***The Official Vulkan API Thread***

windows xp, Windows 7, windows 8, windows 10, linux, android...thats how an API should be
Devs should really get behind this API, their sales prospect would greatly improve, and i am pretty sure there are ppl like me, fed up with microsoft and DX, i myself will buy every single vulkan game that comes out, even if am not gonna play it.

As long as this doesn't fail badly like Mantle then I'm willing to give it some support. I did lol at the 'derived from mantle' message from AMD, cringeworthy idiots. This is an API with a whole overhaul and not just a couple of good bits from Mantle. I'm still reluctant to use it due to the fact AMD are associated with it and they are known for failing. If devs push it and really make this a viable alternative to DX12 then why not. I still think DX12 will be used much much more widely but I'm happy to see how it goes.

Lol
Mate the devs behind Vulkan even thanked amd for there work in letting them use mantle has the ground work for the api...
If say 2017 Vulkan became the number one api how would it make you feel that deep down all this came from amd? You must be shaken over this news?

And how did mantle fail? It started off has a project and has so far turned into two different software LiquidVR and Vulkan...
If these both take off then am sorry mantle has been a massive success.

The salt levels are high once again! :D

Great news this, hopefully we will see some good competition between this and DX 12 :)

I hope it quickly replaces OpenGL in productivity and professional software. So many of them are still clinging to ancient OGL 2.0 versions; and it all needs to go.

personally i think Mantle was one of the most exciting things that happened to PC gaming in the last decade and by far, i still dont see it as a failure, just the amount of games they managed to do during a year of it's beta life was pretty impressive, thing that even microsoft didnt manage to do with DX12 untill now, that goes to show the commitement AMD had toward PC gaming.
and i strongly believe without the phenomenon Mantle started with cpu overhead and low level API benefit, we wouldn't have seen DX12 as it is today or even vulkan for that matter, we can spend the week arguing about the matter but, to me it's pretty clear that without Mantle things wouldn't have evolved the way they did, and only a blind can deny the impact of Mantle on the API sector

Mantle was great and showed what was possible. Vulkan is the next step and I would love to see developers move more to Vulkan over DX12 in truth.

Soon as you use the words phenomenon and Mantle together rules me out.

You were against mantle because it was from AMD, your opinion of failure or not had nothing to do with your support towards it.

Yes, but I'm also against it because it was never going to come out of BETA which covered any failure of it, and the fact it was in, what... 4 games ? Thats about 0.00000000000001% of PC Games. Mantle was and still is very insignificant.

Always a fun read, LambChop, rip those GDDR5 IC's off your Nvidia GPU, AMD played a major part in developing them.

Was that the same major part they played in Mantle by getting someone else like Dice to create it for them then say its their own ? If it was AMD, then I could almost guarantee thats how it went.

If it was DICE it would not be AMD's to give away, of course all Credit due to DICE for their help and involvement, as well as other Developers.

Developing technology is never a sole enterprise, at least never at this level.

But you go on and down play AMD's involvement to convince yourself of it so you can continue on with this bizarre hate of yours and be minded that you have nothing to do with them.

Its fun reading.
