***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

4000Mhz.jpg

Nice little chips the E8200, can't believe nobody else has went for one.

Seemed to have hit a wall at about 500MHz, just managed 501MHz, so far I've only raised Vmch by 0.1V, I've tested the RAM (4 x 1GB Ballistix 5300) upto 510MHz so that works fine so it's either the NB or the chip, but it sounds like the chip I think.

On water in my Sugo.

Wolfdale processor core is 107sq.mm big and consists of 410 million transistors. These numbers give us to understand that Wolfdale has been changed significantly since the times of its predecessor - 65nm Conroe with only 291 million transistors. You can even see it from the photographs of Wolfdale and Conroe cores: the positioning of their functional units has slightly changed.

judging by the pics, the extra cache is responsible for the increase in transistors

ok i need help my 8400 is clocked at 3.8ghz (422x9) to make it run stable i need to put through 1.275volts using the bios setting but on cpuz and other monitoring equipment it changes between 1.232 and 1.224

Whats going on and is it ok?

just read an article on micromart with the author clocking a 8200 comparing it with a q6600
that he also had, and his summary was the best £115 you could spend on a cpu this year

Thats VDroop, the voltage drops on load, on some boards it can be as much as 0.1v so yours is not too bad.

cpu-z says you have a 8500 but your only on a x9 mulitplier which is a 8400. temps look good how do you get your mobo temp so low. I have a Asus P5E (X38) and it can reach upto 45degree C on it own.

My temps on the E8500 are about that @4g under load.

To prime/orthos stable at 4.38g or 4.5g requires me to but all my voltages on auto but if I set my voltages the same manually prime fails  and at 4.5g temps hit 80c but can run games with lower VC and voltages all round with temps in mid 50's and upto 63c under cpu bench in 3d06.

Running at 575x7=4025 with low VC and temps untill I know what the true temps are.
