The **Official** Test Drive Unlimited for PC thread

I've got an online profile but have not managed to get any real online action going yet... I can see the other players on the map - maybe 10 to 15 at once.

But - I only occasionaly see them when driving around and then I only see about 3 or 4 names on screen.

Questions:

1) Surely there should be hundreds of people on the map
2) What can I do to actually find these poeple when driving to challenge them ?
3) What do the different colour names mean (red, orange, yellow etc)
4) Also when I try to enter a 'brown' multiplayer race there is never any race to run - help !

I've googled this and can't find a decent faq anywhere... If someone can answer some of the Qs above I would be v.grateful.

1 )There are hundreds of people playing yes, but it's split up into sections, you'll only be able to see/interact with 7 other players (bottom left of the HUD)
2) Theres no other way except finding them in-game, pressing enter and challenging :(
3) Colour names - no idea, i only ever get one coloured player, the rest are grey/laggy :confused:
4) Think it's because no other players are playing that race. If you go to the map, and right click on challenges, filter it to Multiplayer, and then search for a race with a few players in.

Sorry if it's a bit vague, but i'm still finding out stuff too :p
 
Found this which has helped.... Why this isn't in the manual is beyond me...
first drive to any Yellow flag


The Yellow flags scattered around everywhere, are showing Starting Points for Online Multi Race Tracks, join any of these and open the tab on the bottom called Online Pref's. Enable the option at the top called "Allow world challenges" or something like that . this will show all Multi race lobbies thoughout the island. works for either Non Ranked or Ranked. Lots of Lobbies today! once inside Click Switch Status the Green up. its on the bottom left corner

Change your online Prefs To allow world challenges
Click on Custom
Click Ranked or Non Ranked
At the top there is a tab called Create a Race
Select your race pref's
Click Switch Status
after everyones ready to race ... above your name is a tab called Start Race, click it to start :-)
Non Ranked races Continue...
Ranked races require restarting your pit after each race...



About Free Roaming:

1. Use the F key to see the free roaming pop up, it shows people's names around you
2 When the Free Roaming pop-up is up use your number pads arrow keys (2,4,6, to navagate the pop up menues.
3 from this Pop-up you can highlight someones name (using the number pad again), youll see additional tabs that can add that person to your friends list, Lock on them (to form a group of UP TO 8 peeps to instant challenge), or you can Ignone them
4. Have fun :-)
5 To Instant challenge others free roaming you simply flash your head lights at them.
6.you can also enable an instant challenges Stake Race and bet up to 10k per race, this is set up in your options under a tab called game settings
7. You cant warp by means of the map untill you unlock that particular road, you cant see most tuner shops, challenges, stores, homes,ect.. ect... untill you unlock them by driving past them... Gotta drive around the Island folks... It dont take that long its only a 1000+ miles of roads...lol

Also if you go into the satalite view, the areas glowing in pink indicate where the multiplyer races are taking place.
 
Not read this thread since I posted on page 2, but is there a list of peoples names/gamespy ID's that we can add as friends?

I'm now at the point in the game where I really need to set up a fully running club (or join one), but without any "mates" I just have an empty club :(

So:

You can't add as friends until you see them in-game though (which is pathetic)
 
Yes there is and I think it's called "The official TDU usernames thread".

It may have been buried in the games forum so do a search.

There are currently 3 OCUK TDU clubs I think - Two OCUK Sunrunners and an OCUK Sunrunners 2...
 
Got my second car (first being the Alfa), Lamborghini Murcielago coupe, the 18 miles from the shop back to my house whizzed by. Its a shame I crashed a lot though, using a keyboard Ive only got two speeds, Too Fast and reverse.

Really need to meet up with someone in game, add me to xfire if you have it, username is Nieldo.

Anyway, now Ive got this car I can win races and make money for some proper cars :).

Little starters tip...buy a car for each class, you've got one for Group F and one Group A car. Also by 3 Lambo's, Ferrari's, Ford's, Merc's, Chevy's, Bikes, lot's of cheap 4 car houses, try and map the island....this will bring you to champion lvl quite quickly, where money rakes in very easily.

Oh, and backup your local save regularly - I've had 2 profiles go corrupt (and now have serious hardware failure atm :( )

Cruising in B,C and G class cars is my favoured pastime.
 
Yep, trying to complete all of the challenges... Have to go back and do all the class G/F ones because i skipped them at the start :o

edit: Although i'm starting to drift away from it. It's developed a fault, where i can't quit the game. I get a black screen after i click quit, and then it does nothing :p Have to restart after i play the game...
 
Yea, just bought and fully tuned a Koneigzigazigaaah. I have to say, whilst it's top end is higher than the Saleen (by about 5-8mph when not drafting something) it's an awful lot slower through the gears. On some speed challenges by the time the Saleen is doing 230 the CC is doing a 'poxy' 205 or so - Saleen is much quicker in the higher gears when you nail it as well......

Did the Millionaires challenge in one sitting as well, sore fingers :D
 
Yeh i've got a koenigsegg. It's good for straight lines, but i find it's just too heavy/drifty for anything other than motorways. I did have a run in with an Enzo, and i spanked it on the straights.. but when it came to corners he just took the lead again :(
 
So how do I 'friend' people and stuff to get into this cruise if it happens?

The in-car controls are awkward for the radio and friemds list...

The only way to meet up is to tell people your name and then were you are in game for us to meet :(

Anyone fancy a cruise like... now? :D

If so meet at the best meeting plae in TDU, lighthouse/carpark at top left of island, my name is Willef_T will be in game 10 mins.
