Finally worked out what is wrong the card It will only run 3d if the core is dropped back to 580 on the Gpu looks like its a duff core it is 620 by default.
Whats the rest of your spec Dutch? (any other machine u can test the card in?).

do u think the ones with the short white cable are ok?
Well I got three HIS cards here atm, they all work perfectly just that the one with the 'long' white cable 'rattles'. I can't see any other difference between them?. Kinda grasping at straws but my best guess is that one of the 'assemblers' did a sloppy job with the too-long power cable and 'maybe' did something stupid when attaching the fan, I dunno these dudes must slap together hundreds of cards every day (I think they are made by hand and not machine?).

hmmm i really like this card it does a good job blowing warm air out the case.
Well I have to agree with you, the HIS X1950 Pro is ace! its just a pity that there are a few that a)Rattle and b) Crash.

I've got a load of other computer hassles going on at the moment so I am thankful I got a working/silent card . . . Stay tuned!

Another rattler here :( (HIS 512 MB version) and as an added bonus I've also got the cut down bundled pack.

Anyway, I've just checked the white cable and it's of the nice short cut to length variety

I was really bored and did some testing with the manual fan slider in ATT. I was hoping if I gave it a good long run at 100% it might disappear, but alas, no. Annoyingly the rattle seems worse when running 'silently' :p
Oh dear. yes I found the noise is only there when the fan is at low rpms, when I used ATT to increase the rpms to 100% the rattle goes and is replaced by a low roar, but in normal use the card will never ramp itself up in speeds due to running so cool (averages about 60°C full load).

My mates 512MB HIS works well, silent (short-white cable) and came with 'LITE' bundle . . .

There goes the white-cable-theory, hmmm.

Received my Power Color x1950Pro this morning. Installed it using 6.12 drivers and CCC. No problems under load for this card, so I'm happy :)

It actually idles and maxes out at a couple of degrees cooler than the HIS I had (38 and 54 respectively) - which is probably down to the slightly lower clock speed of the PowerColor model. Produces some pretty nice visuals in Need for Speed Carbon, with graphical settings on high. Frame rate stays above 60 throughout.
So there was something 'deffo' up with the Sapphire version you had then? [edit: or was it HIS?]

I'm trying to keep tabs on which cards are doing what? SO far it seems 0% issues with the Power-Colour X1950 Pro (apart from huge HSF), the Vanilla Sapphires are overheating?, some HIS models are non-silent and so far one hasn't worked at stock settings . . .

Wayne how come you get tones of cards to test?
I don't, I ordered the Power-Colour cards for some builds I was working on over xmas (they didnt fit the case) so returned those for a pair of HIS cards (one for me one for mate) and then another mate bought the 512MB HIS so I got to play with that.

Received my HIS 256mb X1950 today, my new build is not all with me yet, still got a few parts to buy, so i can't test it
have a look at the thin white power cable, is it cut to length or is it way too long with the excess tucked behind the fan?

What are the other parts you waiting for?

What's the best way to get your new card up and running?
Just added this info to the opening post for anyone thats needs help

Kinda guiding the 'first-timer' to go with the Catalyst® 'Software Suite' as its fairly simple to set-up, but have included more info for anyone going the 'component' route . . . there are other options too, but will update more when I get time ;)

I think i know why my ATI tray tools isnt working corectly

when u install it, it says about I2C ? do i enable it ? (the compatible mode) or disable it?
I can't really help u much ShiWarrior as I'm a bit nOOby with ATT, I just did the default install and thats it. I haven't used it for much yet, I like the FPS counter it gives, monitoring of temps and such like. Didn't get much out of my X1950 Pro on the overclocking side of things, GPU goes up to about 650MHz ish and then locks up, the memory moves 1 or 2 MHz and then I lose VGA (blank screen?). There are options for 'low-level' overclocking or 'driver-level' but neither seem to work very well. Still gotta try the good old ATI-Tool, didn't use that for 6 months or more but that has worked well for me in the past . . .

Meanwhile back in late-friday night land I just been playing a demo of:

Just a couple of pix to show the 'height' difference between the Power-Colour and HIS X1950 Pro. You can see how I came unstuck using the Power-Colour card, with it installed I had no chance of getting the case lid back on but luckily the HIS fits perfectly!

here is a closer look at the shot above, you can see the white cable I was talking about, the cards I had like this made a 'rattle' sound but on the cards that had a short neat cable there was no noise . . .

did you RMA your HIS back because of the rattle?!
Yes I did, mega fussy am I, I mean as it is the card is the loudest thing in the systems I was building and I just couldn't hack that rattle and the noise made the computer sound like it was just about to break down (impending failure kinda thing). I also RMA'ed a brand new Enermax Liberty because it would let out the occasional 'buzz'.

When you get into silent computing a whole new world of problems appear, but for the moment my HIS is working great, If you are not happy with the card then RMA it.

In your situation I am not sure what I would do, if I had not had the spare HIS card here I would have been unlikely to replace it with another HIS . . .
