***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

yeah I was running around planets in scan mode permanently using the laser to zap everything, free laser SMG basically. Then for harder stuff or humans come out of scan mode and it'll flip to your other weapon

But the instinct isn't to go and cut it, it's more like a oh its another sealed off unreachable so move on.
I guess I'm just different then heh. In games I try all sorts of weird stuff for testing so do things like this all the time.

Yeah i think i need to change the way i think when playing Starfield. See what other good janky things are hiding in plain sight lol.

Given that in most other games that signage on doors and stuff say various things, you never think past "oh that's interesting" because almost always, nothing can be done as they're just textures :p

This doesn't stop me from trying.

I'm assuming that any performance issues are down to limitations or inherent attributes of the game engine.
Also, based on the benchmarks, Starfield appears to perform much better on Radeon as opposed to Nvidia (due no doubt to that partnership).

I agree with you to an extend, the game isn't ugly but some of the textures are really questionable when you look at them up close. It really doesn't warrant the low fps in this game, it should be much higher than it is.

I think most if not all of the issues with performance are due to memory bandwidth issues as mentioned by destructoid.

As he put it the game scales the same as the Aida64 benchmark which makes no sense at all.

Even with a top of the line CPU a 4090 is under used considerably, allowing a 7900XTX to beat it across the board in Starfield.

Now the under use issue can be sorted with driver optimisation, but the serious scaling problems with memory bandwidth is a Bethesda problem and likely am issue with the engine.

I’m still enjoying it but the more I play the more I’m not enjoying it all the loading screens and pointless areas that serve no purpose are getting a bit tiresome. Tbh I think Outer worlds was a better game.

It really lacks that grip that Fallout and Skyrim had for me. I’m not hooked and have found myself playing other games in between like Baldur gate.

It's not a bug it's a feature.
Also from that article:

VG247: "Honestly, though, so far it's looking like Starfield is pretty solidly built, so any bugs that are there don't seem to be ones that are causing many players too much grief."

Also, it's worth remembering that when Skyrim, an Elder Scrolls game and Bethesda's 'crown jewel' launched, the dragons (the game's unique selling point and heavily featured in the marketing) flew backwards.

Even with XBox's QA and technical support, I'm astonished and delighted that Starfield's launched as polished as it is.

I mean, its obviously PR spin and I doubt that he truly believes that (bet he wouldnt say that off the record for example), but thats a feeble way to try and make having bugs an acceptable thing. Not that it sounds like there are all that many bugs in Starfield anyway but to just say well bugs are ok because its player freedom and shows we are taking more risks, is reductive about bugs. The aim should be freedom and risks without bugs, not just wave away bugs in a game as acceptable because.

This is pretty cool actually:

I swear to god sometimes i wonder if I actually have a brain. I was looking at these yesterday and thought ‘well you must be able to cut thru these but with what?’ - MAYBE THE THING CALLED CUTTER IN YOUR INVENTORY YOU HALFWIT

Yes. This confirms what I said...

Plenty of outlets have had the chance to review it now (heck, anyone can play it now) and the critical consensus is that it's a great game. Since I'm currently playing it, I can also confirm that yes, it's a great game.
Being great is subjective though. To one person it might be great, to another it might merely be adequate. I'm holding off on my opinion until I actually get to play it.

True, but @Django x2 is trying to spin a narrative that somehow this game has been widely critically panned - which clearly isn't true.

I'd expect more negative reviews to surface, just as I'd expect more positive reviews to surface but it looks like the 87 on Metacritic and 88 on OpenCritic will likely stand so irrespective of whether you or I like the game, clearly the majority of critics (for what that's worth) like it.

I'm interested to see where it sits on Steam once people can post their reviews - I'm expecting a 'Very Positive'.
