The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

He certainly is one of the most worst humans in recent history, to be given the most powerful role in the world.

That may be a bit too complex of a thought to understand so it might need simplifying to just "orange man bad"

What isn't too complex to understand is your basic grammatical cluelessness :)

The whole post is nonsense anyway, Trump is utterly marvellous ;)

Who cares about Truth social though, if he's running for President in 2024 he'll want to be on Twitter, so you may as well have your melt down about that now

Well Trump cares as shown by him trying to force one of the founders to give his shares to Melania and then throwing him off the board when he refused.

I think some people in Britain genuinely feel Trump is one of the worst humans to ever live, it's so strange

No just the worst human being to hold that job since Andrew Johnson.

I'm not sure how he's going to walk this tightrope. Advertisers left Twitter because it was a toxic hellhole, to keep them happy they started heavier moderation and kicked off some of its most toxic users. He clearly needs to keep the advertising money rolling in, he's lost a lot of money on this deal but even he isn't writing off billions by allowing Twitter to become a platform that the biggest advertisers don't want to spend their money on. Be interesting to see how he's going to do it, Trump will be back and tbh that might not be a bad thing, people forget just how unhinged he is and his daily rants will remind them. Letting the real loons back on though is going to cause him problems.

I said this same thing when Elon first put his offer in but will say it again

The issue now is that twitter will have a face to it, and that is Elon, who is also the face of the do good Tesla.

Elon allowing trump back is fine, but in many peoples minds he becomes personally responsible for all that comes with having the likes of trump back.

But not just that, there was always a limit that twitter users knew could get them banned. Now you'll have the likes of Katie Hopkins rejoicing that the limit is even higher, so what she said before and the limitations are gone, she can go full crazy all she wants.

Now twitter will have a hard time deciding what to do with the bad content you're likely to see a lot more of. Do they moderate it, after saying essentially it's a free for all platform, or do that let it go, pushing away advertisers as twitter will be in the news now more than ever, whenever the crap trump says is spreading.

For instance, let's say trump says something super simple like "reject the covid vaccine, it's implanted with 5g chips and mind control devices. I know this as I've seen the confidential evidence due to my privileges as ex president"

Something any old lunatic might say, but trump was president of USA. Many innocent people will be right to think "surely there is a filter and a president can't just lie like that, so there must be truth in it" and now it causes a major problem, along with millions spreading this lie.

It gets in the news, millions dying as they don't want a covid vaccine, something pushed by trump on twitter, now he has got his access back since Elon Musk took over.

Which advertising company wants to be associated with that?

You'll have users with an iq in triple digits deciding twitter is no longer a place for them, and right wing trump fans thinking twitter/Elon is the second coming, Mr jesus, here to save us from left wing twitter stopping free speech.

But then those right wing trump fans will inevitabley get banned as they will think they can say what they want. They will find out twitter isn't the site they thought it'd be and who's to blame, Elon.

So you have users from left, right and centre, leaving twitter for better platforms.

Then you have Tesla too. Tesla = Elon who now = twitter and the content on that site which he's allowing.

I think it was a super foolish move by Elon.

Its the users that advertisers aim their expensive products at that will leave if it turns into a hellhole, the advertisers will follow them. He can't win this, the loons on the right will attack him if he doesn't let the worst of them say whatever they want within the law and the loons on the far left will be the same and attack him for allowing such content on Twitter. I can see him getting sick of dealing with it, I'm sure he regrets the day he ever bought a Twitter share.

That's a very measured post from Musk. It seriously undermines the Republicans 'Hooray, he'll make it open slather like Gab!' narrative.

You just have to look at who he has tried to not be the bad guys recently. Trump, Putin, China and Kanye. Its a bit like when Dyson went all brexity.

Exactly. But the middle too won't like it. It's not just the extremes that won't want to see the other extreme. Someone with an iq won't want to see covid misinformation spread during the height of a pandemic with no current vaccine.

Someone with an iq won't want to see an insurrection of their country, lead by trump and his goons.

Imagine another jan6th and Elon is there like, "well I unbanned trump now I can't exsclty ban him for the same thing that got him banned last time"

Well I'm glad Musk knows what is right for the future of mankind....

I guess we all must listen to him, and none of what he does is due to his narcissistic personality disorder or immense greed.

LOL Gadde is out too of course:

She wasn't looking forward to Musk taking over anyway, though she's responsible for some of the bad censorship decisions taken so obvs needs to go.
Twitter’s “top censorship advocate” Gadde allegedly cried during a meeting to discuss Musk’s acquisition

To be fair, Elon has come up with a good idea, which is that serving relevant ads is better than serving non relevant ads.
It's a good idea, but very hard to do, which is the reason it's not the default

Especially if you end up with a service that none of the reputable/big advertisers with the money to actually do targeted adverts want to touch with someone else's 10 foot barge pole.

Very few places can/do properly targeted adverts because it's hard to do, expensive and requires a level of information that you can't easily get, especially if for example you have to abide by privacy laws. As Facebook are finding out targeted advertising only works if you have the permission of the people whose platform you are running your advert service on (one of the few things I can wholeheartedly praise apple for is their recent changes to how the IOS deals with that), the permission of the person you're targeting the adverts at and a legal framework that doesn't object to you using what are/were often highly invasive methods to find out what you might be interested in.
Even then it doesn't take too much to throw off these highly targeted adverts it amuses and annoys the hell out of me when I see adverts for something i've no interest in keep popping up for months because I bought my niece a specific toy, or because I was looking at something that I only buy once a decade... (or I keep getting "targeted adverts" for retailers that only ship to the US because I may have looked at something they along with UK retailers sell).

I mean Twitter have had the incentive to do this since day one, and somehow they've missed the idea but Musk is the first person that has thought about it?
