***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

You know when you just got a bad feeling about a game, totes got it here lol. Doesn't mean I won't enjoy it but I don't think it's going to be epic. 6/7 out of ten reviews. Calling it.

It's hard to tell especially after baldurs gate 3, reviewers are going to mark the score down harshly if gameplay, story or character dialogue is poor and I don't mean like really bad poor just if it's like recent Bethesda games than yeah it may score lower specifically because baldurs gate 3 and how good it is at everything is fresh in everyone's minds

TBF, it doesn't have slow turn based combat so that's already a plus in my book.
But yeah I think it will suffer due to BG. Those that just enjoy a romp and know what to expect with Bethesda will get their money's worth.

I don't know why people are comparing it to BG3 as it's a completely different type of game.

BG3 has no appeal to me at all. But sykrim in space.. That I can get on board with.

It's not necessarily about one being an fps and the other a over the top turn based, it's that's Baldurs gate 3 has something like 170 hours of voiced cutscenes and dialogue, Baldurs gate 3 runs well on a variety of hardware and looks good, Baldurs gate 3 has few bugs and Baldurs gate 3 allows for a large amount of player driven choice that you don't see in games in the last decade

So it's not about the type of game, it's more that both are AAA RPGs and BG3 is a feature complete game that runs well, has few issues and has so much content and player choice that it feels completely unique from other RPGs on the market - it makes games like Assasins creed look like indie games in terms of quality of experience

BG3 launches on PS5 the same day Starfield does on Xbox, it's going to be super interesting to see which games sells more copies a few weeks after launch. My money is on BG3 beating Starfield in sales and that's something that would be mind blowing, you go back in recent years and tell someone that a self published mid size studio making an over the top turn based RPG would outsell a behemoth Bethesda FPSRPG and they would laugh you out the room

I don't care about sales, but..

You can count be out. Gimme a space ship and some crazy guns.

I'm looking forward to Starfield and hoping for the best, in regard of the BG3 thing, its easy to see why so many rival devs have got their knickers in a twist about BG3. Although different games it will undoubtedly be compared to BG3, purely because BG3 showed that games dont need to be a mess just because of their size/scope. BG3 has repositioned the bar for quality in a game release and if Starfield drops below that bar, reviewers will tear it to bits in a post-BG3 gaming world. A lot of devs just wont have any excuses now for sloppiness.

See I'm the opposite.

What I mean by that is I'm purposely holding off BG3 for time being, from what I've seen and read I think I will really like it, so I don't want to get stuck into a game give Starfield is what, 3 weeks?

I'll play Starfield and hopefully that'll keep me going for sone time by which BG3 might be slightly discounted.

A lot will depend on how buggy the game is. Let's face it, Bethesda has a track record of releasing titles that the community fix later on. In terms of game depth and ambition, I have no doubts whatsoever. Bethesda never lacks in those areas. But could this be the one where they execute on all fronts ? I think MS are putting a lot of faith in this product, and with their own engineers and QA team being involved I think there is a higher chance than usual it will turn out in great condition.

I agree with others saying it shouldn't be compared to BG3, as it is a different type of game. Both epic, but Starfield isn't fantasy themed or turned based and has FPS/action gameplay. And actually, BG3 has it's fair share of quirks and typical Larian bugs. But the consumer base is just so sick and fed up of getting incomplete games, or hit with microtransactions/live service elements, that it's conveniently overlooking that.

That's the total amount of cutscenes not the amount you have to endure with a play through.

The game can be finished in around 30 hours, but you'd skip everything outside of the main quests. BG3 is just fundamentally a good game, there's a reason why its ranked as the best game ever across multiple platforms.

As long as people dont use the "its Bethesda, you have to expect it to have these issues" as an excuse to give it a pass, IF it has the usual Bethesda issues. BG3 has reminded us all of something we've forgotten from decades ago, that we shouldnt have to put up with shoddy releases or find excuses to make messy releases acceptable.

Starfield definitely has one plus, no pet classes :)

Same for me. That and the fifty quid asking price. Usually I find new games for around £35 on cdkeys, but I think Larian are clever and do not sell keys outside of Steam around launch time.

My thought is by the time I am done with Starfield and Cyberpunk and hell, maybe even STALKER 2 (which I got for around £26 from cdkeys a while back) then BG3 will be available for around £35 and will be in great shape too.

I will be taking my time and playing it slowly doing side quests and exploring. Will be doing that in all the games mentioned above actually, so play time gets stretched out quite a bit. Don't see the point in rushing to complete the game and missing half the content. I find once I complete the game it never is the same again on 2nd playthrough. Only way it kind of works is waiting a good 5 years to forget a lot of it.

Agreed, Bethesda shouldn't be given an automatic pass if it is very buggy on release. Oh, and you can have "companions" in Starfield. Better cancel your order now !
