***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I assume ship selling becomes a lot more lucrative once you start levelling up your commerce perks.

Not really. Lol.

I might be missing something here but I boarded a ship the other day, on the ground before they took of, and claimed it as mine. Now, wasn't going to keep it but is this really right ? I pay 9,7k credit to have it registered so I can sell it for 11,6k credit ?? (See spoiler for picture)

From comment in this thread it seems it suppose to be good money to take over ships and then sell them on ?? Because 1,9k credits don't seem worth it, unless of course once I register the ship the sale value going to change, because I just screen the price and canceled before logging out !

On another note, can you break down weapons and space suits for parts ?? I have not seen such a function but thought I ask in case I'm missing something ?

I thought the same. Stopped stealing ships after that. Only worth it if you want the ship for yourself.

Yeah, this is so counter-intuitive to anyone steeped in previous BGS games! I spent the first hour of the game picking up everything to try to break them down for resources. A habit powerfully ingrained from FO76! But, nope, everything you don't actually want to use yourself just seems to be vendor trash.

I didn't find resources too hard to come by when I needed them, although I could have happily done without the waiting to refresh vendor stocks of adhesive and polymer. I've upgraded three advanced weapons now, and weapon engineering has been incredibly useful in making powerful custom guns. A high powered armour piercing suppressed scoped Beowulf, a Magshear that is hard to feed with ammo but is bascially now an instant "delete enemy" button, and an AA-99 with explosive rounds. A bit OP maybe.

It means I don't really need resources at all now, though. Unless I try spacesuit design as well. Not sure if that gives such powerful bonuses or not.

It still feels wrong just leaving loot lying around (and there is SO MUCH junk and random stuff), but any item not worth over 10k doesn't seem worth carting around anymore.

I played on hard difficulty and did not feel the need to upgrade any weapon or armour/spacesuit. I also did not build or upgrade any items or do any research. That aspect just bored me rigid. I even stopped using the skill points it became that pointless. I think I ended the game with 15 unassigned skill points.

Though I always play my RPGs like this. If I’m forced to make a camp or base build for some quest I just move on and let the NPCs fend for themselves. There have been a few RPGs that force this aspect on you in order to progress. I tend to drop those like a hot potato, so thankfully Starfield took the stance of leaving the choice to the player.

I don’t mind if I have to add a gem/unobtainium to a staff/weapon to improve stats, but faffing about with workbenches and base building can get stuffed.

same here, stole lots of ships to make some cash, but after registration fee its pointless, not also that but profit margins are off the scale for the retailers, on everything in the game, these retailers must have the biggest margins in the world, literally 10times what they buy for

A man after my own heart.

Though I do generally enjoy levelling up and spending skill points.

It's a shame you've been disincentivized to explore the crafting mechanics since there's a number of decent upgrades there - but I get it - the way the skill system works, it's a big ask to expect players to sink that much time and energy into unlocking stuff.

Even worse is that you're essentially penalized for not spending your skill points as you earn them - since you still have to do the challenges in order to unlock higher tiers, if you decide you want to sink four of your spare points into maxing out a skill, you wouldn't be able to spend them all until you'd grinded out the relevant tasks - ugh

For me, the skill system is the biggest flaw this game has.

Yeah. I have said many times and will again. Why oh why not use a improved fallout 3 system? Just that one thing alone would have made my experience so much better and kept me playing longer.

Played quiet a few hours in my NG+10 which is my main game, but flipped back to mg First run-through to mop up an achievement, made me realise how wonky the powers you get scale. So many are really pitiful at base level 1 (outside a few utility ones) but at NG+10 become something you can very much use as part of combat. Even basic ones like Grav dash, something you can actually use when trans versing the landscape to speed it up (though this just shows how lack of ground vehicles are a pain). Really wish they had another system for the power aspect too.

If they can fix ship ladders/door routes, DLSS and fov I'd be happy. I've gone too far with my gun skills coz I can take out most enemies with a single shot from 100 meters away. I've now got 2000 cargo in my ship half filled with pointless crap should I need it to make a scope or research. I don't have much more left now, just a few random skills I wish I could reallocate.

I might start a new game (madness) not sure yet. I am on play through 1.5 at the moment.

Remember in Doom 3 when you could walk up to a screen and interact with it? Why not have all that in this game, with the crazy hi-def ship systems?

I'm still playing my first run (didn't do NG+) and the only powers I really get any use out of are personal atmosphere, precognition and time phase but wow - time phase makes pretty much all boss encounters a breeze - can't imagine the powers getting even more potent

Still enjoying what time I have to play. Just the crimson fleet quest to finish off then I guess the main quest line. May then put it down until it gets patched a bit more. UC still the best quest line for me so far.

I'm going through the UC Vanguard quests and I am actually really enjoying this quest line, better than expected. The twists are good fun and the plot thickens enough to keep the engagement there. Going to try an outpost tonight or just go find enemy ships to steal and sell for next to nothing.

If anyone is interested I done a little list. Is is not complete (eg not all resources on each location is listed) mainly because there is no need to duplicate.

But might find useful, few hours there anyway:

/snip

Great list, now if you could just write what star system they are all in as I had to google earlier where neon was because I have the memory of a gold fish it seems! :p

You can save a few credits by registering it by yourself in the ship screen rather than at the ship merchants.
And to also save on the faff of taking off in your newly stolen ship and then finding your home ship has changed to it. Sit in the seat (without taking off) then get up and fast travel back to your actual home ship and sit in that. It'll keep your main ship as home and add the new ship to your fleet.

Only just decided to unlock a skill that requires me to kill 5 ships (then 10 then a bajillion) despite the fact I've killed hundreds of ships already... can't it even keep track of things I've done in game.

PLus the Concealment skill. what the actual...? I have to do another bajillion kills via melee.... I don't even own a melee weapon and to top it off they need to be stealth attacks! I only want the skill to help with my sniper rifles.. the complete opposite of the skill challenges.
I ended up cheesing it using that poor doctor on New Atlantis that can be stealth attacked forever without him dying.

I've just hovered over the skill as I want it for my new playthrough... I need an extra 8 skills points in Physical before i can unlock it. I don't want anything in physical...I've maxed out the stealth skill. Now to pick 8 random crap skills once I get 8 more skill level ups....

For the ship kills I just went to the simulator after joining UC in the MAST district of NA. Can play and kill 5-6 at a time, leave the sim then go in again, yeah its a bit of a grind but better than looking for real battles.

Set your game to very easy, hack the terminal after starting the sim (get in the chair, wait until first ship spawns, get out) and give yourself repeated power ups. No need to spawn allies (you can spawn two) and you can get 15 kills per run.

Personal atmosphere is wonderful for me as i always end up encumbered with stuff before running back to my ship!
