The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

The thing is in 2010 people got away with saying absolute nonsense. Nowadays people are judged more critically, as let's be honest, we are a lot less anonymous on the internet than we were - so it is harder to look past peoples controversial views without thinking 'wtf - this is a real human and those are his actual views'.

My 2 cents anyway.

Is that why nobody can pinpoint who the mob is and how they don't know who they are? The last I looked the real names were getting drilled for having a point of view. The people who has no names can do more or less whatever they want without an consequences. If they do get banned they sign up with a new account or change IP or using VPN.

So what position today are the anti-Musk people taking?

When they first heard about Musk wanting to take over Twitter they didn't like it.

Then they heard Twitter was enforcing its deal with Musk, so suddenly they liked it that Twitter was making him buy it.

So now Musk owns Twitter... what is todays view?

Majority just dont really care all that much.

I bet CNN are desperate for Trump to get back on Twitter so they can squeeze some ad revenue out of reporting every letter he types on there, it's red panty night for the execs if he does

Probably not, a quick google suggests their ratings for 2021 were 19% higher than 2019 (When Trump was still President and still on Twitter)

They were massively down from 2020, but they always increase during an election year.

Ratings are down from their Trump-era heights across cable news, but declines at CNN are particularly pronounced.

Trump is great for CNN, the execs there are desperate for him to be back

That's paywalled (Though $1 billion profits for a news network sounds pretty healthy to me)

This is what I found:

Compared to the most-recent “off-election year” (2019), CNN posted growth across the board, up +11% in total prime time viewers and +5% among adults 25-54 in prime time; +19% in total viewers across the 24-hour day and +14% among adults 25-54 across the 24-hour day.

^^^ this is kinda superficially plausible, he's perhaps not going to be too dramatic with the changed but I reckon behind the scenes he's likely to want to start generating revenue too. Then perhaps hand it over to a Parag type to administer.

LOL :D

There may have been some important world event happening in 2020 and 2021, might be worth looking at figures for other news providers too.

Trump is great for all media, not just CNN. Someone in the highest position of power constantly acting like a colossal halfwit and saying ludicrous things is always going to equal great ratings.

CNN has shifted a bit to the right now anyway, not that it was ever some Uber lefty channel (by British standards)

Yeah for some strange reason Biden falling asleep mid-interview doesn't make the news, you have to go to Tik-tok to find it https://www.tiktok.com/@bagayoko23/...is_from_webapp=v1&item_id=7157308024938417451

Maybe they could report the fact that a senile old man is in charge and is likely suffering from severe cognitive decline, it would possibly get some views

Absolutely I'm sceptical about this.

Elon Musk was told he could likely solve World famine for a year with $6.6 billion.

I don't know how accurate that was but lets say they were way off and it would take double that ($13.2 billion)

He's just spent almost 4x times that amount of money on a social media platform, to supposedly protect free speech? Hmmmm

Don't worry, Bill Gates has got this, he spent billions on buying up farmland so he can feed these people!!!!!!!

The independent isn't too happy:

Thats a classic take on Twitter.

"When it was people I liked who agreed with me it was a utopia and then people who didn't think the same as me turned up and it was a cesspit".

The only time Twitter isn't a cesspit is when people are just having fun on it and not taking things seriously. Something which doesn't happen enough anymore.

Mad how they don't cover stuff like that isn't it

But yes they should be more critical of him, just like Fox etc should be more critical of Trump... but it's america, their news is split down partisan lines.
