Im hoping to get good enough by friday so i can play some multiplayer games.
Any advice whats the key to winning matches then is it:
A) Huge amont of resources
B) Tactics
C) Luck :p

Well, tactics obviously play a part, and if you don't defend effectively early on you can lose very quickly to rushes.

That aside though, the real key to winning is to quickly build a good economy. You need to put as much of your resources as you can spare into upgrading your mass extractors, and building mass fabricators (and the power plants needed to run them).

As stated above, mass is the real limiting resource in this game, although when attacking it is often worthwhile going for power plants first as they explode, cause chain reactions, and will make enemy construction very slow until they are replaced.

Is that good?
I was sort of hoping for no restrictions like 2v2 with max units :(

You should be able to handle more than that - certainly if you turn the graphical details down a bit and clock your CPU.

I can handle 4 player, 1000 units per side (which no side ever really reaches) fine on my e6600 @ 3.4Ghz. Framerate doesn't drop below 30fps, unless I zoom right in on some big battles.

I have an 8800GTX, but this is at most twice the power of your 1900xtx, and I'm playing at 1600*1200, so by turning down a couple of graphical options you should easily be able to match my performance.

i have an e6400 at 3.2, 76gt (currently), just played a 4v4 500 units limit per team, ran smooth as hell with everything on medium untill about 30 mins in when everyone was obviously getting a lot of units. You should be fine on 2000 to 4000 units, although if the map is big, then that will also slow your game down.

Also, new patch released last night, this patch has improved LOADS of things, one of which is the slowdown, multiplayer games run so much smoother now :)

He said he likes to run at max detail which is why I quoted what I did - turning it down, his rig should handle just about anything

Just installed Sorians AI mod.... and wow got owned completly in that/2 vs 2 and still died, my shields were getting pounded on by there artillery and proberly didnt help when T3 units showed up :)

Tis a good thing cos the normal supreme AI is lacking...At least in sorians AI they attack non stop or come from different ways for you.

Id definatly recommend it for anyone playing a few skirmishes ;) or co op with m8s against the AI :)

This game worth a buy when i get my new rig? I've heard complaints even on new setups it can chug a bit in big battles? I also heard basically every fight lasts like 3hours! Sounds a bit extreme

Well i have only played with a friend 2v2. It goes to 1fps after 3 quaters of the way through cos of the amount of units on the field. Also 2v2 battle did last awhile about 2 hrs i think as we were really struglging against the hardest ai.

Mates comp with dual core p4 3.9ghz or somit never went below 10fps and he was happy with that i supose with lowest quality and 1024x res.

This game is defo not for single core cpus.

MUCH improved with the big new patch out the other day, Just need to wait for the mods and custom maps to have their kinks ironed out so they work with the new patch.

THe AI is supposed to be much improved, but sorians and TL's custom AIs are still far superior.

Since moving from my gtx/athlon x2 to c2q/gtx i have been really enjoying massive battles in SC, 8 players with 1000 unit cap bought my x2 down to 0-5 fps on good 8 way maps and made it totally unplayable. The new quad core handles it easily, I had a 3000 light assult bot spam match and whereas the x2 dipped to ~1fps in the battle i get ~25-30 with the quad. :D

Deffo worth a buy I'd say. I love it, even though i haven’t played it for a month or so. The battles can drag on a bit, and games can last up to 3 hours. Especially if both sides have large heavily defended bases.

Performance is pretty good on my setup, I don’t experience any slowdown in big battles. It's heavily dependant on a good CPU.

It arrived about 2 hours ago :) Ive watched the tutorials and ive played 1 skirmish which i won as the ai was on easy now im having a go on normal.Ill have to finish the match off later cause ive got work.
Anyway great game and i hope i can play against you all soon :)

Good stuff :)

Patch release notes here :

People are saying this patch is awesome/ tons of bug fixes/improved all the minor glitches too and brang the cost down for all the units/build times improved etc etc and even more so a memory leak has been improved people are now running this game at 30fps with a single core apparantly the performance is that good, even the multiple monitors is speeded up and no longer lags with multiple units on screen ;)

Does anyone know when u get an engineer to reclaim trees/minerals/stones around the map is there an easier way?

On the tutorial the engineer selected an entire area selection around the trees making it easier, what keys are used to do this?
