Just right click on em dont ya?

Yeah thats one way but its too long ive seen replays and even on the tutorial they simple select the engineer and they can select an entire field of trees to get at....

Like all in one go so u dont have to click on each tree.....

I can select shift (que) and select 100s of trees but thats still too long, am sure its a key combination of some sort just dont know :(

Edit: Just tried sorians AI and the map pack and its not available under the new patch even when u goto mods

Make the engineers patrol through and around the trees. I know this works with derelict structures but not so sure with trees.

Hmmm, think I found a bug. I was finishing up the UEF mission where you have to protect the 3 Black Sun research facilities and towards the end you have to destroy the 5 enemy bases. I wiped out 4 with nukes, but when I launched one at the base on the left edge of the map, the nuke went off the map and then vanished when it tried to get back into the map. Tried another one and the same thing happened. Tried a number of different angles and it kept doing it. In the end I had to go do it the old fashioned way :p They didn't have a nuke eliminator either - I watched and the missile just vanished :(

Anyone here use Cybran mantis rushing tactics?

Switched to them yesterday and its great fun and easy to wipe out cheating AI with extreme spammage of bots :p:D

im not a rushing person :p doomsday happened in game against AI last night, it was moving, a TRUE holocaust, how many nuclear silos you ask 1...2...3, 19, all nuking in close succession, was beautiful :(

I just dont get the fun of doing that. For me the pleasure of the game comes from well thought-out (or just absurdly huge  ) attacks on a strong enemy. It gives you a sense of acheivement to counter their airforce, precision-bomb their artillery and shields and then sweep in with a ground invasion.

If you want a strategy game that lasts 5 minutes, play C&C tbh. Supreme Commander's all about big, long games.

(Incidentally this is why I dont play online. 90% of people seem to prefer winning the game in 5 minutes, even if it means it's really boring for all concerned. Shame really.)

Theres an easier way, im sure someone knows it... even if u goto the ecomny tutorials it shows the engineer having pin points set so it can just reclaim anything inbetween those points :)

Imagine it, if u run low on mass u can just set an engineer or 2 to take half the trees or stones... they really do boost early on, just need to find someone that knows what key to press to let the engineer do it !

You should always rush with T1, it is the only way to gain the necessary resources to maintain map control or to upgrade your tech smoothly.

This will become ever so more evident after the new patch, which is set to make T3 a lot harder to acheive whilst making T2 units worth the resources.

Its not rushing it is fighting for the resources that are available in order to keep your econ alive.
Even if you play a nooby 'no attack for 30 mins' battle then you still have to fight for the resources because you just CANNOT tech up to T3 with the resources around your base and using massfab/power matrices and then hope to put up a fight after zero hour as you will simply be outgunned.
Remember that mass fabs are there to 'SUPPORT' your economy, not BE your economy.

If you rely on mass fab matrices and support commanders for your resources then your really asking for trouble or at least a swift ending.
The amount of games I have played where I hit the enemy bases mass fab matrices and they just quit because they know they have nothing left to fuel there war engine.

Build, expand, crush, conquer. They should be your guidelines for EVERY game.

Only when you hold the key to the map should you turtle. One nuke silo costs a hell of a lot more than one nuke defence and a load of gunships and I know what I would prefer.

Only IF and I mean IF you manage to battle through to the 30 min mark should you build Experimentals and only IF you get to the 1hr mark should you build nukes. Nukes are not worth it unless you can afford to spam them!

Click assist on the ground and the engineers will reclaim all around and then when you dont need mass/power they will fix, assist buildings, experimental units and upgrades.

I think you've misunderstood was lay-z-boy was saying..

In his post he talked about 'spamming' with T1 bots to wipe out the AI within a few minutes. I said I didnt see the fun in that and preferred proper games. I'm well aware that to win you need to control resources, and therefore expand and contest territory, but that wasnt what I was talking about.

How is it not a proper game?

If i come at you with 250+ mantis' and own your base, how is that not a good strategy in a strategy game?

I've had my fair share of being a turtle, tech'er and brick wall its time for spam tactics.

I just prefer longer games. There's more to the game than just winning it, and I personally dont think that spamming with little bots (zerg-style) is much fun, whether you're the one doing the spamming or the one being spammed. I know a lot of people do enjoy it, for competitive or whatever reason, but there are loads that dont. (Hence the rush bans they've added to the game.)

Rush bans?

This is the latest patch?

Thank god it doesn't install on my machine without errors then. :p

I do enjoy long games every now and then but sometimes i get impatient and do rush games.

Sort of agree with the above spamming with T1 units early on is good and can give u a quick victory, but at the same time it means one hasnt gone to tech2/tech3 and experimentals and really appreciated the game itself ;)

Course if your playing online, your playing to win...

But at the sametime its good to be aggressive early on and gain territory, it buys u time to expand/level up also thats not to suggest the other side cant either plenty of land and mass extraction points to take...

See both sides of the coin I guess ;)

pfft, just combine the two...

Spam with experimentals :D

Also people, i just installed a gtx, now i get the error as shown above on some of the maps... (ie the terrain is a dodgy colour) anyone else have this and/or know how to fix it?

How on earth did u do that ;) u must have been playing the normal AI ?

Try Sorians AI...

I still cant beat it yet and had a few games already! there Artillery just canes me towards the end and my experiementals dont make it to the front door of there base even. But gonna try getting my engineers to assist my shields next time.

oh and I tried clicking on the engineer and clicking assisnt and then the ground but that doesnt do anything ?

I may have to register on the sup comm board just to find out how to get engineers to harvest locations on the map at a single click !

Playing against a mate, all he does is turtle, it's quite easy really :)

Managed to beat sorians AI 1st time i played it, although, i must admit, gives a MUCH better game than any other ai i have played!

And with the engineers and reclaiming, manoz was right, use the patrol feature... move the engineer to the trees, and then using the patrol button (p) just click some where around the trees, doesn't take up any time or effort, and they will reclaim anything near them, infact they even stray quite a way off to recliam stuff...

I've just installed this new patch, and well, none of the mods I have installed work now grrrr!

Has anyone had the same problem?? It throws up some debugger screen when I go to activate them now, really disappointed as i really dont like standard games anymore, I rely heavily on the mods.

The are current in the folder;

C:\Program Files\THQ\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander\mods

each with their own folder inside.....

Now reading about the new patch on the official forums, seems it doesnt give you a fix to make these mods work with the new patch....

i might re-install and go back to the previous patch, as atleast the mods worked then!
