***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

Correct. It is stock cooling. Stock HSF from a QX9650. You don't get a HSF with ES chips :p

And no I'm not changing my sig as it is correct. I never said it was stock cooling from an E8500 although I can see why people might have been mislead. Still, it's hardly top end air cooling is it? ;)

The QX cooler is designed for a cpu with over twice the TDP 130W of an 8500:p

I dont see the issue here in regards to the heatsink.. its not like weescott is claiming the CPU is Prime/Orthos stable where heat would be an issue.. he is doing CPUz screenies and pi runs where heat really is not that much of a factor

The fact still remains he is not using a stock 8500 cooler like he states in his sig.

Its confusing people.

Thats my point.

The 8400 and 8500 come with a cooler like this:

intel%2045nm%20processor%20cooler%2003.jpg

intel%2045nm%20processor%20cooler%2005.jpg

The one on the right.

Easy, you are being a pedant...

Yes, I agree the air cooler used may be different than a HSF that would come boxed with a retail 8500, but for all you know he could have been benching it at -30deg on the top of mount everest so the type of cooler used is kindof irrelivant... all we really wanna know is what the sucker will hit on air, now we have an idea...

These temps could easily be beaten by a Tuniq, or a TR120 & a good fan & lets face it anyone looking to clock one of these on air is gonna be using high end air like these 2...

So stop it & go & bug someone else :p

Its an ES 8500 so until I see Retail results I'm reserving judgement.

Just reading in other threads

weescott has his E8500 @ 4.8Ghz on stock cooling prime stable :)

This is blatant misinformation.:p

Just want to clarify matters thats all.So people have an accurate idea what to expect when they recieve their chips.

...and Todays breaking news :

OCUK Overclocker Clocked out

One of OCUK's resident overclockers, 'Weescott' has been accused of making misleading claims about his cpu. Not only is it an ES cpu but despite claiming he is using 'stock' cooling he failed to mention that the 'stock' cooler was from a different CPU! Weescott claims he is the victim of prejudice and he has done no wrong.

When quizzed by the forum police, Weescott maintained he never meant to mislead the public and denied any involvement in the claim that his cpu ws 4.8ghz Prime stable. He is however, endevouring to pursue legal action in defence of alleged tresspassing offences onto Easyriders threads.

In other news 'MonsterMunch' will attempt the death defying feat of climbing Mt.Everest with a LianLI strapped to his back - All in the name of getting sub-zero temps...Good Luck Munch!

Lighten up guys:rolleyes:

Brilliant:D

What does that have to do with anything

You know fine well the P5B's are up to 450-500FSB so what point are you trying to make here?

That the P5B deluxe is one of the finest mobo's we have seen in the past 2yrs.

Took my 6400 4.3ghz and I hope the 8400 will see you the same results.

Why always look for malice?

Good luck mate.

4.2ghz is a nice 24/7 place to be.:)

Still waiting for Easy to explain himself. He's said himself the P5B is a superb motherboard and is more than capable of 450-500FSB

So other than trying to annoy me I'm not sure where he's going with this.

EDIT: Seen the reply, I don't look for malice but it's easy to tell from your post you're trying to incite it, I know you too well. I still can't understand the need for your post

I'm just wishing you well mate.:)

Well, regardless of easy's motives (tend to agree with you Tom), the Asus site shows beta support for Wolfdale so, providing Tom can crank up the FSB ok I don't see any issues.

.

There won't be any issues.

Its a fine mobo my sentiment was clear enough.:confused:

I got over 520 FSB with mine and a dual core 6400.

I have no reason to think that 500 FSB + will not be achievable with a 8400

What would be the limiting factor on my pc if i buy a 8400? I have a rev 3.3 DS3 965P and Crucial PC2 8500 RAM. I can hit 400fsb on my e2140 but i think the cpu holds any further increase back. Does the DS3 hit a wall at 400?

No

the DS3 rev 3.3 is a 500 FSB mobo.

Shame I was hoping for some significant improvement with being able to OC one of these to 4g+ along side amy 8800gtx taking into account the extra cache. At the moment my 3d06marks are 11806 in vista and 11845 in xp without OC the GFX.

8500 is for high clocks.

Don't get pulled in by 4.2ghz.

Q9450 @ 3.6ghz is IMO the place to be until Nehalem

As this = 4ghz Q6600

3D marks = Quad

No real gain can be had with wolfdale at 4ghz +

Due to the latest games being Gpu limited.
