Great video.

We are 3 months away and we dont even know stuff like what the currency in game is and most importantly, if its moddable...

What about land vehicles? is there any?

When modding your ship, does it affect your handling?

How does the landing on planet work? can you land literally anywhere and walk across the whole planet(if you wanted to)?

Lots of questions...

Currency, on the official video you can see the player collecting "credits" the currency will almost certainly work like any other Fallout/Skyrim etc

I doubt there will be vehicles.

Modding ship affects handling, probably not, I don't see this as a big deal either way.

I'm guessing landing will be approach planet, click a button and it will land in a pre determined area. I would very much doubt the flying section will be as free as they say, I'm thinking NMS , maybe even less than that.

You gotta realise this will be a re-skinned Fallout 4/Skyrim, with a flying section that probably won't be very good stuck in between.

I don't think we can expect it to do much more.

Bethesda have a good format that I can't see them changing much, it wouldn't make sense either seen as they effectively have the thing built already from prior games.

I think my main fear is how they explain the proceedurally generated worlds, that you can have "1000's" or whatever.

Well, you are not having human developers making those maps for those 1000's of worlds, so I suspect, and the video kind of elludes to this anyway, is that the planet will be proceedurally generated, and there will then be a set number of assets, so like a mining base, pirate base, and NPC aliens etc etc etc, that will be human designed and built. You'll land on a planet, the terrain generates then you'll get a random assets, slapped in somewhere from a set pool.

Literally just like NMS.

What I loved, about particularly Fallout 4, but 76 and Skyrim is the detail they put into the maps. Specifically Fallout 4 there are tons of unnamed locations on the map that if you explore the game enough you'll find. Little set peices etc - that the developers put in, and there is a lot of creativity behind it. Loads of these dont even have any purpose for the game at all, they are just there. But stuff like that is so cool.

I get no real pleasure out of walking around an empty biome, or one clearly generated from a set pool of assets just jumbled up in different orders.

I hope they have the Fallout 4 style map/or maps, with the planets being an extension of this, EG you need to go to this planet to kill an enemy or mine a certain thing etc, return, but if the majority of the game is based on these planets that could be bad.

It also really needs to have a lot of quests and story in it, because exploration just for the sake of it becomes old quite quickly. I can see a potential for a lot of "generic" quests, EG go here, kill this thing, return etc.

And what about one of the most burning question.

Is it actually moddable?

And why no land vehicles? If you can't freely fly in atmo, at least give us the ability to use a ground vehicle to travel faster between destination within a planet

If it's not moddable, that'll be a big issue for me in the long run.

Bethesda, I rely on them for replayable games. Modding extends that replayability for years.

I can understand if it launches that way, so long as somewhere down the track they enable modding I'm fine with that (I have no idea how it works, I presume they have to release access to certain assets so people can mod? No idea, I'm talking out my backside here)

Then again, I also expect to see a Shop on one of the planets where you can buy Bethesda mods

From what they’ve said it seems to be a case of areas that they’ve built by hand with procedural generation in between. I’m fine with that.

yeyeye I get that.

But I am interested in the ratio I guess is what im saying.

I take you've played No Mans Sky, but if not, that game technically is huge, it would take you over a lifetime to explore everything, even then I think the game can just produce another whole universe on a new save.

But.........the content if you like, in that, is about 99% proceedurally generated with about 1% of actual made assetts, the 1% are just rehashed in different orders to fill those generated areas.

So its an easy win in a way, to say we have 1000's of planets, but if out of all of that, only 1% of it is human made assetts, you've saved a ton of resources to make in theory a huge explorable area, BUT..... like in NMS is gets old, really quickly.

Where as if you have 1 planet, instead of 1000's, but you've spent a ton of time really putting nice details into that one planet, you arguably got the better deal.

Is that making any sense at all?

Cough cough star citizen with it's one star system...

You just described star citizen by the way and the reason why it feels like you get a much better deal then in nms or elite dangerous.

This is why star citizen doesn't need to have 100 star systems for it to feel like you can explore unique places, that one star system already sees a lot of uniqueness to it and that's just 4 planets and more then a dozen of moons.

I'm almost positive in the interview it was said the characteristics of ships do change with components. Hence being able to have wee fighters Vs space trucks.

Soon⟨™⟩

They took it off sale to bump the price up with an announcement expected soon.

Mine is paid for from 10 years ago. Lol

But ******** apparently split the game into two and want to charge me for the second half. Greedy *****. The first half better be long and not just 10 hours or something.

Was for me. I am in around £40 profit plus have both StarCitizen and Squadron 42 paid for with all that life insurance stuff after selling a special AMD ship I got from a promo for a juicy amount

What! When was that?! I invested in 2 ships, one during alpha launch and then more recently and also bought a mule for giggles so i could park it in my said ship lol!. Same, when i first pledged i did get a lot for my money and didn't exactly pay a lot either. I just wish this game would finally finish and come out and then patched with regular updates.

Look at similar games.

Elite Dangerous / Horizons / Odyssey. (ED/O) a little limited in its MP aspect, you can load in to a gunner seat of your mates ship, when you do you are a floating camera attached to his ship, you're not in something that you would describe as a turret, ED ships don't really have that, you can follow him in your own ship and do stuff together in separate ships, i think its only up to 4 in a party?

NMS, similar thing to that.

The problem with those games is they have disguised load-screen and fade to black loading, you can only load your group between 'maps?' when you're in a designated loading node, think Left4Dead2 where you all have to be in that room at the end of the level with the door closed, a moving ship for example cannot be that, its moving. its never where the server last saw it.

This seems to have a lot more disguised load-screen and fade to black loading than both of those ^^^^ games, i'm pretty sure i saw fade to black loading on you entering buildings on the planet you apparently just landed on.
I don't know how much modders can do to make that MP, but one thing IMO is for certain, like EDO and NMS you're not going to be running around in your mates ship.
