***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I'm finding I have little motivation to keep playing. With Skyrim, Oblivion, FO3/4 I could play for hours but Starfield just gets frustrating. Maybe it's the awful UI, uninteresting characters or story, or walking for ages to look at an empty hole in the ground. It's just lacking the charm.

Yea it's pretty mediocre.

They even made modding a PITA for no reason. In the old games it was basically drag and drop, but this time, nope.

Yea it's pretty mediocre.

Something about Skyrim was 'genre perfect'.

Unless they do a radical overhaul of Starfield, it won't have the decades worth of Skyrim & Oblivion longevity for me. A handful of residents in a Skyrim town felt more alive than Starfield's vast cities of Soulless NPCs.

I'm just finding it annoyingly complicated, nothing I can't work out but I just don't want to spend my limited gaming time learning it all ... Inventory, ships, starmaps all just seem overly faffy for no obvious reason, or am I just being lazy?

Nope the game is a bit of a mess, the starmap thing really annoys me that I have to remember where places were rather than just type in "make it so"

Very much so, with outposts I've found the links don't initially appear to work but if you afk for a few minutes they sort themselves out. It's like it sometimes needs to do a round trip before deciding it'll take cargo.

They could make this very simple but I find it hilarious that you need multiple landing pads for moving cargo, the cargo ships will carry a relatively small amount of cargo despite being cargo ships.. it 100% feels like a rushed implementation.

Top tip if you want to level regeneration, just carry too much, run around until your health is really low then heal back up. tada you've went below 20% health and fully healed 3 times lol. Mechanics are so messed up in the game :)

Getting worried Bethesda are not what they used to be. My expectations on the new elder scrolls game keep getting lower and lower.

Isn’t it now M$ethesda?

I’ll probably get around to replaying Skyrim before the next Elder Scrolls game comes out.

Skyrim for its time was a great game - but unmodded it's hardly aged well.

There's not a single NPC in Skyrim that has the range of dialogue that each of the Constellation companions have (heck, there's companions you can find in entirely optional side-quests that have more dialogue than any Skyrim character) - also every Constellation companion (except Vasco) has their own quest chain and all of them are pretty good (Barrett's is the weakest IMO).

Some prominent Skyrim NPCs barely have a handful of lines of dialogue (Lydia for example, and my personal favourite, Sylgja).

I'll admit that Starfield's content is spread thin over the large amount of real estate the game has - but it's still a vast amount of content and easily more (and of a much higher quality) than Skyrim.

Regen is also available as a backpack upgrade.

Played today for the first time in a week or so, ran around and did abit, crashed to desktop without saving.... Great.

I am moving on to Alan Wake, unsure if I will return to this unfortunately.

Weird - I've got a similar setup to you (just a 4090 instead of a 4080) and it's been generally very stable - have you got any overclocks? The only crashes I've had (and it crashes every time) is when my XBox controller runs out of batteries.

This is the first time I have had a crash to desktop if I recall but it's happened at a time when I am teetering on the edge in regards to playing it anyway.

No overclocks anyhow, all stock.

I'm baffled by how poor the performance is. I started playing Cyberpunk 2077 again last night; max settings, looks amazing, runs perfectly. Starfield on the other hand, looks dreadful, and runs poorly; fps drops to sub 40 in some areas. Meh, 160hrs, so at least I've got my money worth.

I wonder what are they are up to? Just seems poor from such a big and experienced team that now has M$.

I think they're waiting on Threadripper to drop to make those graphics and gameplay really "pop"

I am also on another Cyberpunk run though and the game looks and plays amazing.
