***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Oh and at @Tek81

Can you update the thread title please. I think everyone knows by now what Starfield is and that is a rpg set in space and made by Bethesda and that there might be spoilers.

May I suggest ** The Official Starfield Thread ** or something like that.

You could even have fun with it like so:

** The Official Starfield Thread (where people get more pleasure bitching about it than playing it) ** :D

I'm now level 5 and my first impressions are
Looks good, not great, but I'm on a 8700k/3060ti so am happy with that. Performs OK in medium graphics. No real bugs encountered yet.
Load screens are OK, prefer it to the faff of manual take off
I do not like the space combat/ flight
The inventory is very annoying
Map screens also annoying
Buying/ selling is annoying
Oxygen system is annoying me, but I guess will improve with levelling
Enemy AI is lame
Using tab to leave menus us annoying, and in contravention of the laws of both God and man

Despite my moans above, I'm enjoying the game itself- which is the main thing.

and add NO HELPFUL LINKS this is ONLY for moaning about hardware/software we don't own and giving sponsored shills clickbait revenue.

Starfield is *already* in better shape than Cyberpunk was at launch. In fact, if I felt like being controversial I might even say that Starfield at launch (from my experience so far) has around the same amount of bugs Cyberpunk has today, 32 months after it was released.

CP2077 as of today is pretty much bug free with plenty of content to do, a great story with fantastic side missions and incredible graphics even without RT enabled. I personally get the same FPS in CP with RT High at 1440p without scaling as I do in Starfield with scaling and gfx on Ultra without any form of RT, and CP2077 looks way better.

I'm gonna throw my 2p into this long back and forth between posters. There is lots of talk about having to add mods to make the game work as it should. Your wrong the mods make the game work how YOU want it to work. there is nothing wrong with the game mechanics, it's how the developers wanted it to work, just because its not how you want it to work doesn't make it wrong. Now the DLSS mod, that is one I agree with, but as its an AMD sponsored title. There was always going to be a favouritism towards AMD, especially as its also an XBOX release (AMD Hardware). Official DLSS will come of that I have no doubt. One issue I do have is the lack of 32:9 support, especially all the preview's showing it running on these displays. I myself am running it on an Samsung G9 49" and am disappointed with the lack of the 32:9 support but I'm not letting it get in the way of my enjoyment. Spec wise I have a 5800X / 6900XT and have no issues whatsoever with the performance, and yes i think it looks good. It is definitely Fallout in space, so far after @ 22hrs (according to steam) of playing and now @ Level 13 - i love it. I loved Fallout 3 & 4 and i cant wait to lose hours and hours into Starfield. I think i have done @ 15 planets so far, so only another 985 to go.

I won't do many planets, there is little point. I don't think there will be anything interesting to discover outside of the handcrafted areas.

You sure do like pretending you know what you're talking about :p I have spent quite a bit of time optimising Unreal titles, FWIW. The idea that 5.2 or 5.x or whatever is going to 'fix' stuttering is pretty hilarious.
I'm simply stating what was discussed in the articles and interviews with Epic discussing UE5. Whether the info in those articles is correct or not I cannot say, but the fact that they quote Epic staff workig on the engine is why I bothered to pay attention to those pieces. The fact that it keeps happening only with Unreal Engine games tells a lot, and only when a dev has then put in the time (usually through weeks/months of patching) are the issues fixed.

Not so sure. I think they have learned a lot from the mistakes of Cyberpunk. They were so well regarded and hugely damaged their reputation and dropped from grace. They have had to work hard to repair that and even now it is not fully repaired.

Do you think for the sake of months/weeks that it would take to fix the issues you mentioned they will release it early again?

As for Red engine, how do you know it is in a good place? We just get to see the end result, but god knows how much plastering over the cracks they have had to do. It is probably at its limits.

They obviously know a thing or two about game development and made the informed decision that UE5 is better and will allow them to move forward and make the game they envisioned.

That's my take on it anyway. I am glad they moved to it and looking forward to Cyberpunk sequel.
RED Engine is very well optimised in its current state though, CPU threads are evenly utilised so multi threading is excellent, GPU utilisation is scaled very well too and stuttering essentially is non existent. the same could not be said for months after launch where it felt like a right mess, with Witcher 3 Next Gen also suffering the same issues. Even on my old 3080 Ti the game at late state was running really well with ray tracing enabled, and only really fell short once path tracing came out but that's to be expected on a GPU below 4080/4090.

I agree the turnaround CDPR have done to fix the reputation they had has been mind blowing, but only time will tell if past experiences have been used as learning experiences. We;ve seen time and time again where developers appear to have not learned anything from past issues in multiple games the last few years, Cyberpunk isn't alone in the issues department.

No debating that Cyberpunk doesn't look prettier and perform better - just stating that it released in a terrible state and took nearly three years of post-launch patching to get to the point that Starfield is at launch.

And Cyberpunk still has plenty of bugs - models still occasionally t-pose, exploding cars still drop out of the sky for seemingly no reason and mysteriously floating objects can be found all over Night City - nothing that ruins the gameplay but to say CP is 'bug-free' is just plain inaccurate.

32:9 works with a couple of ini file changes. Check my post on the mods thread.

Indeed. I think we all expected a bit more from Bethesda than what we got. But a bit silly of us in hindsight I guess as they just mainly work on gameplay rather than graphics.

They really should have had HDR working though. It's approaching the tail end of 2023 ffs.

Sort out HDR and some of the crappy PS3 textures in places and it will look good enough for me. Probably will be left to the mods to do and they will sort it out for their Special Edition where they want you to upgrade to it in the future.

Apart from the above my other disappointment so far has been the space aspect of it. Now I was not expecting anything like Star Citizen. But what I was expecting is something like Freelancer.

I guess they made the decision that people would get too frustrated with the travel in space and dumbed it down. Disappointing :(

The companions were kind of dull tbh, I interacted with all of them but they seem like a pretty boring group of people with no personality, the explorer dude seemed ok.

Did my second playthrough recently and really enjoyed it again going for the Slow mo melee build was satisfying after being inspired by Edgerunners lol. The 4090 ploughs through this game now with RT and DLSS enabled, enabling FG is another story altogether.

Classy of Bethesda to limit game review copies in order to keep the metacritic score artificially high.

Not getting great reviews, as expected.

Learning from previous betsheda titles, wait a few months for them to sort out the issues due to engine and such before one buys.

I will see how it goes. I may or may not. Depands on if I am enjoying doing it or not. 1000 is a lot and unless they have found a way to keep it interesting then I will just look up a guide where people have found the worth visit/must see places.

I don't think you are understanding what I am saying. You are looking at the end result.

What I am saying is you do not know what they have had to do to reach that. Maybe they have had to do a lot of hack jobs and pushed the engine to it's limits to get what we have now.

I assume for a sequel you will want improvements? Maybe the only way is moving to UE5.

They dumbed it down way too much to the point where you do no space travelling at all. It's a teleport fest going from one place to another.

I want to fly my ship around the planets, explore around the atmosphere and land and explore some more. Just not getting that all.

It's more of a grounded FPS RPG with some space stuff attached to it as an after thought. Shame really as it makes the whole ship building aspect of the game a little pointless imo.

Yep. Way to dumbed down. Shame. But at the end of the day if the other aspects of the game is good enough I will not let that stop me from enjoying the game.

I won't be spending too long ship building and this is partly the reason. I so far upgraded one part of my ship and saving up to buy one which is much better.

Who knows though, maybe I will do it later on. Depends on how it goes and if the game has legs once you complete it. Some say it does. We shall see.
