The *Official* Supreme Commander Thread

I've just installed this new patch, and well, none of the mods I have installed work now grrrr!

Has anyone had the same problem?? It throws up some debugger screen when I go to activate them now, really disappointed as i really dont like standard games anymore, I rely heavily on the mods.

The are current in the folder;

C:\Program Files\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander\mods

each with their own folder inside.....

Now reading about the new patch on the official forums, seems it doesnt give you a fix to make these mods work with the new patch....

i might re-install and go back to the previous patch, as atleast the mods worked then!

it says on gpg homepage to uninstall ** mods 1st, as they wont work...

and wtf, sorians ai seems to be easy now :( any small map and is stupidly easy to beat :/

:(, I've kinda of got them all to work again, I've been having a read on the modding support forums. It seems they've changed the way they assign attributes to some buildings etc.

If anyone had the mod called siege shields, and the mod that increases t2 and t3 shields theres a line of code i've found that needs editing. Also, to get the mods to show up and work, I had to zip them and rename them as *.scd files and put them into the gamedata folder instead.

If anyone wants them then I can tell you what bits to change to get them to work again, I'd send you my files but I've edited them quite a bit to suit me, so you might not like what I've done with them....

thx viper yeah the engineers now collect all the trees/rocks just by hitting patrol and on the trees itself:)

Yeah sorians is good on small maps im still getting wipped out did 2vs2 with a m8 yesterday and got wiped out on a 10x10 map, small maps I can do 1 on 1 though/
after 2 hrs both ai bases had at least 5-7 T3 artillery/missle defenses, sending over 6 saucers scratched them, other m8 sent 4 collouses did some damage but wow 10 minutes after and they back up and running lol

The engineers shield assisting me kept me going for a good 20 minutes lol before they broke down from 2 ai bases artillery/

Any other tips?

Build more quickly. Simple.

Set a group of (at least) 8 T3 engineers building power plants and mass extractors right from the start of your T3 operation. Use the mass to build your exp units more rapidly. Set another group building later on.

Don't attack until you're fairly sure you can wipe out the AI enemy, or at least cripple their economy. Sending 6 saucers over is a waste if they do little damage.

If possible, go for the enemy's power plants when you attack. Their building capabilities will be severely reduced, and you can slowly get the upper hand by out-building them.

A small number of strategic bombers will take out enemy T3 artilliary, avoiding the need for you to shield up everywhere and assist them with engineers. Send in the SBs with a bumch of cheap and cheerful interceptors to draw enemy AA fire until the artilliary can be reached. Consider the bombers as disposible, but given the cost of buildingh long range artilliary you're well up overall on resources-spent. Also, you save by avoiding having to layer up shields.

hmm guess I could do that I sorta upgrade 4-5 mass extractors to tech3/but mass storage around em and then 2 mass/4 power gens tech 3.

Question though when u build your experiementals I only do one at a time since my mass is 0 when building, so when u say build it later on that will mean I gotta wait for mass to climb back up ?

Or can I do 2 experimental builds at same time?

It's all about the economy. Mass in particular.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of your mass extractors should be level 3 as soon as possible. Use engineers to assist, to minimise the time it's out of action (they don't procuce mass when they're upgrading).

Further to this, I think that one T3 mass fabricator for each T3 power plant is about right (as a continuously building chain), since the excess power (about 1300 per pair) gives you something to play with for shields / radar / building etc. After a while though, you will be overproducing power and can add a few extra "free" T3 mass fabs.

Remember it's your mass production rate that's important, not the actual amount of mass you have. You WANT your mass to be constantly at zero for optimal efficiency, so you're always using everything you're producing. Energy is a little different as having zero energy shorts out your shields / radar etc. Try to keep your E production levels a few percent higher than your useage levels.

Personally I don't build experimental units (I find conventional ground forces mixed with gunships and strat. bombers are more effective for the mass-cost, in general), but you should just queue up a series of EXP units and set as many T3 engineers on building them as you can.

up for a game

personally, i dont use t3 power gens.. maybe 1 or 2 to start up with, but all my energy comes from support commanders upgraded with the resources allocation upgrade...

Played a game yesterday (with double resources by request  ) and was producing +5500 mass by the end of the game (hour and a half) This was achieved with 72 mass fabs and every available MEX upgraded to t3, and 100 SCU's with resource allocation.. quite quickly managed to build myself 130 rippers (purely defensive, i had rippers coming at me in swarms from the other 3 players) about an hour in after my 10th nuke silo had finished building i suddenly proclaimed 'i hope you have anti nukes...' :D (my enemies didn't do any scouting at all  ) gave then 15 mins to build some, just for a laff.. had 10 SCU's assisting each silo, then grouped the silo's to 1, 2, 3, 4 etc....

...1 n click... 2 n click... 3 n click... repeated this from 1 to 0 5 times... the last 3 nukes got through :D but by that point, i already had another 50 nukes to use up anyway.. got some screens of it somewhere... although i have no idea where they are kept.. any one help me out with that?

And to my previous error i was getting on funny coloured maps, that was my own dumb fault for changing the texture quality in the nvidia control panel... duh :/

Hmm wow still got so much to learn/ didnt even know sub commanders had resource allocation upgrades lol... need more sessions !

I just got this game to-day, can anyone point me to some tips without reading the whole thread.

Also what patch is it on? I see a few different ones.

Also well it run on high settings on
