***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I think one of the main problems for me is that there really aren't any notable or likable characters in the game. Which....isn't good for a massive RPG like this.

Everyone in Constellation is irritating, especially Sarah. Andreja is the only one I can stand to come around with me.

Also, why is everyone a humourless **** with a degree in psychology. Almost everytime you choose the "joke" response you get some pyschobabble about you deflecting your true feelings through humour.

They just haven't made a very likable universe.

The models look pretty good to me, like all the computer consoles inside and things. It's characters, environments and towns that let it down for me. Though NEON is quite nice looking.

The armour etc looks great, and as you say, the interiors look good. The faces/hair etc of the main characters is ok, but the non important NPC's look awful in places. The animation is generally poor I feel. Textures are generally pretty impressive.

Exterior wise, it can definitely look very flat in the wrong lighting.

They clearly made no effort with water. The water In the game genuinely looks ps3 era, and I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that.

This wouldn't be so bad if performance was great, but it's not. Even then, I could forgive the performance if it truly was an open world game, but it's not!! You have to go through a loading screen just to go into a shop!

That's the biggest let down for me as well. Switch over to something like CP2077 and you get invested in some characters almost right away.

Yeah the characters are awful.

Agree with you there.

Not on the same subject, but anyone found any planets with cosmetic resource? Probably just not looking in the right place but its needed as one of the materials for one of the low level manufacturers and I am struggling to find it.

I appreciate you can just go and buy it, but I am trying to setup autoamted manufacturing so need to be able to harvest it.

Folks, I had been playing this on my Xbox Series X for a while but since you also get the PC version with Gamespass I wanted to try it out on my gaming laptop - its a couple of years old but reasonable enough spec to run Starfield (full fat MaxP RTX2060, not MaxQ), spec below:-

  • Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4/Storage: 2 x Samsung Evo 970 1TB HDD's/1 x 1Tb Data HDD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 Gb

Whether I've got the display settings at high or low (makes no difference) there is a very deliberate and regular patterned stutter every few seconds rendering the game completely unplayable. I've updated to the latest Nvidia 537.42 drivers to no avail.

Any ideas? I made a short video to show it, see below:-

The writing isnt very good. But it's a common theme now :/

"Diversified" development teams mean people get hired who aren't the best at what they do. Those boxes need to get ticked.

I think you need to buy cosmetic from the general type stores, doubt you'll find it on any planet as I don't think its a mineral/plant that you can extract.

Track it in your research centre or workbench. There are cosmetic boxes on planets in random outposts but can't remember if they are part of research or manufacturing components.

Hi,

Can you explain a bit more on that, I don't fully understand. What do you mean by monitoring stuff? Ta!!

Someone else will know, there is software, like MSI afterburner, it'll put a diagnostic overlay on your game in the top left you can watch your FPS, GPU & CPU use, and VRAM.

Stick that on and also HWMonitor on to check the temps so you can see what is going I'm.

I'm guessing you are maxing out your 6gb video ram when you git that stutter.

Don’t want to speak for Budforce but I’m pretty sure he’s referring to resource monitoring software. So essentially something that will report on cpu, gpu, ram, vram usage and othet stats like power draw and temps.

AMD has adrenaline and nvidia has the geforce overlay. There are keyboard shortcuts to bring them up during your game and you can adapt what they show to suit your needs.

Edit: i think you’re on nvidia so it would be alt-z for the overlay. As an aside i also use Argus monitor to monitor my system, although that doesn’t have an overlay to the best of my knowledge it’s a really good little app.

I had this and fixed it using Nvidia Profile Inspector to turn off rBAR

Ship design is madding as it is fun. They need to allow forcing which doors/ladders to access then everything will be allllright.

I accidentally built the bat ship! :) but my constant building ship hab configs from scratch have dwindled my credits so need to do some more missions. I noticed youtubers credits are like 10 million, sooo how does one do that? :)

If you really don't have an SSD/NVME then I'd guess that's your problem.

Yes I think thats why I enjoy the ship building more than the rest of the game. The ships are incredibly detailed, then you land on a planet that was built in 2011, all the trees etc are exactly the same.

The NPC scare is also weird, not sure what they were thinking with some of the game. Just feels like it was all bolted together, or more worryingly knowing that modders will eventually fix a lot of things for them.
