***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I’ve switched up the difficulty level to very hard to provide a challenging gameplay. Once you get to level 50+ and start getting advanced weaponry the enemies pose no real problem. Ship combat is more difficult i’ve found on very hard level.

Also not really got any outstanding legendarys in my game but not needed them as the standard weapons are just fine. The legendarys that vendors sell are all weaker than refined/advanced. Only legendary i’ve found useful so far is the Revenant from the Crimson quest.

And when you are approaching the end of the main quest it all just seems pointless collecting anything because it will all be gone when you NG+.
The easiest way I’ve found to farm legendary gear is beating one of the high level 95+ pirate bosses down to a few HP, save then kill and reload until they drop something decent.

Bethesda will release new patch beta next week that will have DLSS3 with Frame Generation and HDR support next week. Also announced future update will add FSR3 support.

Cant wait to get rid of FSR2 crap!

Interesting. Might come back to the game for a bit once that patch is out.

Frame gen should be good. Fed up of dipping under 60 in some parts of Akila even with a 12700k simply because the CPU optimisation is totally rubbish.

Such a laughably average looking bit of the game for the performance it delivers.

I have no issues with my GFX card but I do with CPU optimisation. Whilst a 5600X is not great, it should be able to sustain more than 60-70 fps on low.
As it is I play on high with bits turned down and put up with frame times and stutters when my CPU tops out. In Cyberpunk I have everything turned up but no Raytracing and it runs like a dream capped at 74FPS.

A 5950X and a 4090FE here and I get zero frame drops that I’ve noticed at 4K with max settings.

I don’t have FPS displayed but it’s smooth virtually the entire time. Only time I ever get any brief judder is when it loads in a new area while exploring a planet, and it’s a brief 0.25 second freeze.

Will be interested to see their DLSS implementation but I certainly don’t need to use it currently.

It seems unlikely you are maintaining min framerates of 60 in Akila City/other cpu intensive spots with a 5950X.

All the cpu benches done show the 5950x/5900x etc only getting ~46fps mins

You need a 7xxx series or 13xxx series cpu to maintain above 60 in the really busy areas.

With everything properly rescaling to your player level in NG+ it's a must do. You can rebuild stock of weapons, credits and capture the MKIII ships in 2 hours.

I suspect this is why various effects like weapon case spawns at high level outposts works as intended rather than as a glitch. Or the Mantis Razorleaf trick when letting a pirate ship go giving infinite credits loop.

Otherwise, running the UC Sys Def missions gets you the best legendary weapon in game (scaled to ng+) and easily 400k credits.

I feel for the players who have invested huge time in Universe 1 though where the game is really designed for NG+ 4 onwards.

Depends how much you value achievements as you can just console stuff in.

Its a massively cpu bottlenecked game (especially in places with lots of NPC's). My 4070ti's fans never even come on most of the time! Always seems to draw much lower than its TDP despite showing high usage too.

Fair enough. GSync but be working wonders then as it’s smooth as silk on my OLED, no visible drops while playing that I’ve noticed, aside from the brief thing I mentioned when exploring new planets.

I play on Xbox Series X (4k TV) and PC via both Games Pass (cloud) and Geforce Now (steam).

Having played the steam version via Geforce Now it needs the premium 4080 4k subscription but you can run the game at full detail in 4k without and issues. Plays perfectly on my surface 9 Pro via GFN too.

Otherwise it is silky smooth on the Series X on a 4k TV but strangely not on a 1080p TV.

This is just one of those graphics card/pc crushing games that crop up every so often which will take 2-3 years for hardware to catch up on unless you are on a serious rig. RDR2 and the Witcher III did the same. Still £18pm for GFN was infinitely cheaper than upgrading my gaming laptop.

It runs at 30fps on series x so hardly any sort of comparison.

It isn't graphics card crushing at all. My card is barely being used. It's just Bethesda and their inability to code more than a handful of NPC's being present in an efficient manner for the CPU. Same **** as Oblivion from years ago.

Graphically/GPU wise it isn't doing anything that demanding or special. Even the water looks like something from a ps3 game.

@Jono8

Looking at the topic you linked to earlier it would appear that having an OC’d CPU at just over 5Ghz, and having tight RAM timings, may contribute to me getting smoother gameplay than I might otherwise expect to get from a 5950X.

Either way I seem to be in the minority that don’t really have any performance issues with Starfield.

Will give DLSS Quality a go when it releases though to see if I notice any difference.

So the enemies in NG+ are all around your level? - ie no more level 6 pirates?

Smooth with 4k graphics on PC ultra settings or Xbox Series X is just that. FPS is irrelevant really since its either delivering a smooth framerate or not.

I can't see a graphical or gameplay difference on my 4k TV via Xbox X or PC Steam via GFN.

A lot of graphics cards are struggling with this on 4k at Ultra with comparable visual settings to equal the Xbox visuals. It's certainly not all CPU limited.

You still have lower level enemies on the low level worlds and those tied to certain missions but as you go to the 60+ level systems you meet comparable level enemies to you especially elites.

Playing on very hard guarantees Advanced and Superior drops too.

Quest rewards all scale so Despondent Assassin or Deadeye from Akila quests go from doing 30-50 damage to 250+ as an example.

Just started another Ng. Will try and do the remaining quest lines. 200h so far, personal GOTY I think but I can't remember any other game this year tbh.

Edit. BG3 but got bored before I even started the last act.

I don't buy much gaming-related tat but I do like my all-Nova Galactic ship in Starfield :D

Damn. I played the game for almost 100 hours and don't even remember Nova Galactic. That's how underwhelming and forgetable the world in Starfield was for me :(
Maybe it's underwhelming and forgettable because you're not paying attention? :p

On a serious note - I really think Starfield does a remarkable job of its world-building and lore given that it's a new IP for Bethesda - it does follow the typical BGS formula of multiple factions all in some sort of conflict or uneasy peace with one another but given they've made this from scratch, the history and conflicts of the UC, Freestar Collective and the Va'ruun is really well done - I mean, it feels like it has the depth of lore that Skyrim and FO3 had at launch and they had prior games to build off of. Impressive stuff.
