***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

On the star map, no not really, on the system maps the trading locations etc have little icons over the planets.

And if you build an outpost you get an icon.

There are not that many you need to remember though.

Off the top of my head, Sol for Cydonia, Alpha Centuri for New Atlantis, Volli for Neon, Cheyenne for Akila City.

Those are the main locations and have all the major traders.

Don’t forget The Den if you ever need to sell anything dodgy :p

Not sure if I am missing something, but is there an easy way to find a location you have already visited ? Or are you supposed to remember which city is on which planet ?

The big main city's or other key locations on the main star map view have a small icon next to there name, in below pic to the left of the blue hexagon. In general for star systems not names, you can tell as the star is a brighter colour if you have visited the system., Within a system, in top left hand corner when it brings up the system details it will colour in any planets or moons you visited in that system. Outposts you build also get a small icon similar, but not exact same on the galaxy map.

Finally completed it. Level 53 with approximately 78 hours on the clock :D

Too tired for a mini review, but will do when I get the chance.

Cyberpunk here I come :D

I found going ahead with NG+ resetting the universe but naturally at a higher player level has been well worth it.

The game scaling is clearly designed for it. Rewards are better inc credits and replaying selective quest lines stays fresh enough

Game is just go here talk to someone, then go here and kill a bunch of people. I did all the missions for Ryujin Industries and my god it was so boring and so much walking and travelling. It was painful. Going into the map for fast travel every 2 minutes and having to tab a billion times, the game is just boring?

Will be putting this down now, the beginning of the main story is poor as well.

and then after all the hours to do all the missions, what reward did I get? A mission board for yet more boring missions and an office (that they don't even tell you where it is by the way) that you can do sod all in! completely not worth it

Am I missing something with contraband/smuggling?

There doesn't appear to be any place you get significantly more money for it, so why bother trying to smuggle or hide it etc? You can just take it to the Den and not bother with all that.

I feel like I must be missing something though otherwise I don't really see the point in the contraband mechanic at all. Maybe the developers just kind of forgot.

Indeed, going to the Den makes the whole thing pointless. I have forgotten that I have had it onboard and been arrested for it on Akilla and NA, I just stole it all back while in jail though....very pointless.

Oh I also forgot that my outfit was stolen so after I was arrested my dude was jogging around in his skivvies.

Yeah I did that to briefly to see what's what. But I have loads of credits (1.5 mil) anyway. Already got 3 houses and one of the best ships.

Don't fancy starting new. But will do for my next playthough in a few years time. For now I have a save just before I went into the unity. Will carry on from there and do the dlc when it comes out.

I will be moving onto Cyberpunk now. But still see myself playing this on the side exploring, getting more of the powers and doing activities as I fancy. Should reach 100 hours before I am done done with the game :D

Lots of things like that just tacked on but very lazily. Shame.

I think the game needed 1-2 more years dev time to reach my expectations. They really needed to do the space stuff much better.

Overall I enjoyed the game. Kept me wanting more. But towards the end it did fizzle out and that is because the main quests were kind of weak overall. Only a few good missions in there. I enjoyed the side quests much more.

I will give it an 8 out of 10 due to fun factor and it making me want to keep coming back.

It honestly needed to do much better for it to match the hype. It does not feel like a big budget 2023 game. Maybe a big budget 2016 game or something.

Why is the space stuff so barebones? Big let down I would say.

The strengths of the game come from it being a fallout type game where you go out there and do what you want. I got most my fun doing this. If you just installed it and did main quests only you did it wrong. If I did that my score would drop to 7 or less maybe.

So yeah, overall fun. Well worth my £40 for the premium edition. Still got dlc to come which is paid for. Will still play it even after nearly putting in 80 hours already. But in 2023 I expected more from such a big budget game.

With mods and dlc it will only get better though so there is that :)

When i was reading about being able to get scanning jammers/being able to hide it, i genuinally thought you could take it on a planet where it was illegal and then sell it for much higher than you get at the Den...

But seemingly no, which is weird.

I know there are not that many main cities, but for example I was trying to remember where Neon City was for a quest, and it took me a while to find it as I couldn't remember which planet it was on. I can imagine it will only get worse as I progress through the game and unlock more planets.

Only thing I have seen is getting shielding for your cargo. So you can land on the planet. After that you can sell it to the trade authority which are on most places there are shops.

All major planets have a trade authority on them. But say you pare landing at neon. There is security scanners there which you would have to find a way around.

Surely as long as you dont get pinged by the orbital patrols you should just be able to land, leave the contraband on the ship, pass security and go to the Trade Authority and "sell from ship inventory"? I've never tried selling contraband there but frequently use Neon to sell stolen goods. Its ideal as it has a good cluster of shops, so you can just bounce between them until you get rid of your plunder.

I have noticed that you can generally predict when you are going to get pinged by a search. If you try to fast travel to a UC/FC run system and it dosnt allow you to fast travel straight to your chosen location (if you chose a specific planetside location), its pretty much certain they will search on arrival at the planet.

Yesterday i got a pop up message before travelling to jemison telling me i have contraband and am i sure i want to travel. I had recently installed several shielded cargo holds on the narwhal and made sure all my contraband was in the ships cargo so clicked yes. Got there and, much to my annoyance, it tells me i only have a 59% chance to evade the scan. They confiscated the lot. Not once have i ever managed to flog my hooky gear, get my collar felt every time

Just go to the den, no scans too avoid

Go to jail, wait until they aren't looking then loot the trunks in the jail, contraband on the planet with no fine to pay easy peasy.

I have done that on both Akila and New Atlantis so far.

I do have to get a suit that isn't stolen though, they always take it off me and I forget to re equip it.

Yeah i need to remember to do that. I often forgot i had contraband prior to getting shielded cargo.

I did consider this but was scared of getting caught due to my previous bounties. Although I’ve just thought i can use the manipulation thingy to get the guard to bugger off anyway.

Bounty is easy.
Find a random unoccupied moon, planet
Place an outpost
Place a bounty terminal
Pay bounty
Delete both (get resources back)

No check at the Den, sold plenty there right from the early levels.

100 hours in now, still only level 38, but can’t say I’m too worried.

I’ve avoided any genuine spoilers and have only referred the internet only when I had a specific question that seemed reasonable to a future internet would have, eg where to find a city in the know universe. After all, you’d expect there to be a future version of Google maps.

For a ship, I built a Class C, and which seems to be fairly effective.
To answer an earlier question that I posed, I’m using an Xbox emulator to allow me to use my HOTAS for the space combat.

45 minutes in. Going to give it a few hours to reserve judgement. But man alive mouse scroll wheel key binding annoying the hell out of me. Why is it not weapon select. Instead it changes camera view lol. I keep trying to cycle a weapon and end up zooming in and out of 3rd person. :p
