Yeah, they're pretty lame - it's been suggested that each one should have been a unique dungeon where you have to use the power you get to solve puzzles or defeat a boss (Zelda-style) - that would have been pretty cool.

I get the impression Bethesda ran out of time/resources and just thought 'well, they need to be there for the story we've made so let's just make them as low-effort and inconsequential as possible so at least they're quick to run through'.

Same with the artifact missions - there's glimpses in there of a game where each artifact would have had it's own quest-line and bespoke locations built around it - I guess there were just too many of them to practically allow that.

Agreed. That would have been cool. They were such a big let down. Same **** over and over.

The game did feel like it needed another year or two in the oven tbh.

To be the game I wanted probably another 3-4 years based on how long it took them to accomplish what they did.

Also it's annoying having to return to the Eye after every single one. Wish there were some way in the far future of communicating over distance... Also, not actually found a power I want to use yet other than the one that helps restore oxygen, most seem pretty lame.
Yeah, that one got a lot of use for me. There's one that
helps you detect invisible enemies
which comes in handy later on in the game. Also, one that
slows time
which is great fun to use against enemies when you're rocking a minigun :D

In my playthrough I generally left the main quest on the back-burner until I'd done the faction quests and the (dozens of) activities I'd accumulated - as a consequence I stumbled across a few artifacts and temples just travelling around the galaxy - I suspect that if I'd just mainlined the quest I'd have found the artifacts/temples a lot more irritating as you'd have to do a bunch of them in relatively quick succession (and once you've done one of them, you've done most of them). Shame Bethesda couldn't make that whole aspect of the story more fleshed-out and engaging.

I might resume this on the side a little now that I completed Cyberpunk 2077 DLC.

I did start Wasteland 3 though, so if that grabs me maybe not so much.

Also going to do Resident Evil 4 DLC now. Probably finish that in a few seasiins though :)

It could have definitely used another year to make some of the systems more meaningful (looking at you, outposts :() and more variety to the proc-gen stuff. Really wish they'd had a system to randomly kitbash structures and caves together.

It all comes down to cost vs. profit though - would delaying Starfield for another year have resulted in drastically better sales? I suspect not, as I'm pretty sure most people that were interested in this game probably purchased it or played it on Game Pass. Also, delaying Starfield after the disastrous launch of Redfall would've probably seen Phil Spencer ousted from XBox - Starfield's still the only win he's had so far this year.

(heh - just as I posted that I remembered the Activision acquisition which is probably his biggest 'win' although I don't really see it that way)

How do you guys think the game will look in a year? Will Bethesda have made any meaningful patches or DLC or will it be solely up to modders to fix/add in stuff to made it great?

Edit - on a side note, I haven't played fallout 4 yet. Is it worth playing with mods now, or waiting for the next gen upgrade? I'm thinking it'll probably run better and look better pre upgrade...

I highly doubt they will add any free content. Just paid dlc and fix bugs.

Bethesda has one confirmed story DLC (Shattered Space) and I suspect they'll probably release at least one more along with content packs that expand ship-building and outposts (they've said they plan to support Starfield over a five-year period).

Based on their prior games, I don't expect too much to change in the base game other than some low-hanging-fruit bug fixes and fixes for broken quests. If any major new systems are introduced (I think, unlikely) they'll probably be in a DLC.

If you've got plenty to keep you occupied now, might as well wait for a 'complete' edition at some point.

I do use the star sense one to see where enemies are and the atmosphere one on occasion. The anti grav one i used by mistake a couple of times and turned friendly npcs against me. Haven’t touched the rest - there’s not a single level or enemy in the game where weapons can’t do the job faster.

I used the anti grav one to get past a guard that was blocking my exit in Cydonia - I was doing a quest that seemingly had no choice but get spotted breaking the law - unfortunately, if I surrendered it railroaded me into the Crimson Fleet questline which I wasn't having - so I jetpacked most of the way towards the exit and anti-gravved the one remaining guard blocking me - that was quite fun (Andreja wasn't impressed though).

Also, on the mission 'Entangled' I used the power that re-animates dead critters quite a lot - you're stuck on your own, mostly in the dark fighting hordes of the buggers so that power came in handy there.

I also use 'Precognition' *a lot* in the conversations and there's one that makes enemies drop their weapons - used that in a Ryujin quest that went spectacularly wrong when I didn't want to go on a murderous rampage :D

is there a bug, the power on piazzi isnt there, picking nothing up on scanner explored nearly every inch of it

Looks like you're not the only one:

Recommendation seems to be 'leave it for now - go do some other stuff and hope it fixes itself'.

I have a similar bugged 'Power from Beyond' quest but In my case, I actually did the quest but it never marked it as finished.

been trying to figure it out for an age, was driving me nuts as last one listed, i give it time as splitting time with forza as well, so not playing as much

I played some more, did the Ranger missions in NG+, I've had the awesome particle rifle with 600+ dmg for a while now, one shot most enemy, I don't even have any particle weapons skills yet. The games keeps giving me guns that have half damage but still worth selling, one of the missions I was carrying over 400/298Kgs (max for me now). It took me about 30 mins to sell everything at Mars (sleep, repeat) and now just made my first million, but that just makes me not want to loot anymore, I need XP. Is this the reason people keep starting over on another NG+?

I've also been messing with my ship again so got distracted by that, I've got plenty of missions to do I guess, just procrastinating :)

That's where gastronomy comes in by researching drinks that give you XP boosts and make a partnership to romance. Get drinking and jumping lol.

I am trying to plough through the main quests but had a driver fail which shutdown my GPU last night whilst on old earth. Frustrating to say the least but I'm enjoying the storyline. Fits with the audiobooks I listen to by Odette C Bell on my commute. Auto narrated by Google to so the lack of verbal emotions fits with the weird NPC's in starfield lol.

couple of strange issues again this morning, wouldnt let me quick save(greyed out) at any time it wouldnt let me change my weapon, couldnt even access any of the menu, inventory at all, this went on for around an hr, i exited out the game and reloaded, though had lost nearly an hour of game play, had to fight my way past the temple again and re-enter caves on NG+, mind you on way down to caves first time when couldnt quicksave, Sarah was having an epi fit bouncing round the lift on way down to bottom, like she was having a seizure

There is definitely a lot more potential with the level/universe shifting mechanic I think. Now my most played game this year at 137h. Really looking forward to the creation kit.
