** The Official WWDC 2009 Thread **

I thought the idea of the Air was for it to be more portable. So the target audience won't have many devices to plug into the USB ports if they're concerned about portability.

So if I have my USB Broadband Modem and want to use my USB Memory Stick I do what?

Two USB ports isn't too much to ask nor does it take up much space. Oh and would it be too hard to add an ethernet port?

Apple often get accused of form over function and in the case of the Air people are correct.

As it is for now, The Unibody MacBook is a bit more expensive and when you get to consider that price, a lot of people will add the £100/£200 more and go for a MacBook Pro. It's the perfect temporary lineup for them at the moment whilst they adjust.

I thought that too. If I needed to replace my MacBook right now I'd get a MBP. Once production costs come down the WhiteBook is history (or consigned to the Education market)

I think that Snow Leopard will be free or very low cost. Wonder if they'll announce it at WWDC D:

Well they better not be silly enough to charge full whack. I doubt it will be free but it should be cheap!

No way it'll be free. They could make a fortune from all the companies who are on Macs and want to take advantage of their hardware even more.

Shame that both Leopard and Snow Leopard are both developer builds - I always look forward to some nice GUI changes although I'm not sure what I would change within the current GUI. Not saying it is perfect but nothing sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

The blue jelly scrollbars look stupid.
Yes! It looks alright in Graphite mode, but the Aqua UI elements belong with these relics

Getting rid of those aqua scroll-bars (they do look out of place now that OS X has been mostly deaquafised) and making Finder better (more like Pathfinder- i.e. more useful) is all I'd do.

Just read that the desktop version won't get ZFS :(

I dunno, the fainter the better... The keyboard shortcuts are faster and I have virtually no use for Minimize (over Hide) or Zoom (bar the iTunes MiniPlayer) :)

I'm not saying it's perfect. But the target audience isn't someone with an external modem, USB sticks, mice or anything else. They'd expect people to use Wifi and probably have files stored in the cloud.

But lets keep it on topic. :)

I can see Apple also bringing out an eBook reader of some description.. along with creating an eBook portal through iTunes.
... snip...

I could see this .... something like a iPod Touch but around A5 in size. Would be good for reading ebooks (personally I find the Touch a bit small to do this on with my eyesight and I prefer more text per "page") as well as excellent for media playback. Integrate ebooks into iTunes and you have a purchase route too.

But you then also have the point that you have Safari built in so web access over wifi, store files in the "cloud" as well as in onboard storage and you basically got a touch screen netbook device too.

I'd buy one (assuming it wasn't stupidly expensive and you could import files from other sources (e.g. techincal documentation pdfs))

Two fresh new rumours :p:

Apple Insider, citing “sources” reveals that:

Carphone Warehouse, the largest independent European mobile phone retailer and an official iPhone reseller, added four placeholders to their inventory list for new iPhone models earlier today

Whether they officially know something we civilians do not, or they’re just getting assuming the same thing everyone else in the iVerse is — that Apple will announce next generation iPhones during the WWDC 2009 Keynote this Monday — remains unclear, but word is they’ve pushed back their next marketing efforts to July 7…

Next week at Apple's annual World Wide Developers Conference the company will be unveiling its new iPhone, a device that will sport a built-in 3D graphics chip, operate on a new, higher-speed network and hit mid-July, sources tell Kotaku.

Our sources told us that the new iPhone will also tout much more robust Bluetooth support, an upgrade that will allow third-party developers to to release add-on products like a keyboard or game controller.

The new network, which AT&T is currently working on, in theory may also allow AT&T to extend its exclusivity deal with Apple.

Both the new iPhone and the new firmware for the current iPhone will roll-out on July 17, sources tell us.

This rumor comes as word hits that Apple is also starting to hire in-house game developers.

The inclusion of the 3D graphics chip and hiring of developers are, in many ways, Apple's acknowledgment of the growing importance of gaming to the platform. Another thing the developer is considering to help bolster gaming on the iPhone include the possibility of a new store dedicated solely to gaming. The company will also be watching with great interest the roll-out of in-game microtransactions with the latest firmware.

We were unable to confirm any of this beyond our sources, so take this with a grain of salt and keep your fingers crossed for the big announcement hitting this coming Monday. We've contacted Apple for clarification on the matter.
