The **Official** Test Drive Unlimited for PC thread

Was playing the closed beta offline, and tried to play last night, but was asking for a serial number, so I guess it's hard-coded to close somewhere yesterday.

What was the online play like?

I've seen it being released on the 2nd March too - on the purple high street retailers site, with a daily count down.

Will be getting it, as my 2 yr old loves playing the bikes on it, and I want the Countach.

I don't like the sounds of this...

The open beta has been short. The purpose was to stress the servers, which has been accomplished. Your reports have identified new and verified defects that have been reported during the closed beta. They have not been ignored. Serious issues have been addressed. Some will be released with the retail, others will be released as patches.

Seems once again companies are happy releasing an unfinished product :(
I'll wait I think, or maybe see if I can test it somehow without buying it.

I guess you've never played EA's BF2? That game never gets everything fixed. I'm hoping Atari will release a better polished game that EA never seem to be able to do, but then EA worry more about shareholders than final products.

When I played FPS I was more into CS, I have played BF and BF2 but the style of play just wasn't for me.

I'm still interested in TDU, but will wait to see what state it is in until I get it.

Just checked where i pre ordered my copy from and the release date is now showing as 2nd March! Boohoo! Oh well never mind. Maybe they will fix more issues now they have a couple more weeks until release ;)

This is the one game I can't wait for, having seen all the screen shots it's the driving game I've been wanting since Need For Speed 3 and 4. Really am looking forward to playing it online, driving all those different cars. Can't wait to get behind the virtual wheel of the Pontiac Trans Am, TVR Segaris and a few others that I can't quite think of right now.

hmm, i really enjoyed playing TDU, but ive actually cancelled my order, like i said good game but it gets boring pretty quickly
once youve a few houses , bought the best cars, drove around the island it really doesnt have anything to pull you back in
if your expecting a driving sim covering all these super cars then prepare to be dissapointed,
all the cars feel the same with the exception of speed
maybe i overplayed in the beta's and hopefully there will be new content added over time (without charge)

So you ruined it for yourself? I refused to stop making progress in the game once i'd bought my Gallardo and just cruised around with mates finding awesome mountain or forest roads.

The slower cars are actually FAR more fun for cruising, GT500 for the win. ;)

I have to disagree with that, imo most are different. They all pull away differently, hammer it in 1st in a crappy car, and your get a tiny bit of wheel spin, hammer it in a zonda and your be skidding for 400feet up until 3rd. They all have different understeer/oversteer levels aswell, get into a audi a3, find a corner and go 100mph into it, i bet if you then got into a 360 it would feel completely different. Breaking is faster/slower in most cars. You got things like tail wag when you slam the breaks on in some cars.

Have you even played it?

I agree i think the cars are quite different. The F430 was the best all rounder for me and was my 'everyday car' ;)

Gallardo was mine. Even prefered it over my Murcielago for driving about. Ferrari n00b! :D

yes , closed and open BETA , with many many hours put in , and numerous bug reports submitted to the devs, does that qualify ? ...
its a good game, but its NOT a simulation, try GTR , legends, GP series, WTCC , LFS etc etc if thats what you want
this is more an arcade game, with rpg elements albeit very basic ones
the races do not require that much skill if any, more the right car which wasnt to my liking
i was really looking forward to this game hence i made the TDU beta thread and played it to death even with all the bugs
the final release isnt going to have substanial differences to what most beta testers have played, its good fun for a mth, thats it
it doesnt make it a bad game, just not brilliant like i'd hoped ..

It was never intended to be a simulation. Its a 360 arcade game port. But saying that all the cars handle and feel the same just isn't true. Hell, even the way the car changed gear was different in each car.

exactly, the cars do not feel significantly diff as its not a sim, some are faster, some handle poor, its very basic , glad you agree

But you didn't say that in your original post:

If you don't like the game, then don't buy it. Leave those who like the game to enjoy it.

you could also quote me saying ' i really enjoyed playing TDU' or 'its not a bad game' , dont be so pedantic

i wasnt writing a review just putting some views out there, if you dont like them, tough titty

I could have done but I was trying to point out that you had changed your statement. Everyone is entitled to their views and its not that I don't like your views, I agree with your 'change of view' that the cars differences are basic in comparison to one of the sims you mentioned, it's just I don't like people changing their views within a few posts.

I don't like that either, gets right on my nerves, but still lets move on shall we ??

Bit disappointed that the release date has been delyaed by another 2 weeks, but oh well I've waited this long, I can wait a little while longer more I guess.

Indeed.

Yeah i was hoping the feb 16th date would be the one but if its another two weeks then so be it. Longer for them to fix bugs i hope!

i havent changed my view or as you say 'statement', its an ok game, but the actual driving of diff cars isnt sufficient enough to get excited like some are,
i stand by my comments as they are correct, to get so defensive of a game is pathetic
