I take it you just had one on your PSU?
Yup! I've had a PCI-Express capable power supply for over 2 years, what you using?

You can pick a molex-PCI-e adapter pretty cheap though, or just use the one from the sapphire ;)

For anyone having performance issues with these cards and are using Cat 6.12's, change to 6.11's.

I lost about 50% performance with the 6.12's in all games, but 6.11's have fixed this. :)

Hi All,

A question if i may about the HIS x1950 pro AGP from one of the OC guys (and any others with advise!)

I currently have a Athlon XP 3200, HIS 9800pro with 2 optical drivers and a single harddrive. Asus A7nx-x motherboard with a gig of ram (on one stick)

My PSU is an antec trupower 380 - and currently seems to run fine.

Will this system be ok for a HIS x1950 pro AGP upgrade? i.e. is it a good enough PSU - i take it i will not get the best out of the HIS with my CPU, but how much of a hit is it taking, i.e. if i am not gonna get enough of a speed increase is it worth bothering! I mostly play NWN(2),RPG's, some FPS and RTS games.

Oh yes and Happy new year! :)

Many thanks

Welcome to the forums shifters67 :)

I'm running my spec (in sig) on an X-Pro 400W with 20amps on the 12v rail. Yours will no doubt be about the same, and currently your running the same amount of equipment as i am by the looks of it.

The x1950 Pro uses up two power connections unlike your 9800 Pro which currently uses one. This means extra load so that is what is concerning to me, but so far it seems ok. I am not running any extra fans or LED's etc, but i have temporarily disconnected my power to the DVD-RW so that i can overclock my processor and see how it fares out.

Enter your details here : PSU Estimator and see what it comes to. Mine was under 300W just about, so yours will be similar. :)

Shifter67. I've got a Thermaltake Purepower Butterfly 480W running

AMD 3700+
1.5GB Ram
3 Optical HDD
2 DVD Roms
And a Sapphire X1950X Pro AGP. All is running well .

And yes you will see a huge increse over your 9800Pro.

Can someone tell me what connections I will need for the HIS X1950 Pro AGP model so that I can check if my PSU (OCZ PowerStream 520w) has them.

Cheers

Thanks for the link ozzie, ( i know its only a rough calculation ) my current system is about 235W and with a x1950 pro AGP goes upto 265. Thats sufficiently under 380 for the Antec to be worth considering! :p

The antec True 380SP generates 24A on the 12v rail - i guesss thats the important one?

Now i defo want the HIS as the HIS 9800pro is excellent - but the 256MB or 512MB is the question! :D

regards

2 Standard power molex (the ones you plug into your Hard drives/DVD roms.

EDIT: Shifters, if you planning to run at high res anything bigger than 1024 x 768 then the 512mb will suit you more. I'm using a Dell 2007FWP and its going at 1650 x 1050 so my 512mb is really being pushed. If your planning to go widescreen or anything bigger than a 17" then the 512mb will be the most sensible option.

what do u think would be better:

His x1950pro 512mb
Connect3d x1950xt 256mb?

the resoulouition might go up to 1680x1050 on some games.

depends whether you like AA/AF i think, i'm asking the same question really.

from the 256mb vs. 512mb review it would seem that for future proofing you'd be better off buying the 512mb X1950Pro as with newer games the texture sizes are increasing greatly and that is the main factor for getting slow-down or stuttering.

i might be completely wrong though so dont take what ive said as gospel.

Hi

Was really interested in getting the Sapphire x1950 but unsure whether my PSU can take it or not. Tbh i am a noob with these things. My PSU is 300W running

Athlon 64 (S) 3700+ 2.2 GHz
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
300 GB SATA @7200RPM
DVD ROM
16X DVD(+/-)R/RW (+/-)R DL LightScribe drive
GeForce 6200SE
AC97 audio

Will it also fit into a PCI card as i dont think i have one available or if the 6200 in one?!

Thanks for your help

Rich
