ehh?

"For 60 seconds, this ability will turn your body to stone. Along with removing all poison effects, you will mitigate 25% damage and become immune to movement impairing spells such as knock back, stun, and snare. Recast is 30 minutes."

Thats the dwarf buff. Mitigates 25% of the damage done to you. So how is it 80% resistance? Basically they do 75% damage instead of 100% damage to you no? So you're on 25% resistance. Unless ive misunderstood it :o

and you couldnt kill them but they couldnt kill you??? Well thats strange as well if 3 of them are melee-ing you. It takes time to cast Healing Touch
and doesnt it get interrupted if you get hit? What are the creatures called? Sounds like quite an easy quest if you can survive 3 of them just by healing every so often..... but wait a minute ..... you say you couldnt kill them but you survived??? How did you escape then? dont tell me you ran away????

tbh still rather skeptical... you managed to survive without running away or recalling or whatever(i doubt you'd be able to run away from them unless they couldnt move)
Where did I say I didn't run away?

The quest was to collect crates from gwatarok caves.. I did that whilst I had 3 lvl10's meleeing my lvl5 pally.. pally's have bugger all DPS because they are tanks, not ganks.

My friend's uncle gave me a buddy key, and I made an Orc on the FFA PVP server. When does this game get more interesting? I like it so far, but it's nothing new...yet. Are the first 10 levels or so merely a tutorial? I've been doing the quests and they've been introducing me to new stuff each time, and I'm level 5, just learned the 1st part of the diplomacy game. I've also only seen like 4 people online. Is that because of the particular server I chose? I just wanted an oldschool Dark-Tide-esque server, where as soon as I spawned, I would get raped by higher levels. Hopefully I will end up loving this game and buying it.

The game does start off very slowly, it's not until about level 10 that you start to realise the scope of the game.

Most of the PvP crowd seem to be on the team PvP server.

Tical - Any windows in the house? One thing that always bugged me about SWG was the fact that there were never windows in the houses for you to enjoy the view.

Not in the house I built. I can only build the first teir of houses which is only 1 room with no windows. The higher teir houses have windows though thankfully. :p

And yes the game really comes into itself after level 10, and more so if you get a nice guild and a bunch of friends in the game. Its very community based.

frengrot pvp eu server, mostly as a shadow faction race...though i have got an urge to start a good guy monk...suppose i could role out a shadow one hehe...necro is great but i had a quick blast on my pve server monk and its a ball

Do some research on where to grind faction, theres normally mobs around the restricted cities you can kill to gain access to the place. You generally need -7999 faction in /showfaction for the guards to become friendly. Which normally means killing around 201 mobs for the required faction. Sometimes its lower though.

It's apparently bugged.. the NPC guards are friendly (i.e. yellow/white) until you approach them, and also have quest shields.

Errr i know its an SoE game but does it draw very heavily on EQ2 and SWG it looks almost identical and some of the stuff you are talking about also almost a direct rip from their previous games.

I just started playing on frengot and yes if you have played EQ or SWG a lot of things have been lifted straight from them :)

the engine is pretty much a hash up of swg and matrix online. The fighting system is the same as matrix aswell as a LOT of the sound bytes, i think the crafting system is nearly the same also.

It's more like EQ1 than EQ2 imo.

Half the team that made eq2 left and formed sigil iirc.

Vanguard uses the Unreal 2.5 engine, which is the same used on Lineage II. Of course its *a lot* like EQ1 (not 2 imo) as its made by the same dev team that created EQ1. Not that i'm saying its an EQ clone. :p

It reminds me of a mix between DAoC, EQ1 and SWG in a lot of respects, with more ideas ontop of it.

Its also not *really* an SoE game, so all you SWG "vets" (read: whine whine) have nothing to fear. It was being published by Microsoft at first, then Sigil bought the rights to the game, and gave the publishing, distribution etc to SoE. Sigil have full control over the development of the game, the ingame GM support and full intellectual rights to Vanguard. So we'll never see SoE making development choices and things that directly affect the game. Alls the better!
