**The official Vanguard Thread**

I'm mainly playing Eve at present but while my miners mine, I am tempted to try Vanguard. Seems the release date is today.

OK, so it seems the game is released early for financial reasons which to me implies it may fold early. In spite of that I would still like to try it.

Is it possible to play Vanguard through completely solo. I HATE groups/gangs/guilds/corps. I enjoy playing games where other players affect me, but don't like playing with them if you see what I mean. I like the crafting side of MMORPGs and Vanguard looks to be good in this respect.

Would it run on a 2GB Athlon 2400XP Nvidia 6200 based machine running Windows 2000. Oblivion was fine on this PC with some eye candy turned off. I just want to run it to get a feel for gameplay. I will be upgrading to an uber PC later in the year but don't want to do it yet.

Thanks for any opinions offered.

Might have to pinch my lad's 6600 XP Pro PC while he is at work.

Well im on the euro - team pvp server and I really like it, nearly got enough for my first horse, and im working on my crafting to build boats so I can sell and also explore :)

I so far have teamed up with 2 people both of which were really nice people ( no kiddies here) seem good, as for the graphics engine its nice but you need a good system to get the most from it, see sig. I get in citys about 30-90 fps in/outside and through open areas 40-80 fps all at nearly max settings and 16af. I have a problem with my sound, its a realtec hd abit aw9d daughter board, but I get a weird sound effect where every thing sounds like its really close to me even though they could be down the road.

ehh so its open? i thought servers open at 2pm ? Also i thought the beta characters would all be wiped/reset prior to actual RETAIL opening of the game?

How does the pvp work? not sure whether to go for pve or pvp. Dont know what character to run either argh. Lots of choices :)

Yeah, it's TFT (2405fpw).

Anyone can advise whats needed to play @ medium settings at native rez (1920x1200) ? ;)

I think a new rig is needed.

couldnt tell you, best way is to just play and find the limits i guess, unless you only want the game if you can have all the eyecandy turned right up

anyone able to log in ? official opening is 2pm though i suspect it will be a lot longer before ppl can get in.

Nope, don't need all eyecandy.

Just don't want to play on minimum settings :)

Think I'll just get it and see. Skint till next month though :(

or was that just well placed spite from the anti-SOE camp hehe

Has anyone without the pre-order key tried to start their account? I asked an SoE customer service guy and he said i'd be able to activate my account by now. Impatient I know!

That was me, and that's exactly what it was :D

2pm was the end of the estimated downtime for the EU servers. No idea if they're actually up yet.

To the previous poster - people who pre-ordered the game through direct2drive or the sony store got to start the game early - last Friday. Beta ended 3 or 4 days before that and all characters were transferred to a test server.

I have been playing the pre-release 3 days early :) got a level 8 ranger, with at least a days worth of crafting xp so far, I have not tried it today as im at work.

Their are a few bugs that need ironing out but I reakon you would be able to turn down a few things for instance - turn the shader detail from 100% to 80% nothing apart from water seems to change but you get 15fps more ;)

I stand by the water and switch back and forth the shaders from 80% - 100% and bet you will prefer the 80% shader water without the dark shading you get from 100%!!

Was that to me? Yeah I know that. :p

Got the game from a competitor and it arrived last friday, obviously without the pre-order offer to play before its live. Suppose to go live today and I can't start a subscription or patch up yet.

Just impatient to start this darn game. :(
