***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I will be honest..I will buy it, its not really a choice for me at this stage....I sucked up multiple versions of skyrim adn have thousands of hours in fallout 4 ( I didnt buy 76 though!)

the only question for me is will I need a new graphics card!

only specs I have seen are for minimum... I have a 5800x3d and a 3070

I suspect I am going to need a 4070ti for ultra at 1440p

Wait until the game comes out and you have an idea of how different hardware performs, if you were into modding the earlier games and plan to do the same I suspect VRAM is going to be a consideration over time too.

Yes, can't see 12GB VRAM being enough at 1440P even with modest modding.

Fallout 76 isnt bad now.

I only got it around 6 months ago, I dunno something like that. I only paid about £15 for it, maybe less.

If you can get it off a key site for about that I'd say its well worth a go, might tide you over until Starfield. I am into it for 400 hours although I have just about hit a wall with it now.

In other words:

"He's a youtuber"

Always suspected some radio DJs talk like they they get paid by the word, but youtubers are worse!

A huge number of youtubers and streamers are little more than cult of personality style advertisers, either for themselves or whatever company happens to be sponsoring them.

This might be of interest:

Interesting that (as per Alex's observations) there seems to be zero hardware RT in use on the console versions - shadows are screen-space and reflections are cube-mapped with the global illumination likely either probe-based, cube-mapped, or a combination of both. VRAM aside, I doubt Starfield will be too taxing on the GPU and should run equally well on AMD - it looks like CPU is going to be the major performance limiter here.

I wonder when we will get some information on landings and planetary traversal, I'm not expecting Elite levels of immersion (though I'd love it if it was) but some details would be nice.

I'm guessing of course, but I think it'll be minimal. In fact I think the whole space section will be pretty basic, just as a go between locations.

Yeh, but is it going to be landings limited to established ports or will we be able to chose a spot anywhere on the planet? The fact that they have given zero details makes me think it's either super basic or being saved for another gameplay reveal, strongly suspect the former but not sure why they haven't shown anything yet.
