently and something about it just felt off and my opinion of it now was far lower than my opinion of it back in the day. Conversely I've now done 20 hours in God of War since its release on friday and think its truly stunning. It may even already be a contender for Game of the Year for me and its only January, which is nuts. Whatever comes through this year is going to have to be something pretty special to top this imo. I havent found the boss fights particularly long and difficult but surely if you are finding them long and difficult then the obvious solution would be to lower the difficulty? I recently finally realised after decades of playing that there are no awards for completing games on a high level and that ultimately bashing away at a higher difficulty just so that I can say I did a game on a higher difficulty can often lead to frustration and reduced enjoyment rather than a sense of accomplishment. I'm playing this on whatever the 2nd difficulty was called and I'm finding that just about right for me, not too easy but doable fights.

I mean, on the plus side, what I take from that is that I should be flattered that you consider the things I say so important as to remember the things I've written 18 months ago , so I'll take that as a compliment :D

No. I took 1 minute to search "difficulty" with your username and caught you with your pants down looooooool.
