The **Official** Test Drive Unlimited for PC thread

I just picked this up for £7 in a bargain bin. I'm having lots of fun with it, mostly pootling around in an Elise R for fun. Lovely noise. British Racing Green, as you do. I've just bought an AC Cobra, because it was there. I realised I was really getting into it when I had a job delivering an Enzo and didn't break the speed limit. Not for the in-game cash as much as for the sake of not wanting to risk denting an Enzo :)

The only weird thing is that it wouldn't let me use Angilion as my name, saying it was already in use. It's hardly a common name. Does it have to be different to your gamespyid name?

Re-installed TDU the other night. Getting a bit fed up with the invisible police cars that I seem to hit, mainly when doing the car delivery challenges. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Oh, is that what they are? I've had that a couple of times, but it was late at night when I was tired and I dismissed it as me clipping something I hadn't seen.

Yep same thing for me. It was already off so it wasn't looking good. Some challenges are cursed in terms of hitting invisible police cars yet others seem perfectly fine.

Suppose I should just forget the bugs in TDU and wait for news on TDU2. :)

They never fixed the bugs in TDU, why would you give them money for a follow up that they also wont fix? I know I wont be. TDU had so much potential, all completely wasted by a poor developer/publisher. Could have been so much better.

They did fix some bugs in TDU, hence the patches. Unfortunately they just didn't fix the other bugs or somehow introduced new bugs.

Yes I agree with you on this. TDU had the potential to be an absolutely awesome game. I can see some of the potential in the game but I think it lost a lot of the potential through bugs and poor networking code. A mate and I tried to race each other online. We could see each other next to each other on the map but in the game no-one is there. We were living in the same flat at the time so we couldn't understand why it wouldn't work.

TDU2 should be awesome
I'm hoping this is the case. I've heard from a mate that we'll be able to fill up cars at petrol stations in TDU2?

If TDU2 improves on the failings on TDU it'll be good. :)

It has a very odd network model... me and my brother used to play on two computers on the same switch. Because of the way it randomly chooses a group of people near each other to be on the same "server" it was very hit and miss whether you would be on the same screen. Often you would have an entirely different set of people. Sometimes I would have no-one on my screen and I would start getting text chat from other people that was aimed at him :D.

You would have to just keep going in and out of the map until the other person was there. Then we would use the "lock" feature to lock us into a session, and be very careful not to go into the map, or it would stop being locked.

We also tried creating a club so that we could both go there and just select races. It often worked but on some days when the servers were busy it would just time out trying to join the other person. Funny thing is that when we just did races all of the network traffic was just between our two computers and not with the server... so even though the busy servers were stopping us from racing, it was only needed for that tiny bit before the race.

Would be better if there was a fake server you could set up on your network to guarantee who you race...

I've never seen police cars, maybe it's cause I play online.

You should be seeing police cars online. Try ramming some cars - you should see a police status thing appearing in the top centre of the screen and hear radio conversation between the dispatcher and drivers.

TDU2 should be awesome, I find TDU perfectly playable.

Apart from the occasional invisible police car and an almost total lack of other players online, so do I. Although I haven't tried a multiplayer race yet. I'm online, but doing the single-player stuff. It's well worth the £7 I paid for it. Hooray for bargain bins in games shops.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for TDU2, if it ever exists.

Another thing that bugs me is the very obvious cheating on race times for global rankings. I did a race in a time I was quite happy with, so I looked at the global rankings, thinking maybe I'd be in the top 1000. The top page was full of people who had supposedly done a race of several miles in under 10 seconds. The top position had a race time of 1 second.

and what bugged me is how atari sent everyone a in-game email saying they are wiping the boards clear and anyone cheating will be banned. this made me cross because i had spent like days getting myself to number1 on a certain race, but i thought oh well at least they wont be any cheating, they is also a sticky on atari forums about banning cheaters. have they baneed them?? no........tards
