*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

Has anyone tried to install an older game from their Steam catalogue, games yet to be officially supported to see what it's like?

Just wondering if it doesn't start, you get zilch or uncontrollable, no input from the joy cons or any other gremlins?

I pre-ordered a 512, which is a few weeks away as I ordered a day after launch.

Much of the feedback I have read to date, is based on supported games and I wondered if any older games have been tested by owners?

There is the 'great on deck' list https://store.steampowered.com/greatondeck and there are a few curators checking and updating their own lists. Quick lists on SteamDB too https://steamdb.info/instantsearch/ verified, playable, unsupported (under the platforms twistie)

Lutris is a must for anyone wanting to mess about with GOG or Blizzard games. Got Diablo immortal working with controller support fully added. GF also played some Heroes of Might and Magic V, which is working fantastically well.

I had the same problem. Turn on developer mode in settings, there will be a new developer section on the left at the bottom of the list. In there turn off wifi power saving. Fixed it for me.
i was going to reply saying that just rebooting the router last night solved it but its happened again grrrr i've juist added the developer section

it does seem to be when the steam deck is idle that it loses connection i've just downloaded a game and its downloaded it without a hitch.

i'm hoping this fixes it thanks for the suggestion

what software version are people using stable or beta i'm reluctant to try beta with all this wifi problems i'm having

I stay on the Beta track- I figure it's an upward development curve so beta will generally introduce improvements.

Have had the Steam deck complain about being offline, and no wifi icon, but meanwhile it's happily downloading a game.... hasn't happened for quite a while though so I considered it fixed.

adding the developer section and altering wifi management seems to have fixed it now so all good

i was on the beta track but took myself off it to see if that was causing the problems i'll give it afew days then if alls well i'll go back on it

i was sure there was something beyond the beta version but that had far more problems/updates but i can only see stable and beta version

thanks for the reply

Tried my first emulator on it last night so i can play some of the classic games like Front mission 3, works like a charm! Didn't tweak a thing, just pressed play and away we go!

I went straight on and used Duckstation, just had to point it to where the bios is and where the games folder is and away we go. Super easy to setup, been on my new found love for psx games all night lol.

I think using Linux for this kind of stuff is a lot easier than using windows now.

I do feel like that while the emails to have sped up considerably, delivery time seems to have slipped by a couple days. No big thing really, but worth noting
Yeah its not too bad, i mean we've waited nearly a year so whats a few more days lol.

I've bought some accessories finally to go with the Deck. A TPU case, skins and a dock, just waiting for the USB-C hub now so i can connect a mouse and keyboard when i need to mess with desktop mode.

I can't link it cos of competitors but google this:

Benazcap Upgraded Stand Base with Fast Charging Port for Steam Deck, Anti-Slip Portable Stand Dock Compatible with Steam Deck Dock Stand Accessories-Black

Charges perfectly fine, the usb's at the back however are not passthrough so can't plug a mouse and keyboard into it.
