***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Speaking of ship building - does anyone know where I can buy the double-height cockpit (the one with the stairs)? I thought it was Taiyo but I checked out their showroom on Neon and couldn't find it there..?
I think this is Nova Galactic, so Titan should have it. They need more cockpits. I really like that one but wrangling it to link how you want and not have ladders is another matter.

Thanks yeah done and done with the companion sleepy time! just a quick hour, unless I sleep for 48 hours waiting for the shops to have money again. :)

Yeah I like tearing down ships and rebuilding, I usually end up going between Nova Galactic and Deimos/Stroud. I dislike the 2x3 and 3x3 mess hall/cargo as it feels too empty for the number of crew, ditto the brig (there is no one to arrest), but maybe if there were more living quarters and all-in-ones plus more control of doorways and ladders that would open up shipbuilding more.

Have you done NG+? Loads of XP available on refresh. You soon zoom up the levels again even if skipping main quests. Everything scales so you get increased xp, increased reward credits, better rewards more vendor credits etc

Thanks I might try that, I am on NG+ but only once, maybe it's time to go through again.

If you haven't done much lvl 70+ solar system moon surface ship hunting it can be very addictive. Loads of YT guides.

The Ecliptic Claymore II/III which is readily available to find and take is still my go to.

I'll take a look thanks. I did have some board missions recently that gave me some great weapons for a change. Got a monster particle rifle now, put it through the workbench (the whole point of having 3000 cargo! even then I don't have enough nora or something omg lol), there was a bug hunt mission where they built it up a bit and I killed it from so far away that it was a bit of a walk to collect the sample :)

I also like the ship building, but agree it has problems. It's annoying that you can't rotate section, or have a 2 x 3 or 1 x 3, rather then usual 3 x 2 and 3 x 1. I would also be great if you could control where the habs put their connections. I tend to stick to all on one floor, although I did make a good ship with that two-level cockpit: put the top level as entry to a companionway with ops on one side and captain's cabin the other. Everything else on the floor below. I also tend to make ships that have an open bit in the middle. Not the full "can't hit centre mass if there's nothing there", but enough to get a slight edge over attackers above or below. But it turns out that the pathing won't allow a full our-sided open ship - it always blocks the route at one point.

I'm using the Starborn Guardian ship more frequently now. Have just started dumping excess weight items like resources and weapons on the floor in the lower alcoves since nothing resets the Guardian's interior.

Starfield is dead to me.

But honestly been a few weeks now since I played it, completely lost interest.

Hopefully a bit like Fallout 76 the polished finished version will be chalk and cheese to the original release.

Been playing House Flipper, got it on steam sale for £2.09, it's "mildly entertaining" so on par with Starfield then.

Just began my second NG+. Arrived at the Lodge to find Vasco on his own and the rest of Constellation all dead.

Wasn’t expecting that as an alternate universe! However, it was bugged and I had to reload a save pre-Unity and next time around they were all alive instead.

Once more and I’ll have another go at the main quests and the plethora of other missions and factions available.

Not bored yet.

I'm trying to get all of the steam achievements, doing Ng+1 still.

It's starting to feel like an old toothless guy who still orders his steak burned to a crisp, kind of painful, mildly bloody with only the odd bit of flavour to enjoy now and again.

Only 5 or so to go though nnnnnngh must push through.

There is something there that I'm enjoying, in a year or so I think this could be a smashing game, it's just too empty and repetitive.

Still not got to NG+. Working my way through the main quests. I am really bad for getting distracted and I have a minor obsession with jumping to random planets / moons and waiting for an enemy ship to land just so I can run at it and jump in to steal it.

Just going to enter NG+6 this evening. Some observations for those about to embark on the NG+ cycle(s):

You can make a run through very quickly if you don't care about powers. Skip the quest, collect the artifacts, speak to the Starborn, progress to the final artifact in the buried temple, go to Unity. Easy in less than two hours. Think I could probably get it down to inside an hour if I really tried.

It's helpful to start putting skill points into things that will help you make a run with minimal resources (since you start with nothing). For me, this meant adding three levels in pistols since you are guaranteed a good epic pistol at the start of each run (I already had ballistics and rifles). Also, reilience is helpful since you don't want to faff about buying or searching for loads of medpacks.

Shields and engines skills in the tech tree are a good help the ship combat, which gets to be a pain when the enemy ships get to the mid-70s in level and you're still in that awful Guardian. One level in targetting is almost mandatory.

I like a couple of levels in persuade so I can couple them with the paramour in the last level to reliably talk down the hunter/emissary and shorten the end.

Maxing boost pack and boost assault training levels is really useful. Helps to cut down time navigating levels. Plus the time slow effect from assault training level four is amazing for rapid level clearing.

So, route is:
  • Enter The Lodge, skip the quest, grab the weapons from the basement - hope there's something good.
  • Swing by UC Distribution to check their stock and buy ammo for your chosen weapons.
  • Go to Vlad's Villa and pick the lock downstairs with the conveniently laid out digipicks. Grab The Mutineer.
  • Collect all the artifacts by fast travelling from the ground to each planet.
  • Speak to Sarah, speak to the Starborn.
  • Go to Masada, fight off Helix/Scorpius.
  • Fight to the temple, talk down the final enemy.
  • Either run around collecting powers or build the armillary and go to the Unity again. (It's best to wait until you have all the artifacts to start collecting powers, since then Vlad will move to The Lodge and it's quicker to get to him there each time than in The Eye.)

The powers start geting really good at level IV/V. Really help speeding through the levels. I'm mostly using sense star stuff, personal atmosphere, sunless space and phased time. Also tend to chuck out a parallel self at the start of the big final level battles to start thinning enemy numbers.

Might just get the final Guardian ship in a couple more runs and then wait for DLC. Don't think I can be bothered to do 10 runs for maxed powers...

Why would you voluntarily complete a game 6 times 6 weeks? I don't get it.
Well, there's a challenge in making my runs efficient and seeing how powers change as they get higher level. Six times sounds a lot, but at less than two hours each run, it's not that much. You also get to upgrade your ship, suit and powers each run, which opens up new mechanics to play with. As I'm not ready to get stuck into another game just yet, just having these streamlined runs through I can dip into and out of has a kind of meditatative flow to it.
And I am waiting to see a wacky alternative universe like I keep hearing about, but I've not got one yet...

Nearly done everything in terms of factions/main story, cba to do the random quests with npc's you bump into in random places, that stuff always seems like filler content bs to me. Doing the last faction I can do (Freestar) then I'm done and back to doing the side stuff on Phantom Liberty, just in time for Alan Wake 2 next week, which hopefully will be better than the first and as good as Control which I loved, otherwise it shouldn't be @TNA endorsed :D

Reactions: TNA
Starfield is the 7th highest-grossing game of 2023 so far (NA sales):

Finding actual numbers is impossible of course but interestingly, Capcom recently revealed that RE:4 had sold 5 million copies (worldwide) and Starfield's (supposedly) already sold made more revenue than RE:4 in North America.

The majority of the sales are on PC.

*Edit* BTW - was in the Co-op earlier today and they had Starfield art plastered across the Doritos :D

I might be off the mark but feels like it's just getting inane steam achievements.
6 times is a bit much for me, don't think I'll be doing that in the short term (maybe more in the long run) but they are just running through the main quest to power up, not really doing the full game which is a lot larger than just doing the one main quest, probably a few hours each time. Doing NG+ a few times gives some in game benefits and isn't really anything to do with Steam achievements as far as I can work out anyway.

I really hate the temples, when you get to the last thingy you need, it disappears so fast, end up chasing thin air.
Yeah, they're pretty lame - it's been suggested that each one should have been a unique dungeon where you have to use the power you get to solve puzzles or defeat a boss (Zelda-style) - that would have been pretty cool.

I get the impression Bethesda ran out of time/resources and just thought 'well, they need to be there for the story we've made so let's just make them as low-effort and inconsequential as possible so at least they're quick to run through'.

Same with the artifact missions - there's glimpses in there of a game where each artifact would have had it's own quest-line and bespoke locations built around it - I guess there were just too many of them to practically allow that.

Also it's annoying having to return to the Eye after every single one. Wish there were some way in the far future of communicating over distance... Also, not actually found a power I want to use yet other than the one that helps restore oxygen, most seem pretty lame.
