Oh yeah, first entering Akila I couldn't help but compare it against my memory of Ratchet & Clank's sandy outpost areas. The distinct difference in colouring and level of detail is quite staggering, and Akila was running at 74fps... Why! :o

I've not played Ratchet and Clank, not really my bag but must say that does look pretty

Which simply highlights my point that its not 86%, you can see clearly in the screenshot that its a total of 22,010 reviews, 18,108 positive and 3,902 negative. Which works out as 82.27% positive. Not 86%. So really, we should go by the actual mathematical percentage rather than the displayed percentage on games I guess. I mean, if I like or dislike a game then my thoughts on that are no more/less important in terms of percentage calculation whether I bought the game on Cdkeys or not. I'm still writing a review, so its in the reviews sections on games, so when calculating the percentage positive/negative of the reviews it should be included.
Which is all fair enough - although it's academic as the number Steam shows for it will be the one that sticks.

And I believe the reason Steam does this is to prevent shady devs giving away keys for positive reviews - in order for your review to 'count' you have to have purchased the game on Steam.

Bit harsh for people who have got a key free with buying a CPU/GPU though and want their review to count :)

You're right about the shown number being the one that sticks, I still think it will continue to drop through the coming days though (it was 89% this morning and has trickled down to 86 so far) , I still maintain that it will settle at something between 75 and 83 for the immediate future, then down the line as mods get added, it will rise back up again to the high 80s, maybe even very low 90s

Seems like the "main" planets are hand made and the barren and filler planets are procedural, similar to Elite but on a much smaller scale. But if it's always generated using the same seed it will always be the same.

Not sure why they didn't just go and generate a whole galaxy (like Elite did) as it isn't much more work or overhead to do that. That way the game feels effectively borderless.

They've talked about this in interviews and I don't fully remember the answer. Sections are hand crafted with most of it being generated as it's awfully time intensive to hand craft entire planets etc.

I personally think it's better they didn't make a huge galaxy, it would have added a lot more time to the project to make those extra systems interesting.

Thought that 1st screenshot was from an older game for a second, like fallout 4 or something :D

Are the planets fully traversable, or is it just certain sections of planets? Thought they would have had vehicles for exploration when on planets.

A little buggy or something would be something I'd love them to add, or a landspeeder type of thing, though maybe that would simply serve to highlight the area boundaries so maybe, though its a bit of a trudge walking around, it makes more sense to not have vehicles

So after getting to level two this morning and killing the pirate leader - before leaving i decided to walk the 700 mtrs to an "unknown structure". This was mainly due to several reviews I read that said "exploration is rewarded" in Starfield.

This turned out to be an abandoned distribution centre. Only it wasnt abandoned - it was full of level 17 killers.

It took me around 15 mins of strafing and running to finally grind them all down to nothing (as well as using every health pack i had) only to find the only things worht taking on them was some ammo and a few crits - would it have killed Bethesda to at least included on rare or something. Total waste of time..

The XP was rubbish as well.

I think some devs are just better at graphics and optimization. I mean Rockstar got RDR2 to work on an Xbox One. Thats about the equivalent of a 10th gen i3 and a 1060. Somehow, bethesda can't get this to run well on series X or (relatively) on a 4080/4090 and the latest cpus.

I cannot see any reason for how demanding the game is. I think they are perhaps just constrained by engine limitations and need a new one...or simply talent.

One thing I have found is you can scan (e) unknown markers on the planet to find out what type they are. Even though the scan open is greyed out.

Caves, Structure etc. with the icon telling you the type further. ie. It'll say Structure but will have a military symbol.

It's annoying that basic actions like using the booster pack on your back are locked behind perks you need to enable. Even using targeting missiles on your ship and other stuff are perked. Was wondering all this time why I could not boost my way around on the moon lol.

Also, I'm now a Freestar ranger after sorting out a negotiation situation on Akila, guess most of my next few hours in the game will be spent doing bounty missions which get me out and about the solar system

Unless you want to play zero-g physics games with a pile of trash dropped on the floor on a moon then set off a grenade on them :D

I've also noted some new bugs I mean features

And lastly this was cruel, but necessary...

The flastlight just kills me, i couldn't do it.. it would distract me too much LOL.

Can you become a Freestar ranger and a UC Vanguard at the same time? Cos im already a Vanugard and passed my exam on that but wondering if i can become both since... you know they don't get along lol.
