Not very good with overclocking cos i have no idea how to calculate memory dividers. As in what to keep ram at 200 while using 250 for cpu.

I did get to 2400 once tho. Think it was stable too.

should have stayed in school ehh?? :p

There are some gOOd questions being asked:

  • 256MB vs 512MB
  • HIS vs Power Colour ??

I'm not sure about the 256MB-512MB debate myself, but hopefully someone can grab some benchmarks showing any performance differences?

As to which manufacturer is best, which heatsink is best etc I feel that whoever is selling the cheapest card gets the nod. I picked up a pair of the Power-Colour 256MB cards, so far so gOOd.

The Power-Colour cards have the ARCTIC Cooling 'Accelero X2 ' prefitted. Still early days and I didn't try any overclocking yet but they are 'very quiet' cOOlers and are just plain HUGE!!!!!

Below is a screen of my GPU idling at 36°C! not sure about loads temps yet.

Would be good to hear some feedback from anyone who is using a HIS card, that appears to have a nice looking HSF, I am just curious to know if its silent or not?. I don't think the HIS will cOOl the GPU any better but the fact it exhausts the air out the case will appeal to some, also its a lot more compact than the Accelero X2 so may appeal to people planning a HTPC etc!

Just o/c mine to 620/1500

Nice card, will keep me going until I can find the wife another job, to pay for a 8800. (I wish)

Wahey I can do screenies!! :D

Far cry, also max'd.

HL2 is the most stunning, It's beautiful!

here is a good question:

would the stock cooler from an x1900xt, x1900xtx, x1950xt, (think they all use the same stock cooler) fit the x1950pro?

if it would fit the x1950pro then im sure it would be a very good cooler since its design is not too shabby and its performance is excellent when the fan is at max speed but yes its noisy. but on the much lower heat output of the x1950pro if the x1900 cooler fits it would be very good.

anyone tried this? or is it deffo a no go.

im guessing that it will fit since the arctic cooling accelero fits both cards, so if you see where im getting at.......

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't, I believe all X1XXX cards use the exact same mounting brackets (or at least the X18/X19 series does). Still, why bother with that stock cooler when you could get a zalman or even better, the Thermalright HR-03 monster which wouldn't destroy your ear drums. :D

I can't really detect any noise made by my card, Why would you want it any quieter?! Seriously It's really quiet.

im after one of these next month but was going to get the saphire one,

how would it do on my
asus a8n sli premium
amd3700+ clocked to 2.53 ?

Although i havent tried, i dont think it would work. the sapphire cooler is specifialy shaped to cool the vrm's at the back of the card (and not very well)
would need some way to cool these if replacing cooler. The sapphire ultimate edition comes with a seperate heatsink for the back of the card. if adding a zalman myself, would need to find such a sink to add too .

Definitely going to pick one of these cards up for my new build in the new year, probably the HIS one. I'm not expecting to play every game at max, but it will more than do me until the dx10 situation dies down and prices ease up.
