I think the most baffling one to me is the filter thing that everyone is removing with the reshades and so on, I dont seem to see a single person who doesnt think it looks far better without that green/grey tint to everything. Which just makes me wonder how it is that nobody at Bethesda pointed it out and that it should be removed. Maybe the studio is full of yes men who dont want to rock the boat, I dont know, but its odd to me when something is SO widely agreed upon to be a bad thing but somehow it was kept in.

It’s a strange one, especially at a time of OLEDs where contrast is more important than ever. I’m looking at the dark side of a planet that’s washed out and grey.

The downgrade is real

Things I've noticed: nearby geometry detail was lowered, character facial quality lowered, global shadow quality lowered and global lighting quality lowered

Also in 2022 the game didn't have the blue/grey color filter, the art director that decided to introduce the color filter deserves to be fired, this isn't 2007 anymore, f off with that ****

Yeah, I was running around in a mine earlier and my entire screen had this beige look to it, even when I was looking into pure darkness.

The more I play this game (35 hours in) the more I think it should have been built on UE or something.

First things first, I'm only at level 5, but loving it. Honestly didn't want to go to work today and would happily become a hermit for a few weeks just playing this. That's not happened in a while.

But..... the first minute of the game I was disappointed, and was straight to the Internet to see if it was an actual bug in the game. The first minutes should be perfect in any game of this magnitude, yet I was given a perfect black title screen, to a washed out game. I don't know how anyone working on this game would think this is acceptable.

Yup, this is exactly how space should look:

Different scene where the sun was right behind me so obviously this side will be completely lightened up:

Just looking at the thumbnail, that's lighting that's creating that difference.

Artistic style would be my best guess. Or they're using it in the same way film grain is used. To hide other issues, normally due to support older consoles :D

Lol this should be pinned or something, the difference is beyond just art style, the light sources are literally washed out completely to the point that they do not dazzle like they should (and do in the 2022 demo) - the textured gloss and light bounce of f weapons in the 2022 vs the murky washed out fade of the 2023 etc etc.

Edit*
Those looking for other games as alternatives:

Space Engine looks amazing.

Reminds of the cp 2077 2d cars in the distance, which got loads of **** ;)

I'll be honest, Starfield does look really bad in some places.

If the light is moody and there are reflections and atmosphere - it looks okish.. But out in the open air in well lit areas, it looks really bad...

It looks flat, the textures look very low res, things like trees and grass look like they're from a doom.wad in places.

So - I won't be playing at unlock as 1am is not doable BUT I want to install some mods in advance... Which ones are deemed essential and could I download them like now?

Also, do they stop achievements working as I will be on the gamepass version.

Will get to spin it up on peasentpass tomorow, if it plays OK then we'll see if it can hold my attention.
Somewhat put off by the supposed heavy bias to inventory management and loading screens shared in some reviews.... but then some of the enviroments look fun to experience.

I wonder how many preordered on steam to play early and then refunded for the gamepass launch as apparently you can refund any time in early access.

Got to level 16 now with 18ish hours played. Did some exploring and a mission on Mars before deciding I wanted to get out there and hit some other solar systems and do some if the missions I have. After doing some bounty ones I ended up on a planet that is:

like read dead redemption in that it's a western. Did not expect that :D

Also killed some pirates in space. Good session overall :D

Does anyone know how to remove an outpost link? I want to change the order storage is linked but I don't see any way of doing it without deleting the item and recrafting.

Edit.

Aim at the connecting line. It'll highlight when you're bang on it and give you the option to delete. I wasn't seeing it before as I was only using the top down view which has poor accuracy for the controls.

Now days there is zero incentive to pre order games. Zero. Wait for them to release and see the reviews and reaction.

To make pre-ordering worth while give us 20% off the price of the game at least.
