**The official Vanguard Thread**

I hate the combat user interface. I liked pre CU: SWG interface and CU was ok, but NGE sucks. Same interface in this game, ripped from EQ2. I like the arcade-esque, combat user interface like in city of heroes/villains and pre CU: SWG.

I had to bind walk back on my necromancer to a mouse key since, all fighting was done running away and u could only attack looking at target; hence awsd cant be used while spamming number keys for attacks.

U spend a significant amount of your game time, in combat in these games, if the UI makes u cringe, its no good.

Or you could just use your mouse to click the required attack

Or play a class that doesn't have to run away all the time :p
My point was I dont like the UI, it was a separate point that the controls are arkward.

dont like the UI in terms of functionality or in terms of layout..layout can be adjusted and mods can change its looks..as for funtionality, doubt you could do much about that

If its the "graphical" UI you don't like, try one of the many UI mods. I use the Boxed UI myself, find it much better than the default UI.

As for not being able to run backwards its not really a problem, either use the mouse to circle strafe the mob after you snare him, or use the arrow keys to run backwards so you're free to use the number keys to cast spells. Just play about with different tactics, you'll get it down eventually. :p

What a crap website (from a technical pov.) :\

EDIT: BTW - is there a group buff's window (so i can see buffs, debuffs, poisons, etc. on groupmates) I am yet to discover? Without one it can make a healers life difficult :(

No there isn't. I vaguely remember reading something from Sigil saying that its intentional, they want communication between group members about buffs, and for the buffers to keep a personal track on the buffs they cast.

I was all happy & jolly running Vanguard under Vista Ultimate until the last patch. Now I get repeated CTD's and have to re-boot into XP.

Bah, just as I thought it was safe to remove my XP partition, something else goes wrong under Vista

Ungh. There's enough communicae already when pvp'ing. PvE'ing is clockwork so I can see that side of things.

What Im saying is I dont like the UI/controls whatever u want to call it so much that I wouldnt play the game. Im not playing the game, its just it didnt grab me like SWG did but the controls certainly dont do it any favours IMO.

Im saying I like the style of SWG: pre cu and City of Heroes/City of Villains. Ive already described it as more "arcadey combat".

Its nothing u can get round with a "mod", its the difference between SWG: pre CU and SWG: NGE in terms of user interface. I just dont like it! For the last time, u wont change my opinion, Ive made up my mind about the game from getting to lv10 in the beta.

Hi

I me and my mates have never played MMO's or RPG's before and normally always play FPS and the occasional RTS.

We have only been playing VG a day so sorry if I sound like a noob but how do me and my friends become a 'clan' so that as soon as we sign in we are all automatically in the top left. We have four members so far and another mate has been convinced to subscribe.

I heard somewher that you need five members to be a proper clan/guide thing

I made sure we are all on the VENGROT pvp server (do not know what difference this makes but thought it would be best just in case) and all on the KOJAN continent... So what else do we need to do to make our teamplay experience better? How do we go about properly doing missions together and taking on other clans  :p

Thanks

P.s I know my post might seem lame but I genuinely need help on getting started on this MMO experience

also is there anything I can do to stop VG owning our rigs? What setting do I tweak to keep it looking good but with mininum loss in the games visuals?

purchase a guild chartar from a guild registrar found in major cities, as for it owning your rig, short of getting a better one or turning the settings down there isnt much, performance tends not to improve with high end machines either...it just doesnt get any slower when you turn the settings up either

anyone tried to run this on windows Vista? Just installed it and it GPF's complaing about missing DirectX 9c.

Installing it on my XP partition now but would like to get it going on Vista.

hmmm I don't have the money for GTX sli :( and my friends rigs run fine on all other games so they would not upgrade just for this one game

Come to think of it I think it is the hhhhuuuuggggeeeee multiple loading lag that is more annoying than the low frames.

ps thanks for the guild tip I will check it out soon ASAP :)

I wonder if a dedicated 36gb raptor would sort of the VG loading lag?

EDIT:  OMG 36gb raptor cost £76

I guess if people have any knowledge on whether they help then a second hand one could still be a consideration

I wouldn't buy a Raptor *just* for Vanguard right now. Because its a new MMO theres still a ton of bugs/performance issues in the game that'll be fixed in upcoming patches. Just be patient. :p
