Bill Gates?
He was shamed out of the computing world for his anti-competative practices with Windows, forcing other browsers off the platform. There is a video of him in court looking very shifty and acting like he didnt know what the question was. That's when he took a step back from being the face of Windows.

These days he's pushing covid vaccines, buying 100,000+ acres of land across America, and promoting genetically modified foods.

From failed business man to guru.

and now you think of bill gates as a super star? like elon musk seems to be?

failed business man?

super star?

pushing covid vaccines.

none of these things are words anyone educated uses with bill gates.

the shifty court appearance was not when bill gates took a step back. have you done any research on this? the way you speak suggests you have, but the words you pick suggest you haven't and are just saying your narrow opinions as fact

Also lol at the everything app idea. Much genius is this Elon. How'd twitter not think of this idea all those years ago. I guess it takes 220 billion to think, you know what, why don't we copy what wechat did.

Latest bout of concerns over harm to children on TikTok , does amplify the opportunity for a one social media app to rule them all, with the appropriate investment in AI/moderation systems,
(although microsoft has some holding in tiktok to satisfy USA govt, what power/responsibility do they have for platform content.)
Internet harms bill and publicity surrounding recent teens suicide will gather momentum for a cleanup too.

e: sep26 microsoft never bought in oracle now in frame Second, Oracle is expected to monitor TikTok’s powerful algorithms that determine

Do you know about the browser wars on Windows?

Was you even born back then?

BBC saying he changed his mind about buying it, yea, nothing to do with how he was laughed at in court.
Exactly. What was he, 1/2 weeks from the decision he was set to lose, and now again you have the Elon brigage saying this is Elon's plan and he has big dreams etc.

He wanted out for a reason, and he knew he was about to be forced to buy it so made it look like it was his decision after all so that the fan boys can start parroting that for him, and right on que they are

I think you're confusing his recent exiting from the Microsoft board.

By stepping back I mean he stopped being the face of Microsoft after the court case.

The case happened in 1998. He stepped down as head of the Microsoft board in 2000.

Then in 2020 he left the board completely (for having an inappropriate relationship with a female employee).

There is a video of him in court..
There was a deposition but was he ever in court during the antitrust trial?

That's when he took a step back from being the face of Windows.
Few years later although he did remain chairman of the board and very much part of the software dev side of things.

I'm still laughing at you calling him a super star
Probably not to the extant of Michael Jackson but everyone knew who he was during the 80s and 90s, he was the richest man alive during the mid-90s.

The deposition was part of the court case.

If you go to the first link in my links post and scroll about half way down it shows the video.

He/Microsoft really thought they could block other browsers being installed on Windows.

I think you're missing the important part there, which is that they rightly thought they could and they did. Internet explorer was the top dog for a huge amount of time and Microsoft actions are what caused that.

What you should say, is that they thought they could without consequences.

But either way you attributing a court case and then 2 years later bill gates standing back and no longer being ceo (which was the plan for a long time) is incorrect. Just as you saying he stood down from the board because he was sleeping with an employee.

These aren't facts.

You do know why Internet explorer was the top dog? Because Microsoft was restricting the installation of other browsers. That's what the case was about.

The case was in 1998. The appeal lasted until 2001. Gates stepped back from leading the board i.e. being the face of Microsoft, when it looked like the appeal was failing. Gates nearly ended up getting the Microsoft company broken up. Because he still thought it was ok to block rivals browsers being installed on Windows.

So just to get this straight, there were complaints that I'd ignored some point re: whether Elon was a board member or not and a demand that I address it.

I addressed the point, some people were still in denial so I showed more evidence... then when it's clear I was right the complaint changed from me having ignored the point to me having focused too much on that point instead of some other dumb point.

Now the thread seems to be some nonsense about Bill Gates.
